Phoenix Suns

First off, I haven't done a story for a long time. I'm not sure what style I'll use and I may change randomly throughout the story.

I'll be playing as GM and all on-field stuff will be handled by the manager, even if I disagree with it. I guess I can always fire him/trade away any player he's playing who shouldn't etc etc.

The story mirrors real life baseball, the League started in 1871 and leagues contracted and expanded over the course of time, until 1901 when the American League and National League combined to become MLB.(For teams and leagues, I'm using the pack that cephasjames created several years ago (http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=227176). So a big hat tip to him for spending the time creating the jersey's/leagues and history, although contracting and expanding minor league teams over the course of time was a pain in the...

The MLB has several levels of minor leagues (AAA to R) which started out as unaffiliated leagues until the 1940's when they became affiliated with the MLB. The world also has some independent leagues, Japanese, Korean, Cuban and Mexican leagues running.

National League:

Atlanta Indians(Boston, Milwaukee) (1901)- : 8086 - 7144. 9 playoff appearances, 8 NL Pennants and 5 World Series(1927,1932,1937,1948,1950).
The Indians enjoyed a fine run between 1927-1950 where they won 8 Pennants and 5 World Series titles. Since that spell the Indians have made the post season once in 1992, but were beaten in the NLCS.

Chicago Colonels (1901)- : 7378 - 7849. 3 playoffs 0 Pennants and 0 World Series.
The Colonels haven't given their fans anything to cheer about in their history, their long suffering fans had to wait until 1970 for their first playoff appearance. They've made the postseason twice in the last 7 years but have suffered first round exits both times.

Cincinnati Redbirds (1901)- : 7032 - 8197. 14 playoffs 14 Pennants and 8 World Series(1926,1930,1980,1981,1987,1989,1991,1993).
The Redbirds had a nice run between 1925-1931 where they claimed 6 pennants and 2 WS titles, they had another run between 1980-92 claiming 8 pennants and 6 WS titles, in between those runs the Redbirds have hung around in the towards the bottom of their league, after the last run they're now in a rebuild and their fans will be hoping for another winning run.

Denver Rockies (1993)- : 299-511.
It's been a hard introduction for the Rockies since they entered the MLB with 4 losing seasons and 3 of them containing 100+ loses, although they recorded their first winning season in 1997.

Houston All-Stars (1962)- :2956 -2878 5 playoff 2 Pennants 2 World Series(1985,1986).
The All-Stars won back to back titles in 1985-86, then had a decade where they hung around the lower reaches of the NL West, they made the postseason in 1995 and 1996 but missed out in 1997.

Los Angeles Blue Sox (Brooklyn) (1901) : 8578 - 6651 27 playoffs
16 Pennants 9 World Series(1933,1939,1942,1945,1953,1961,1965,1967,197 0 ).
The Blue Sox are there or there about every season, although it's been a while since they last won the World Series, their fans will be hoping that wait comes to an end soon.

Miami Whales (1993): 245-565
Like their 1993 expansion brothers the Rockies, the Whales have had a tough time, finishing last in their division and losing 100+ games every year, although last year they won 62 games and will be looking to build on that improvement.

Milwaukee Hops (1969): 2122 - 2576. 1 AL Pennant 1 World Series(1995)
The Hops were a middling team for most part of their existence, then had a close call in 1994 where they just missed out on the playoffs for the first time, they went all the way in 1995. Due to the expansion they are moving to the NL for the 1998 season.

Montreal Canadiens (1969): 2078 - 2620
It's been tough for Montreal and not much to cheer about for their fans, although the last few years have seen an improvement and 4 straight years of .500+ ball has given their fans some hope.

New York Metropolitans (1962): 2844 - 2988 4 playoffs 1 Pennant 1 World Series(1997)
The Mets started out slow finishing towards the bottom of their league for the first decade of their existence, they give their fans some hope in the mid 70's but just couldn't get over the line. They made their first playoffs in 1986 but then made their fans wait until 1995 for their next. They finally won it all this year and their fans will be wanting more in the coming years.

