*sigh*...
I was lovingly constructing a promotion/relegation version of baseball with real players using the historical game setup, and I had a whole tournament set up to figure out where each team would go, with a group stage and everything, all manually scheduled. That's over, I set up my leagues...and suddenly I click on a financials page and the game crashes. Why, why, why, why, why do I never learn to save?

that is tragic. Nothing kills enthusiasm and creativity more then the game crashing during setup

I'm in a similar boat... just set up my new dynasty report league over the weekend -- was going to be a mix of historical random debut and feeder league draftees.
Test worked out great... forgot to do ONE small thing when I re-started after the test, and no real players entering the league now.

I have an issue with the game crashing on startup too. What I've found is the more you mess with the league setup the more likely the crash is. It's gotten so bad I set up the league and save the template and test and change and test and change and then after I notice the file size start to jump up (which btw it never should but something in the way the game saves causes the templates to save old information behind new information) I write everything down and recreate the entire template from scratch. It gets pretty annoying but it works. I wish their was a way to figure out what the bug is in the league creation that causes the information to save bad.

I've noticed it gets really unstable when you mess with the starting year which leaves the year for the schedule blank

agreed. It doesn't like the starting year being changed. And if you use multiple templates it REALLY hates not having all the templates having the starting year the same. Although it still uses the latest (or furthest into the future date)
