The only other way to go, outside of continuing to make changes, is to use the actual lineups and make changes accordingly (ie, turn roster limit off, injuries off, etc.) so that the starters will take their rightful places and the role players will return to their spots. The only thing with this is that you may also have to change the retirements to actual and missed seasons to yes. I don't know if you would want to that although the system would change those players to role players.

I ended up reinstalling the game, ran a test from '60 to '85 with the settings Spritze noted in his two most recent posts in this thread (except I had real txns on), and found that both team and pitcher wins are in the ballpark now (a few too many pitchers w 25+ wins, but not so many to where I can't live with it). Strange that a reinstall would have that effect, but that's good news I guess.
Still finding Garvey play a season or two as starting SS (and several seasons where he plays a fair amount of backup SS), and Yaz spending a year at 3B, but overall, things seem to look a little better, position-wise. Also found Hal McRae as Cincy's starting secondbaseman, but he did play some infield early in his career, so that's not so shocking. |

Yaz played 35 games at 3B in his career, 2 in 1964 and 33 in 1973. Due to injuries and other things, the manager experimented with Yaz at 3B in 1973.

re: Yaz - 1973
click on the Real Stats tab --> click on Real Fielding --> 3B - G/31, GS/33 (This doesn't make sense, does it?) Now click on the Neutralized Fielding tab --> 3B - G/62, GS/66 For this reason, OOTP considers Sir Carl a viable option at 3B, particularly when using neutr. stats. Or so I do believe. |

Since GS is not used by the game for nothing, when creating the neutered stats I don't bother to error check it. There is a lot of Lahman stuff that makes no nevermind so the items ain't tested/error checked nor nuthin. We just make what matters matter. The rest goes out the window with the baby and the bathwater.

You would be shocked at the number of errors at bbref. I think they don't pay much attention to the details. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. If you let them know of errors they don't say "Thanks" nor do they fix anything. What a bunch of maroons!

Out of the three (baseball-reference, baseball-almanac, retrosheet.com), retrosheet.com is the most accurate. BTW, baseball-almanac.com also had 31 games for Yaz at 3B in 1973.
