Question Working the count early

IRL, the lead off hitter and sometimes the #2 guy are expected to take a lot of pitches so the ten can see what kind of stuff the opposing pitcher has that day. Also, some teams emphasize taking pitches to tire out the starters and get to the bullpen earlier. Is this worthwhile in OOTP or just too much micromanagement?

I tend to only do this when I'm looking to steal or hit-and-run. Unfortunately, I don't think the AI is smart enough to adjust when the user is deliberately taking 3 pitches every at-bat. It tends to make the experience a bit gamey to me.

Instead, I personally just try to address this with the players I choose to bat first and second (i.e. use players with good eye ratings that draw more walks).

Just my two cents though. If you want to go full '98 Yankees on the game - have at it!

Yeah, same as Tribe, it's a tactic I use occasionally and it does work, but the AI doesn't seem to take advantage of it much, and is bad at recognising when you're doing it. So it feels a bit like a cheap exploit to me most of the time.

My experience as well. I limit it to when I want to steal or hit & run.

for the most part, i just take the first pitch out of principle. context may heavily influence choice, ofc.

i don't use it to run through the opposing team's relievers by day 2 of a seies. i think they hindered this strategy in '16, not sure if they further weakened it. (the excessive take-pitch strategy, no using it in normal ways.)
