1871 Start- Is this normal

I decided to start a league in 1871 to give it a shot. I played my first Spring Training game and the errors and runs are outrageous. Is this to be expected. I didn't change any settings, just did the draft and started playing.

Spring training mean almost nothing but to get the rust off players. I do not play out my sprint training games. There were loads of errors back the. Below are some shots of my league that I started in 1871 under version 11 and imported to 12.

Total errors of retired players

Gloves weren't common until the 1880's when pitchers were allowed to start throwing overhand.

I had a regular season game in 1871 with a combined 56 errors..I think the record is 72 in RL. something like that.

About what is expected. Your fielding ratings on guys are terrible. Starting in 1871 with fictional players just doesn't recreate this. The PCM for fielding are way off and you get too good of fielders for the era. Until the 1890's or the early deadball era expect lots of error with no gloves. Biddy McPhee was the last to play without a glove until 1896 when he wore one due to a spring training injury. He set a fielding record that year that would last until 1925 when gloves were changed and teams really started taking care of the fields.