Philadelphia Keystones (1901): 7523 - 7704 28 playoffs 14 Pennants 12 World Series(1912,1913,1914,1916,1917,1918,1919,1920,192 2,1977,1978,1992)
The Keystones were the dominant force at the start of the league but success has been harder for them to achieve since the mid 1920's, they've won 3 World Series since their early run, although they've made the postseason for the last 4 years but haven't been able to get to the World Series.

Pittsburgh Pioneers (1901): 8104 - 7125 15 playoffs 11 Pennants 3 World Series(1949,1952,1973)
The Pioneers are one of the leagues finest regular season teams, they just can't seem to find the magic in the post season.

San Diego Sailors (1969): 2075 - 2623 1 playoff
The Sailors spent the first 20 years of their existence with the exception of 1975, struggling to play close to .500 ball. They looked to have changed that by putting together back to back .500+ seasons in 1995,1996 but injuries in 1997 derailed that momentum.

San Francisco Miners (New York) (1901): 7419 - 7807 11 playoffs 9 Pennants 3 World Series(1903,1969,1996)
The Miners started out life fast, winning 3 pennants in the leagues first 4 years, then the tough times hit and the Miners quickly grew to a frustration for their fans, they won the NL pennant back to back in 1923 and 1924 but their fans then had to wait another 45 years for postseason ball and they delivered their 2nd title, after that there was another drought off success, but the Miners the last 3 years have turned it around and won a World Series title and made the NLCS last season.

St Louis Royals (1901): 7641 - 7588 18 playoffs 13 Pennants 6 World Series(1906,1909,1910,1946,1955,1957)
Up until the start of the 1960's the Royals were one of the better teams in the league with 11 pennants and 6 titles, but since the 1960's expansions and free agency starting in 1976, there hasn't been much to cheer about for the smallish market Royals. Although with some better drafts since the start of the 1990's the Royals are starting to look like a title winning team again.

American League:

Baltimore Bombers (1901): 6848 - 8387 5 playoffs 2 Pennants 1 World Series(1974)
Life isn't easy for a Baltimore fan, regularly finish last or as close to it as possible as often as they can. There have been a few bright years for them but mostly it ends in tears for them.

Boston Rebels (1901): 7675 - 7562 12 playoffs 9 Pennants 4 World Series(1907,1911,1915,1975)
The Rebels were at their peak before the expansion years, since the league has expanded the Rebels have made the postseason 4 times winning a pennant and a World series. They were looking good to break the barren spell in 1997, but injuries to key arms in their rotation but paid to those plans.

Chicago Athletes (1901): 8303 - 6933 23 playoffs 19 Pennants 11 World Series(1904,1905,1921,1924,1943,1947,1951,1954,195 6,1959,1984)
The Athletes are another team that did well before expansion and free agency, they still play solid ball but struggle to make the postseason only doing so 7 times since their 1959 World Series win, although they did claim their first pennant in 13 years this past season.

Cleveland Kings (1901): 8203- 7033 20 playoffs 16 Pennants 15 World Series(1901,1902,1936,1938,1940,1944,1958,1960,196 2,1963,19661968,1971,1972,1988)
When they make the World Series they normally win it, although they've now gone a decade since they last lifted the trophy. Although 6 last place finishes in the last 9 years hasn't given their fans anything to cheer about, is the rebuild over?

Dallas Rangers (1972): 2086 - 2127 3 playoffs 1 Pennant 1 World Series(1982)
Dallas are the kind of team you wouldn't know were in the league unless you were a fan of the league, the finish in the middle year in year out with a few exceptions when they've sneaked into the postseason, this tactic has worked once when Dallas brought home a championship.

