OOTP 14: Setting up a new world (need help on world_default.xml)

Hi!

With the manual being... out of date and the new possibility of having separate databases for your game I am trying to set up my new league (a small one for starters to test the setup).

I am running into trouble with the world_default.xml, and here are my problems:

My league is a sci-fi league. There basically are only four major nations, but there are several "races" within each. My league starts in just one of those, but I have three to n races in it, which is important to get the names right - and I have logos (in lieu of flags) for each "race".

Obviously I don't have continents or cities. Instead I have planets (but more important are space stations), systems, constellations (they are pretty arbitrary collections of systems and might be ignored) and regions, which may contain systems controlled by different star empires, though.

My big question is: How would I model this in the game, especially the world_default.xml?

This is a bit different from setting up a new fantasy continent in our world and I am having trouble wrapping my head around it .

I would suggest reading through this thread

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...le-edited.html

and this one

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ref-guide.html

The reference guide is very well done and explains things in easy to understand terms.

In my league as I have talked to you about before I match my cities up with real cities and my planets are real nations. i dont know if i sent you my txts take a look at them see if they help at all. Cities file is too big to upload.
Attached Files
File Type: txt nations.txt (18.6 KB, 188 views)

What version of the game are you using for this? Given that there isn't a nations.txt anymore :{

I'd probably much prefer still having comma-separated files - they are much easier to handle than the XML one.

Last version that had the txts nation & city file was 11. I have yet to edit the XML file so I have several versions of my league on 11 and convert them to 12, 13 and 14 and save them as templates and quickstarts. It sucks having all 4 versions on my HD, but for now I have enough space since about the only other thing i have on my PC is music. I need to edit the XML at somepoint or stop buying OOTP and stay with 14.
