Disappointment sets in once again, as we lost the World Series to the Phillies 4 games to 2. I have to hand it to my team, we really tried to get creative in ways to lose games this series. With a 3-3 tie heading into the 8th we decided that we would commit 4 errors and give up 4 runs to send the Phillies to a 7-3 victory.

The Phillies captured their second straight World Series, which was the fifth straight by a National League team. If someone could tell me the setting to uncheck which makes the NL always win the World Series that would be appreciated!

And after the season I did sign Al Milnar to 200 extensions while he is under contract with the Tigers.

I'm starting to feel like the Buffalo Bills now. I don't want to say I've stopped caring, but so many crazy things happened in the World Series that it is hard to care. There probably wasn't much I could have done differently, because I feel that I've build a team capable of winning. That's the breaks I guess. Next up year 8. If my luck continues this may just be the longest dynasty report ever written...

First, there won't be major changes to my team because I do feel pretty good about the team. Second, I really should pay closer attention to my team's personnel, but I was truly in short term mode. We lost both our head scout and pitching coach because their contracts expired.

The first order of business was bringing aboard James Burke as our new scouting director. Based on ratings he is my best scout yet, so it will be interesting to see what he has to say about some of the members of my organization.

I'm still searching for a new pitching coach, as I've been turned down not once, not twice, but three times. I'll find someone before the beginning of the year.

With a 94-60 record, another Manager of the Year award, and a core in tact I like this team. I'll listen to any offers I receive in the offseason, but I'm not planning on looking for outside help, and I expect we won't get much help in the draft picking last. Maybe my new scout can find a gem.

I strictly relied on my scout for our picks this draft and here is who we got:
3B - Eddie Yost
RF - Tony Tarasco
RF - Polly Wolfe
RF - Ed Cermak
SS - Kevin Baez

Looks like my scout isn't sold on my current right field choices. I was going to overrule him on the third straight right fielder, but I'll let him have his day. I don't expect much our of the fourth pick anyway.

Despite receiving a couple of trade proposals, including one of the strangest I have ever seen (a 39 year old minor league reliever for 4 starters, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask), I made no moves this offseason, except signing our draft picks and signing a pitching coach - finally. Welcome Ubaldo Meoni!

Spring Training wasn't pretty - we finished dead last with a 9-15 record. We still get no respect from the pre-season predictors - fourth place, 14 games behind the Highlanders.

But I'm not too worried about our poor spring, or the predictions.

In fact our 12-5 start has me feeling pretty good about things. Bret Saberhagen (5-0, 0.44 ERA) and The Only Nolan (2-2, 0.24 ERA) both are pitching well. One ER in 38 innings for Nolan is pretty impressive.

After an 18-11 month, we now hold a 3 1/2 game lead over the Highlanders. Our pitching, defense, and offense all seem to be doing well, and I don't have too many complaints right now.

Even Dave Winfield (.300 AVG) is playing well. Taking a look at my leaders on WAR:
Rick Peters - 2.0
Carlos Beltran - 1.2
Rusty Staub - 1.2
Javier Valentin - 1.0

And on the mound:
The Only Nolan - 3.2
Bret Saberhagen - 2.9
Wes Farrell - 2.3

While we had an 18-7 month, and now hold a 9 1/2 game lead over the second place White Sox, June brought with it it's share of injuries. Bret Saberhagen, Carlos Beltan, and Rusty Staub all suffered injuries that caused them to miss at least 3 weeks. Sound familiar? I believe they all missed time last year with injuries as well.

We've been able to make do so far, and Saberhagen will be back in early July.

July was a month that I'd like to forget about, as it was our first losing month of the season going 12-15. We still do have a 7 1/2 game lead over the second place White Sox, with the Highlanders (8 GB) and Cleveland (8 1/2 GB) on their heels.

The injuries continued to mount, but everyone should now be healthy within the next few days, but our starters missed a lot of time in July.

The trading deadline was silent, and hopefully our team is good enough to hold on.

In what looked like a successful season, the Browns finished with our second straight losing month with a 10-16 record. Our lead was as small as 1/2 game before ending the month on a 5 game win streak.

We've really struggled defensively, I think in part due to a constant stream of injuries to key members of the defense. I've tried to walk a fine line between offense and defense, especially with our subs. As a result we have scored more runs than any other team, but our defense is now 4th.

I took advantage of roster expansion to provide some rest and reinforcements. Hopefully that will be enough to get us through September with a winning record and be in good position to go back to the World Series.

I have to admit that I have a strong feeling of relief after finishing this season. Building up a big lead and then holding on is a nerve wracking way of doing things. We finished with a 14-13 record in September, and 2-1 record in October.

With an 86-68 record we will now take on the Boston Doves in the World Series, who finished the season on an 8 game winning streak, overtaking the Cubs, who may just have worse luck than the Browns.

Looking over the Doves, they certainly were a lucky team. Their pythagorean record was 81-73 and finished 10 games above that. Going by that record they should have been third place in the NL. We should have been a tad better at 88-66. I don't want to underestimate my opponent, but that gives me encouragement.

The Doves were tied for 4th in runs scored, 4th in runs allowed, and 2nd in defensive efficiency. Socks Seybold (23-16, 2.72), Roger Wolff (23-10, 2.36), and Woodie Fryman (15-18, 2.85 ERA) make up their rotation. Bill Long (19-12, 1.79 ERA) was the fourth starter and may make an appearance. Fryman should be familiar from his time with the Pirates.

To save some time here is the news story:

The Boston faithful were cheering in the streets and the St. Louis fans were crying in their beer -- The Doves won the Round 1. They clinched it by knocking off the Browns 2-1 to take their 1st Major League Baseball crown. Boston took the series 4-1.

