My Plea to Markus... Roster Creation and Editing
About two versions ago, I came up with an idea on how to make roster creation much easier. Then, real life got in the way and I never registered here and suggested it. So, here I am today with my idea.
Suggestion: The league history needs to be able to be edited. We need the ability to go in and edit the world series championships, previous standings, award winners, basically anything and everything in the league history. Why this is needed: This would allow roster creators to have the ability to only have to make an entire roster file from scratch one single time. Come next season, all you have to do is edit the league history with who won the wold series, who won awards, and team standings. For the players, we can already import in statistics so nothing needs to be done there. It would be simply doing some spread sheet work to update the individual players. Side Bonus: This would make it much much easier to do a massive game world wiht say MLB, multiple foreign leagues, a full NCAA and independent leagues because the time consuming part is having to recreate all those players that are not in the original database when you load a new roster through the Lahman DB. Conclusion: Markus, please take a good look at the feasibility of this? I would imagine it would completely change the way roster mods are created by the OOTP community, thus making the job so much easier. Which would lead to better mods being created. Bonus: I also just realized it would allow for custom roster files, like as an example one could change the start date to August 1st, edit in the standings for all games prior to that day and make a roster file for a post trade deadline file. |

When I originally bought 11, I was hoping I could do something close to this. I have league that I have been playing since Front Page Baseball, Hardball I and Tony La Russa 3 (forget which one was 1st). I transferred all my players their stats and team win - loss records to High Heat 1999 - 2004. Played HH2k3 til 2010. Rediscovered OOTP (had 6.5, hated it) and fell in love with OOTP but have always been disappointed that I have yet to pick up from the 2036 season since HH2k3. Now I have been able to do things with OOTP and that league that I was never able to do with the other games and have enjoyed redoing the complete history of the league, but I would have been content to continue that league from wheere I left off. i have had 7 attempts at rewriting the history of this league but i always encounter a problem and have to back track a few years or start all over again. Backups fail, PC crashes, corrupt file, etc.

A better import export system would be very helpful too. For example the roster currently exports to txt files so that when opened in excel the players and all of their ratings take up a full line.
If the rosters exported to an excel file (.csv) that opened up with each db field in it's own excel cell it's be very easy to use excel to create roster files with copying and pasting, rather than the cumbersome and time consuming current method of using the editor. There's already an ability in game to export to .csv files, just no way to import edited .csv files back into the game. Really all that would be needed, I think, is to add the ability to import as well as to export the .csv files. |

I would like to see this change implemented as well as the ability to edit player stats with a drop-down menu in the Player Editor. I can edit player stats with Excel but they never re-import successfully. The game always says the import fails. I have tried editing the stats as text files but it is more time-consuming that way. With a simple drop-down menu, the edited stats can be entered directly into the database. Surely that can be coded fairly easily?

I like this idea also. I started my fictional league back in OOTP 6 days, and transferred it to every version, but I cannot see the champions from the first two seasons. My team won the world series in the second season, but its not shown, and this has always bugged me. With an edit function I could update these championships and make things right.

This would be very nice. I transferred my league from some spreadsheets developed off of Earl Weaver data to OOTP2 in 2000. I still have players active who have a missing 1999 season because of a quirk in the import process in OOTP2, and league history has some piecemeal beginning dates (depending on the bit of data) between 2000 and 2006 or so, as OOTP succeeding versions kept track of more and more things.
