The History of OOTP Developments' Games
Just saw that this German guy has this baseball game he just made and he's shopping it around. What do Europeans know about baseball?
Here are a couple of screenshots of the new V2 and the feature list.... Not sure how this will play out... Features: * Statistical accuracy. * Statistical depth. It's all here : Common stats like ERA, batting AVG. and uncommon ones like Components ERA, Runs created / 27 outs, runners thrown out as catcher .... * Injuries. * Rare plays that happen as often as in real life. You'd be lucky if you see an unassisted triple play by the second baseman, but you could ... * Play-by-play that tells you what happens on the field in style. * Complete roster management. Set up your pitching staff, lineups, depth charts and so on. Demote players, recall them, put injured players on the DL, sign free agents .... * Complete team reports. * Real life players with real life stats. * Comprehensive player ratings. Players are rated in several aspects of batting, pitching, fielding and baserunning. * Customizable leagues. * Player editor, team, season and league import/export ability, delete and create players .... * Very easy to use graphical interface. Completely mouse driven. * Big league leaders board. * And much more ... * Two play modes: Replay mode and career mode. * Two season disks included: 1998 Replay and Fictional players for career mode. * Great career mode : Players age, their talents fade away, youngsters are generated, they develop into big leaguers, players retire, they suffer career ending injuries. Just like real life. After the end of each season young players are generated and then drafted. So if you want to guide your team from last to first, go ahead. See your youngsters develop and perhaps their induction to the hall of fame after a great career ... Will your first round pick be the first player in 60 years to hit .400 ? * Weekly and monthly stats and career stats for every player. * Awards. Player of the week/month and the big ones at the end of the season. * Built in playoffs. Capture the world championship ! * Import players from the past using Sean Lahman's Baseball Database. * Draft module included. If you like to draft your own team, simply create a league and draft your team. The computer will draft for the others. * Great play-by-play : You won't see boring phrases on nice plays. You'll feel what's happening on the field. The PbP will let you know ... * And much more ... And here the additional features of the upcoming version 2 : * Two leagues : A 1999 replay league and a 2000 career league with real players and stats. * Fullscreen Windows application, featuring a beautiful interface. * A financial system: Sign free agents, negotiate contract extensions, try to lead a cellar-dwelling, small market team to the top ! * Full minor league system. Guide your prospects through the system with care. * MORE stats, for example game-by-game stats, more splits (home, away, close/late and more) and more streaks and personal records. * A record book with team and league records. * Schedule generator for custom leagues. * FULL online league support. Play your home series at home and send the results to the commish ! * More reports. * HTML export for all reports. * Full Master HTML export, create a whole website with one mouse-click !!! * Computer generated scouting reports on all players. * Improved play-by-play. * More than a hundred injuries. * Expanded league and team history. You have access to all retired players, for example. * Expanded leader board, with HTML export function. * Import seasons from the past using the Sean Lahman Database. * A REVOLUTION : Import a past season, play it in career mode and all players that entered the league in the next years can be imported into the rookie draft !! So it will be possible to replay the entire history of baseball ! * More editing options, for example adjust the criterias for the OOTP Hall Of Fame * And much more, for example better AI, pitcher warmup rule, day-to-day status for injured players, control of the baserunner while playing a game.

OOTP2! That was the first version I played!
Man, that was so buggy that I ended up getting frustrated and going back to Mogul. But I stuck with it based on potential. Thankfully, it surpassed even the five-star potential I saw in it.

I must admit, "Components ERA" is a pretty uncommonly seen stat.

If we knew what we would have now how picky would we have been then?
Kinda fun to rediscover the new things we liked about each version. |

What would a baseball sim be without a basketball game mode?

So unrealistic. Hope he adds the ability to tweak how closely a player performs to real life. Or better yet, he better develop as he would in real life too!

OOTP 2 was the first version I played as well.
I found it for free on Home of the Underdogs and fell in love with it, playing it for hours. Then, out of curiosity I went online and searched for more information on this game. Not only was there a new version out there, there were two and OOTP 5 was about to be released. Needless to say, I was quick to buy OOTP 5, as I was already enthralled by a game that was three iterations old. |