Detroit Robins (1901): 6805 - 8429 3 playoffs 1 Pennant 1 World Series(1976)
The Robins are so bad it almost makes you feel sorry for them, the made their fans wait until 1976 for their first post season which they won, the made the playoffs the next 2 years but since then have returned to anonymity.

Kansas City Huskers (1969): 2315 - 2383 4 playoffs 2 Pennants 1 World Series(1983)
The Huskers are a team that in another reality could have 7 or more World Series titles, since their only world title they have finished 2nd in their division 8 times and in 6 of those occasions have missed the postseason by a handful of games.

Los Angeles Angels (1961): 3006 -2989 8 playoffs 5 Pennants 1 World Series(1979)
The Angels have no issue in getting to the World Series but when they get there they seem to forget how they got there.

Minneapolis Lakers (1961): 2844 - 3150 6 playoffs 4 Pennants 0 World Series
Joining the league after the Washington Generals disbanded, the Lakers have promised to deliver on several occasions but have yet to climb that final step.

New York Bears (1901): 8022 - 7214 19 playoffs 11 Pennants 5 World Series(1923,1925,1929,1934,1941)
The Bears were one of the better teams in the post WW1 days, they managed to hold on to that until the middle of WW2. After that there were close finishes but no postseason action until 1980, the last 4 years they've managed to make the postseason but not make it to the World Series.

Oakland Oaks(Philadelphia, Kansas) 1901: 7955 - 7284 18 playoffs 13 Pennants 3 World Series(1908,1964,1990)
Another team that enjoyed early success then suffered long spells of failure. The start of the 1990's was kinder to them as they made the postseason 6 times in a row, although they've missed them the last 2 years.

Seattle Warriors (1977): 1514- 1888 1 playoff
The Warriors finally made the postseason this year although they fell at the first hurdle. The team and it's fans will be hoping this is the start of long winning run.

Toronto Maple Leafs(1977) 1599- 1803 3 playoffs 1 Pennant 1 World Series(1994)
Like all expansion teams, the Leafs have struggled, but in 1992 they made the postseason for the first time and won it 2 years later, a couple of close calls in 1995 and 1996 but the Leafs missed out, but they made it back into the postseason in 1997.

October 28th 1997:

It's official the Phoenix Suns and Tampa Bay Pirates are now the 29th and 30th teams in MLB.

The expansion draft is scheduled for 22nd of November. Me and my staff will spend that time looking at reports of the players who will be available in the expansion draft, we'll also be looking for players to sign to bolster our minor league teams and add depth to the players we select in the expansion draft.

Expansion Draft

The day is here that we'll finally welcome some players to the Phoenix Suns.

These are the 35 guys who'll be vying for a spot on the 25 man roster,

Pitchers:
RHP Juan Campos 29 years old. $294,000. Pitched in 5 MLB seasons, been a starter and used in relief. Has pitched 338.1 innings for an era of 4.07(FIP has him at just under 4) has a career K/9 of 8.4 but his BB/9 is 4.6 but has been coming down year after year. He's currently recovering from a partially torn UCL but should be fit for Spring Training. Drafted from the Houston All-Stars.

LHP Robby Vaughan 23 years old. MiLC. Yet to crack the majors leagues, but has a decent track record in the minors(aside from a bad run at AA, but handled AAA fine). He's been used as a starter and in relief, at present I see him in the bullpen and his K/9 numbers point to him being more efficient in relief. Drafted from the Minneapolis Lakers.

RHP Paul Leach 26 years old. $139,200. Had a brief 16.1 inning spell in the majors and was hit pretty hard with an ERA to prove it. Has looked a lot better in the minors with some impressive K/9 and BB/9. Hopefully we can work out the trick and get him to perform at his minor league numbers in the majors. Drafted from Chicago Colonels.

RHP Mike Garcia 30 years old. $264,000. Pitched 183 innings in the bigs for 4 teams, has had some impressive spells but had some struggles too. Drafted from the Cincinnati Redbirds.