"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.

"We just didn't play well enough to win," the Browns manager said. "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."

On the way to the Round 1 title Boston compiled a 91-63 won-loss record and finished first in the NL.

Crying in my beer is a good way to put it. We've now lost our 4th World Series in St. Louis with the Browns, and I'm beginning to question whether I still have what it takes to lead all 30 teams to a World Series, since I can't get there with the first team. I don't think I've ever struggled this much trying to win a World Series with a team.

I had to look back at my old history from my first attempt, and it took 11 years with the Tigers, and I won on my 3rd trip to the World Series. The Robins won on their 4th try in 8 years, and the Giants took 3 tries in 5 years. I thought I remembered the Giants taking longer.

But I digress. Somewhere in Game 1 when the rain started falling in the third and Bret Saberhagen left the game I got the feeling that this wasn't our year. When Boston came back to score 3 runs in the seventh and eighth inning I chalked this series up as a loss. Saberhagen was the lone bright spot in the series, winning game 3. A 9-3 blowout in game 4, and a 2-1 loss in game 5 did us in. My luck is bound to change sooner or later…

Thanks! Unfortunately my World Series luck continued. I was so frustrated I couldn't even bring myself to write up the game recaps. Sometimes I love this game, but other times (like now) it drives me completely nuts. This definitely isn't how I wanted to start this dynasty, but I'm in it for the long haul, and I figure my luck has got to change eventually....I hope.

With the first pick in the amateur draft we selected 1B Wally Joyner. Shortstop Greg Gagne was our second pick. Centerfielder Harry Craft, catcher George Baker, and catcher Dave Skaggs rounded out the draft.

I made the tough decision to trade Wes Farrell to the Brooklyn Superbas. He's been with the Browns since I've got here, and I've watched him grow from a pitcher that went 11-18 with a 3.52 ERA to a 20 game winner with a sub 2 ERA. We packaged Farrell with 21 year old Tony Tarasco, who I saw good flashes of potential, along with Dave Winfield. We got back 24 year old starter Jack McDowell, who I hope can improve in St. Louis. His past two years he posted records of 17-20, 2.39 ERA and 17-23, 2.84 ERA.

We also made a second painful deal with the Cardinals sending 3B Bernie Friberg, C/1B Javier Valentin, and SP Vic Keen and getting back shortstop Scott Fletcher. I'm trying to have faith in my scout on this deal, who really likes Fletcher. It certainly didn't make my fans happy though.

I'd say that this is going to be the year, I can feel it, but who knows. I do like my changes though, and if you keep getting to the World Series you've got to win eventually.

The Browns started the season with 8 straight wins which had me feeling really good, then I received word that our owner passed away. Of course we are 2-6 since the news.

I've been pleased with the play of Jack McDowell, who may need to get moved higher in the rotation. Wally Joyner has also played well since being drafted, and new shortstop Scott Fletcher is playing great as well.

It's early and I don't want to make too much of a handful of starts, but I am a little concerned with The Only Nolan. I noticed his ratings decrease in the offseason, which was one of the reasons I was interested in bringing aboard a younger pitcher. I think he'll straighten things out a bit, but it bears watching.

Don't jinx yourself, my Phillies started off 14-4 in 1922. Now in the middle of the season and we are 6 GB and barely hanging above .500.

So far we are +8 for the year.

And should be in last place.

Hopefully I didn't jinx myself. But at this point I can't have much worse luck!

A 21-8 month in May has us in good shape. Rick Peters hopefully got his required injury out of the way early, and The Only Nolan seems to have turned things around.

I'm thinking that if Saberhagen and McDowell continue to pitch this well I'm going with a two man rotation in the World Series, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.

Shortstop Greg Gagne was our second pick. Centerfielder Harry Craft, catcher George Baker, and catcher Dave Skaggs rounded out the draft. I made the tough decision to trade Wes Farrell to the Brooklyn Superbas. He's been with the Browns since I've got here, and I've watched him grow from a pitcher that went 11-18 with a 3.52 ERA to a 20 game winner with a sub 2 ERA. We packaged Farrell with 21 year old Tony Tarasco, who I saw good flashes of potential, along with Dave Winfield. We got back 24 year old starter Jack McDowell, who I hope can improve in St. Louis. His past two years he posted records of 17-20, 2.39 ERA and 17-23, 2.84 ERA. We also made a second painful deal with the Cardinals sending 3B Bernie Friberg, C/1B Javier Valentin, and SP Vic Keen and getting back shortstop Scott Fletcher. I'm trying to have faith in my scout on this deal, who really likes Fletcher. It certainly didn't make my fans happy though.

NYY #23 Hall Of Famer Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Philadelphia Posts: 13,112 Blog Entries: 17	5/1/1910 - 8 straight to start season The Browns started the season with 8 straight wins which had me feeling really good, then I received word that our owner passed away. Of course we are 2-6 since the news. I've been pleased with the play of Jack McDowell, who may need to get moved higher in the rotation. Wally Joyner has also played well since being drafted, and new shortstop Scott Fletcher is playing great as well. It's early and I don't want to make too much of a handful of starts, but I am a little concerned with The Only Nolan. I noticed his ratings decrease in the offseason, which was one of the reasons I was interested in bringing aboard a younger pitcher. I think he'll straighten things out a bit, but it bears watching. Now in the middle of the season and we are 6 GB and barely hanging above .500. So far we are +8 for the year. Rick Peters hopefully got his required injury out of the way early, and The Only Nolan seems to have turned things around. I'm thinking that if Saberhagen and McDowell continue to pitch this well I'm going with a two man rotation in the World Series, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. Attached Images
