Scouting as a whole
Im relatively new to the game and just wanted to delve a bit deeper with the scouting options.
Ive signed loads of scouts and organised their assignments but unless im doing something wrong then it doesnt seem any players, apart from those in the U Sports league, are signable during the season. Anyone in the KHL under contract is impossible to offer a contract to because of the message box which appears about NHL honouring KHL contracts. I wonder is it possible to make an offer to a KHL player in the last year of their KHL contract or not? Im concerned here as i noticed that a player i had NHL rights for who was contracted to a KHL team was signed to a KHL contract extension (which took him into his late 20’s). This stopped me from being able to sign him during his prime years. Its possible i missed the window from june to august that is mentioned in another in game message box when i try to sign players from other leagues instead. Im most defintely confused. Also any ideas what the benefits of specifically scouting 14 to 16 year olds would be as you wouldnt be able to sign those either. I must say its taking me time to work out and around all these intracies as with a background in Football Manager and OOTP 19 im unused to these kind if restrictions which prevent you from easily improving your team. Im guessing there are no particular other leagues that im guaranteed to find directly available players to sign as most of the better players over 18 will already have their NHL rights owned by another team at that point. Any pointers on any of these aspects would be a real help as i love FHM 5 and cant wait to be able to improve in this particular area of the game. |

You can't offer a KHL player a contract until he's under contract with his KHL team. It's like that IRL too, so the game is not breaking any rule in this regards.
It's true however, that: 1) you have no means whatsoever to influence a player's decision regarding his NHL status before he hits free agency. This is bad, because players should know that NHL teams are behind them and should thus behave accordingly. 2) rights on KHL (and Swiss league) players IRL are held until they hit UFA age, in the game they are in for 4 years. This strengthens the problem stated at the point 1), unfortunately. |