LHP Jonathan Clark 26 years old. MiLC. Yet to make it to the show, doesn't get a lot of strikeouts but doesn't give up many walks or home runs. Might be a useful innings eater during our formative years. Drafted from the Atlanta Indians.

LHP Jesse Flores 24 years old. MiLC. Yet to make it to the show and currently recovering from a torn UCL, should be ready for Spring Training. I know it's a risk selecting him, but he throws his fastball over 100mph has 2 other plus pitches and doesn't give up walks. Drafted from the New York Bears.

RHP Victor Garza 24 years old. $139,200. Spent a little bit of time in the show, his K/9 numbers are over 10 but sadly his BB/9 are close to 5. If he can figure out control he could be a dominant bullpen arm, another young arm who throws 100 mph+. Drafted from the Boston Rebels.

LHP Chris Armstrong 24 years old. MiLC. Not made it to the Majors yet but that should soon change. ERA just under 3.25 and FIP is also that low plus he backs that up with a high K/9(over 10) and a low BB/9(under 2). Drafted from the Pittsburgh Pioneers.

RHP Dave Ortiz 30 years old. MiLC. Spent time in the majors nothing to write home about, but might be able to eat up some innings in our debut season. Drafted from the Dallas Rangers.

RHP Adam Riley 28 years old. $1,040,000. Premier set up man for is previous team and managed a few saves(if that's your thing). Should be a useful arm in the bullpen and hopefully a trade chip near the deadline. Drafted from the New York Metropolitans. (1 time World Series winner)

RHP Jimmy Houde 28 years old. $1,000,000. Another set up man/closer. Should be another useful arm and again hopefully a trade chip before the deadline. Drafted from the Montreal Canadiens. (2 Time All-Star)

RHP Gabe Velthouse 24 years old. $230,000. As the previous two, although he's younger and under team control for a touch longer than the 2 above. Drafted from the Cleveland Kings.

LHP Nick Bonds 26 years old. MiLC. Suffered from his fair share of injuries, but has put up solid numbers when he's been on the mound. Drafted from the Montreal Canadiens.

RHP Marty Wade 23 years old. MiLC. A young hand not made it to AAA yet but has dominated in AA and A+. Not sure if he can make it as a starter in the majors but what do we have to lose? Drafted from the Kansas City Huskers.

RHP Felix Godinez 23 years old. MiLC. A 2 pitch guy with a 3rd pitch that may or may not develop, but worth the risk as he throws over 100 mph. Just needs to cut down on the free passes. Drafted from the Boston Rebels.

RHP Jorge Tovar 24 years old. MiLC. Another guy who has in his minor league career shown flashes of brilliance and flashes of nothingness. Hopefully he can figure it out and provide us with some useful innings.

OF Bill Foster L/R 29 years old. $2,840,000. Can hold his own at the plate and plays good defense in the corner outfield. Drafted from the Cincinnati Redbirds (3 Gold Gloves, 2 World Series)

OF Dave Encinas L/L 21 years old. MiLC. Has the tools to hit, not yet developed. Plus defense in the outfield and speed to burn. Drafted from the St Louis Royals.

OF Jamel Bowman S/R 22 years old. MiLC. Not yet played in the majors but that will change in a few months time. Has speed to be a stolen base threat glides in the outfield, the question is, can he hit at the major league level? Drafted from the Chicago Colonels.

OF Eric Brooks L/R 27 years old. $166,000. Not really stuck yet in the majors, may never be a batting title contender but should be able to hit a bit and get on base. Plays gold glove center field. Drafted from the Oakland Oaks.

Introducing the 1998 Phoenix Suns

Phoenix Suns.

3/30.
So after Spring training, we've finally cut down the roster to 25. There were a couple of hard calls on who to keep and who to send down. So without any delay here are the inaugural Phoenix Suns.

