Lightbulb Which one is more deserving of all-star nomination?

In my current (and first official game of OOTP20) I play as the White Sox. I used to be an on-and-off player of OOTP the last years, thus statswise I am not yet up there yet with knowledge. Besides enjoying the game, I like to use OOTP to improve my general baseball knowledge concerning stats. Using this moment as a way to learn better what to look at.

My question is, what stats should I be looking at concerning the all-stars nomination (in my modern 2019 season)? Using the two (2B and 3B AL all-stars voting) below as example.

My initial thought was Yolmer Sanchez being the most deserving of the spot on the All-Stars team. Highest averages, tied highest wRC+ and highest WAR. To me this seemed straight forward, but I am by no means an expert, so I might be missing something?

Here my initial thought was between Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Yoan Moncada. Guerrero Jr has a much higher wRC+ but Moncada has a higher WAR. Which one would be more deserving and why? Unless I am overlooking someone else (Andujar maybe).

I would pick your Sox in both cases, seems like you've got them playing well.

Vladdy Jr. is batting crazy but he has fewer ABs and his 3B defense is awful. He should be moved to 1B both in OOTP and real life.

Yes, I have had a good start with the White Sox thus far. To my surprise, considering I started the game with a rebuild in mind. Running 26-17 at .605 at the moment, just behind the Indians in the division.

I was lucky that many of the batters are performing above my expectations, Sanchez, Delmonico, Moncada, Anderson, Abreu and Jimenez well above .300 AVG this period. But the season is long.

Makes sense what you said about Vladimir, just didn't want to have a bias towards my own players as White Sox general manager.

Blue Jays' fan here. I think you're good on both counts. I like looking at WPA as well, which tells me how a player has done at the plate, with context included, i.e. a 2-run HR up nine is nowhere near as important to the outcome of a game as a 2-run HR to tie the game, or take your team from behind to in the lead, and the later in the game such an important offensive event happens, the more important it is. There's no one perfect stat though, so don't drive yourself nuts with this. Put it this way, I doubt anybody IRL would object to players off to the starts that Sanchez and Moncada are off to making the All-Star team.

Also, I can't agree with moving Vladdy to 1B...Yet. He's 20. I need to see huge strides with his conditioning, and agility this offseason. I think his arm would be wasted at 1B, but I agree that he hasn't gotten off to the best of starts at the hot corner. Far, far, far from the biggest concern with my favourite team though.

So... many matches later, around the midway point of the season,, this suddenly happened. This seems kind of an excessive, never witnessed this kind of game before.

Oh they happen alright. I think it's because baseball is not bound by a game clock. You have to get at least 24 outs, sometimes 27, sometimes more if the game goes to extra innings. Beatdowns are relentless in baseball, and there's no clock to afford you mercy. Take a gander at this one: https://www.baseball-reference.com/b...00708221.shtml

That was only game 1 of a doubleheader. Texas beat Baltimore 9-7 in the second game to complete a day of stupendous offensive output. That's why they say baseball is a funny game, because it is.
