Ignoring owner goals

Hi, I got the game last night and played through one season with the yankees.
Now my owner wants me to extend A-rod's contract. I have no intention in doing so.

Is this wise? or should I bow to my owners wishes

The owner's personality has a lot to do with it. If he is tolerant, you are probably safe. If he is demanding, then you might want to tread carefully.

If you win, goal failures will probably be overlooked... for a while.

you can turn off owners goals in the Game Settings, if they really get annoying.

You should be fine if you hit your other goals. I find its ok to miss one if you make it up in other areas. If you have a league placement goal and a postion upgrade goal as well, you should try and hit those.

Not extending a player is an easy one to ignore. Once he's gone, he's gone, and the owner isn't likely to keep screaming at you to re-acquire him.

Other goals such as slashing payroll, increasing attendance, and dumping a distraction are more likely to keep re-appearing, so it might be best to get those done.

In my modern game I had that exact goal, but A-Rod refused to stay as long as I kept Girardi. Sorry A-Rod, but a breathtakingly skilled field manager is far more valuable to me than an over the hill player who probably will be physically deteriorating in the next few years at a rapid pace. Have fun in the free agent list. Plus in reality A-Rod is retiring anyway so who cares.
