Austin Express P420
The regular season concluded with the Express finishing in first place in the NC East with a 126-36 Record, and 36 games ahead of the second place Secret Laboratory Experiments, with another huge year from Vlady Jr. with the bat, finishing .330/28/130. The big shocker was Willie Mays slipping from .285/39/116 in 2041 to a .214/12/61 line. Yes, I kept running him out there, thinking that the slump would end, but it was a year long struggle. In fact this year my position players suffered more slumps than any in recent memory. My rotation was the strength of the team, as it should be with the "Dream Team" Big three of Cy Young, Walter Johnson and Ed Walsh, all of whom managed to finish 20-4, but ironically not one of them made the All-Star Team. The real drama during the season was watching the NC Central race between the Saigon Tritons and the Bellevue Black Knights. Bellevue pulled away the last month to finish with 120 wins, and Saigon finished with 110. Saigon then got knocked out of the WC game, and I'm looking at a date with the L.A. Kings. On the other side of the bracket there was a game 163 to settle a AC Central division race between the Parish Levees, and the 5DK Dragons, in which Parish prevailed. Tombstone Glory Silver .325 My Cubs themed team cruised to a 104-58 record, which was good enough to tie the Savannah Bananas for the best record in the league (Savannah was in the AC though) and we were the only 100 game winners in the league. It was a slow start to the season, in fact midday Tuesday we were 7 games back of the Toronto Sweater, before we got rolling, and they cooled off, and we finished 16 games up. The big 2 offensive stars were Sammy Sosa, who hit .296/33/115, and Ron Santo who hit .288/24/93, and who legged out an amazing 10 triples. The bats were on and off, struggled at times with K's and contact, but it was enough, thankfully the rotation came up big. Mark Prior led the league with 21 wins and a 2.44 ERA, and Jake Arrietta went 19-3 with a 2.90 ERA. There were some close races, the Odessa Cougars (90 wins), the Manhattan Muraders (sic) 89 wins, and the Toronto Sweaters (89) wins had a race that came down the final couple of games to determine the two wild card teams. Dallas Renegades .438 -The Wife's Team I figure with her team making it to PL, and it was the most exciting story this year, it is worthy of updates. She had an extremely tough draw in terms of division. The eventual winner, The Chernobyl Meltdown (6 time PL Champion) finished on a 10-0 streak, and 4 head to head wins against the Cincinnati Reds, to claim the division by a mere 2 games, and a 121-41 record. The Reds in a max defense park, who finish back of the pack in most hitting categories, but blew everyone away in the pitching categories, closed on a 5 game losing streak, and a 119-43 record. The Renegades finished a distant 3rd with a 104-58 record. Which was the 4th best record in the league. In her first go in Perfect, her team built around the "Let's Hit" theory, had a few offensive stars, but she was led by (99) Joe DiMaggio who hit .322/14/95 with 16 triples, and a 5.9 WAR. Ted Williams put up a .303/33/110 and a 5.6 WAR. Not far behind were Mickey Mantle, and George Sisler. Her ace, Tom Seaver started rough, but finished with a 21-5 record, but a 3.87 ERA, and Steve Carlton finished with a 17-6 record and a 3.12 ERA for her, and while there was no dominant starter, just solid all the way thru. She made a late season add of Carl Hubbell, who went 4-3 with a 2.10 ERA in 10 starts, and figures to be a key figure in her future seasons. Other than her division, there were not a ton of close battles, and the bad news was that she dropped her Wild Card 1-0 in 14 innings to the Cincinnati Reds in an absolute thriller. I think had the game been in her park, it may have gone differently, but was a great experience for her first season in PL. Last edited by Nero; 09-08-2019 at 12:36 PM. |

Good luck in the playoffs. I'm down 2-0 in the DS as a #1 seed in my first season in PT. The good news is that we grew a lot as a team this season and should be able to tear again next season if we don't manage to get promoted. The bad news is that life sucks and then you die.

Elsewhere in P437, the New York Flyers won game 1 versus Singapore, but unfortunately, Singapore took the next 3. Polonia swept Winterfell, setting up what should be an intriguing matchup with the Towers of the Dub. And, as predicted, the Carolina Dirtbags and San Antonio Cotton Rats are currently tied 2-2, with the road team winning every game so far. Can whoever survives take down Singapore? Will Towers of the Dub make it to the Perfect League Series, or will Polonia put itself into position to win Perfect championship #2? The only predictable thing about Perfect Team playoffs is their unpredictability!

OMG!
I lost in the WC game 3-2 in 15 innings!!! Ugh. Not bad for first season in Iron League .203 though. Really looking forward to my second season starting.

As called, the Accountants drop the LDS in four to the St. Louis Smackers.
As usual. Ruin and demise is all I get.

That's unfortunate....I got knocked out in the first round 3-1 too. My 4 starters went in hot, and every single one got knocked out before the 5th inning....next year!

Fittingly, it took 12 innings, but the San Antonio Cotton Rats finally emerged the victor, taking down the Carolina Dirtbags 6-4 in the game and 3-2 in the series. The visitors won every game!

Maybe the benefit is more time today to look at what I'll look at changing for next season. It's a little amusing, the team I have the least faith in this postseason, is my team that's left standing.... |

The Frogs may have just suffered their toughest playoff defeat yet.
After taking a 2-0 lead on the Mordor Mayhem, the team just refused to score any more runs. Mordor swept the final 3 games 2-0, 3-0, 3-0 with their 97 Cy Young even tossing in an 80-pitch Maddux for flavor. I'm not sure my Frogs have ever been blanked in 3 straight games before, let alone when on the cusp of advancing. I knew it was gonna be a close series and neither team scored more than 3 runs in any of the 5 games (my Frogs took games 1 and 2 as 3-2, 3-2). Good luck to those still simming!

The Raccoons swept the division series and are up 2-0 in the LCS so that makes 21 straight wins for the Raccoons which ties our all-time record (of course, the game doesn't count the post-season so we only got the 4k PP achievement). Now if we can just stay hot for the duration of the playoffs...

The Glou made it close but that was it, going down 5-4 in the wildcard game. Our Trout hit a 3-run homer in a 1-4 night. Their Trout went 4-4 with 3 doubles and 2 ribbies.
We scored 800 runs during the regular season, our most in Perfect, and conceded 773, our least. So all in all, a decent campaign.

My thoughts exactly! But, assuming we make it to the WS, we're almost certainly going to face the Jonestown Athletics which will make us feel like we're back in that whale league again. On paper, they appear to be stronger, especially offensively. We didn't meet in the regular season which to me at least, makes the WS a bit cooler. That's assuming we both make it, of course!