Pitchers:

SP Bobby Anderson 34, S/R (9-13, 4.54 ERA - 130-119, 3.98 ERA) The 1989 Buck-Lofgren award winner and 3 time All-star. We're hoping that Anderson can anchor the rotation in the early years of the team.

SP Elisha Benayoun 26, R/R (4-5 1SV, 5.12 ERA - 6-6 14SV, 4.46 ERA)Whilst he's spent time in the major's , he's yet to start a game. He started a lot of games in the minors and we're hopeful he can translate that success to the major's.

SP Mark Doull 29, R/R (5-21 5.71 ERA - 19-43 12SV 4.72 ERA) Signed to add depth to our rotation, whilst some of his traditional numbers don't look great we're hoping he can eat some innings.

SP Jesse Flores 25, S/L (Yet to pitch in the Major's) Our scouts are hopeful that Flores can be a #1 starter for us. Hopefully in his first shot in the show, he'll be able to keep his head above water.

SP Jabari Thomas 30, R/R (4-9 5.98 ERA - 70-80 4 SV, 4.15 ERA) Last year was a tough one for Thomas, he suffered his first major injury and we're hopeful that he can return to the form he showed from 1991-1996 where he produced above average results.

MR Chris Armstrong 24, L/L (Yet to play in the major's) Whilst Armstrong has yet to play at the major league level, is numbers in the minors fill me with confidence that he'll be more than useful member of our bullpen, possible closer material.

MR Mike Garcia 30, R/R (2-1 1SV, 5.40 ERA - 7-3 3SV, 4.52 ERA) Yet to figure it out in the big's but should be able to get some outs in low pressure situations.

MR Victor Garza 25, L/R (1-2 1SV, 5.05 ERA - 1-2 2SV, 4.50 ERA) Only pitched 46 innings in the big's, shown some promise and doesn't give up many home runs, and strikes out hitters at 10 K/9.

MR Jimmy Houde 29, R/R (2-1 25 SV, 2.64 ERA - 16-25 148 SV, 2.99 ERA) A solid option for the bullpen and led the league in saves in 1996 with 50.

MR Paul Leach 26, L/R (0-4 3SV, 11.02 ERA) Cracked the big's last year for the first time but was bitten due to his high walk rate. Hopefully he's improved from last year and can cut down on the free passes.

MR Gabe Velthouse 24, L/L (11-4 17SV, 4.22 ERA -13-4 17SV 4.27 ERA) Going to be our primary set-up guy. Last year he was used as a starter and in relief and produced some promising numbers in both roles.

CL Adam Riley 29 R/R (4-4 25SV, 2.75 ERA - 19-12 36SV, 2.46 ERA) Had a good year for the Metropolitans last year, hopefully he can handle the full time role of closer.

Position Players:

C Jorge Gonzalez 24, L/R (.218, 1 HR, 13 RBI) Whilst his bat has yet to come around at the major league level, his defensive skills behind the plate make up for that short coming at the moment.

C Dave Sanchez 29, S/R (.244, 9 HR, 49 RBI - .255, 125 HR, 513 RBI) Dave can hit, whilst he's not going to win any batting titles, he can hold his own at the plate. Behind the dish Dave is a a defensive wizard. He's also a leader and the clubhouse is more than happy he's here. 1 time all-star.

1B Vic Mendez 24, S/R (.263, 2 HR, 5 RBI) Limited time in the big's last year with the Blue Sox, but hit the cover off the ball at AAA before his promotion last year. Hopefully he'll trend in the right direction with the bat this season.

2B/SS Zach Center 27, R/R (Didn't appear in majors last year - .250, 0 HR, 0 RBI) Not known for his hitting, Center offers great defense at both center infield spots.

2B/SS Robert Moore 28, S/R (.229, 0 HR, 8 RBI - .226, 0 HR 9 RBI)Not a hitter but doesn't strikeout a whole bunch. Another wizard at both center infield positions.

3B/1B Bill Hansen 24, L/R (.316, 2 HR, 5 RBI) A brief call up last season with the Pioneers showed that Hansen can handle his own in the majors. Was slated to be our 1B this year until we traded for Mendez, should be able to hold his own at the hot corner.

3B/LF Ivan Sambrano 24, R/R (Yet to play in the majors) A .270 career hitter in the minors and those numbers have risen as he rose through the minors. With the glove Sambrano should be above average at the hot corner.

SS Justin Moore 29, S/R (.294, 1 HR, 55 RBI - .326, 22 HR, 384 RBI). Justin is blessed with a lot of speed, rarely strikes out and draws his fair share of walks. 2 time Gold Glove, 1 time Silver Slugger, 1 All-Star game and a World Champion with the 1992 Philadelphia Keystones.

RF/LF A.J. McClary 31, R/R (.326, 9 HR, 64 RBI - .296, 69 HR, 318 RBI) McClary is a solid hitter, won't hit 20 home runs but will chip in with his share, solid corner outfielder and has some speed on the bases. Won the World Series with the Metropolitans last year.

LF/1B Ray Schirm 25, S/R (.222, 6 HR, 18 RBI - .234, 6 HR, 18 RBI) Ray can play good LF. Another one who's blessed with blistering speed.

CF Jamel Bowman 22, S/R (Not played in the majors) Bowman is a future gold glove winner, batting title challenger and stolen base champion.

CF Eric Brooks 28, L/R (.210, 6 HR, 14 RBI - .192, 6 HR, 20 RBI) Whilst not a threat at the plate, Brooks provides outstanding defense in center and is yet another with blistering speed.

LF/RF Lance Craigo 29, R/R (Yet to play at the majors, but is a career .301 hitter in AAA.) Not going to be up there in the home run charts, but can hit and hopefully will do so at the majors. Another one who's quick in the field and on the bases.

Next up for the Suns is a 2 game series @ St. Louis Royals

Phoenix Suns:

The Boffins in charge of MLB's computers have crunched numbers and come out with the Pheonix Suns finishing 3rd in the NL West with a 89-73 record(I'd glady take that).

Chris Perez the owner of the Phoenix Suns has set these goals:
Don't suck completely.
Upgrade Right Field by 2000
Reach the Playoffs by 2002

Upcoming Games: Vs St. Louis Royals

RHP B.Anderson vs RHP J.Knutson
RHP Jabari Thomas vs RHP M.Mervine

Around the League:
Signings/Contract extensions:
3/31 The New York Metropolitans sign 33 year-old LHP Dave Uphaus to a 1 year deal worth $890,000

Accomplishments:
3/31 Cleveland Kings, Pete Hixon's 25 game hitting streak came to an end. He went 0-3 vs the Oakland Oaks.

Top Prospects:
Shawn Rushing of the Montreal Canadiens is named the top prospect in MLB. Rushing is a hrad throwing starter who reaches 100 mph on the gun, he has a plus plus Fastball, curveball and slider. He also uses a changeup but that needs a lot of work.

We have the #2 prospect in 1B Vic Mendez and a few others in the top 100, Steve Belk is 12th,Jesse Flores is 15th, John Dover is 29th and Jamel Bowman is 32nd.

Lance Craigo picked up the first hit in the Suns history, he hit a single in the 1st inning. It got better for the suns in the 2nd when R.Moore drove in the first run.In the bottom of the third, the Suns ran into some trouble, with 2 outs the Royals got 2 men on base and 3B A.Butler sent the ball over the center field wall. They then added another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. In the 7th Craigo hits a sac fly and scores R.Moore. A.Orepeza then sends the ball out to right field and restores the Royals 3 run lead. The top of the ninth, J.Gonzalez singles to get the inning started, J.Moore then hits a run scoring triple, next hitter Craigo hits another sac fly to get J.Moore home 5-4 St. Louis, can the dream comeback really happen, next hitter Mendez drops the ball in front of their LF Orepeza, 1 on 1 out. The game started badly and went down hill even quicker. Line-up;
J.Moore SS, Craigo RF, Mendez 1B, Hansen 3B, McClary LF, Bowman CF, R.Moore 2B, J.Gonzalez C, Anderson P.

Not the result that we wanted for our debut home opener. With 2 outs in the 1st, Munro hit his 2nd home run of the year, the next batter up Burton hit his 2nd home run of the year. Then in the 2nd inning Galvin hit another home run for the Rockies and his 2nd of the year, they add another run from a J.Rodriguez single. In the bottom of the third, we get on the board thanks to a 2 run shot from J.Moore, his 2nd of the year. We claw another run back in the 5th, but Pinkey hits a 2 run shot of his own in the 6th for his 1st of the year. The Rockies then add an insurance run in the 9th to make it 7-3 Rockies.

Home Runs:
Suns: J.Moore (2)
Rockies: Burton (2), Munro (2), Galvin (2), Pinkey
WP: G.Moya 1-0 (4.09)

SV: Hyslop 2nd (0.00)
POTG: J.Moore (Suns)

April 8th, Denver Rockies (5-2) @ Phoenix Suns (3-3) Attendance: 22,400

Line-up:;
J.Moore SS, Craigo RF, Mendez 1B, Bowman CF, Hansen 3B, Schirm LF, Sanchez C, R.Moore 2B, Thomas P.

A sticky start to the first, as Thomas couldn't locate the strike zone, he managed to get out of the jam and only gave up 1 run. But Vic Mendez hit his first home run for the Suns giving us a 2-1 lead. We added another run in the 4th to give us a 3-1 lead. Thomas had now put his 1st inning trouble behind him. The Rockies pulled another run back in the 7th to make it 3-2, but we made it a 2 run game in the bottom of the 7th thanks to a Mendez single that resulted in a error by the Rockies allowing J.Gonzalez to score. The back end of the bullpen then shut down the Rockies in the final 2 innings, so the Suns win their first game at home.

Home Runs:
Suns: Mendez
WP: J.Thomas 2-0 (1.38)
LP: A.Garibay 0-1 (6.39)
SV: A.Riley (3) (0.00)

Flores was hoping for a better start than the one he had last time out and he managed to go 5 innings, not the greatest 5 innings but he kept the Rockies to 1 run on 5 hits. On the other side of the field, J.Gonzalez hit his first home run of the year and Craigo, Bowman and the Moore's added a few more hits. The Suns take the game 8-2.

April 10th, Houston All-Stars (6-4) @ Phoenix Suns (5-3) Attendance: 33,905

Line-ups
Suns:J.Moore SS, Craigo RF, Mendez 1B, Hansen 3B, McClary LF, Bowman CF, R.Moore 2B, Sanchez C, Benayoun P.

All-Stars:J.CorteZ 2B, E.Coffey RF, T.Suh LF, J.Quezada 1B, J.Seymour 3B, A.Ramires SS, J.Salvatierra CF, S.Heredia C, K.Clifford P.

This game swung back and forth until the end. The Suns got an early lead in the 2nd thanks to a run scoring triple for Bowman. The All-Stars hit back in the 3rd with a 2 run shot from Cortez but that lead was short lived as Mendez hit a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning. Mendez extended our lead in the 5th by driving in another run. The Astros added 2 runs in the 7th to take a 4-3 lead. Bottom of the 7th and Mendez once again delivers with a 2 run bomb, we pad the lead with a further 2 runs to take a 3 run lead. Then the top of the 8th the wheels fall off, Velthouse has a meltdown with 3 wild pitches allowing the All-Star to tie it all up. In the 9th Suh steps up and drives in what turns out to be the winning run.

Houston All-Stars 8 - 7 Phoenix Suns
Home Runs:
Suns: Mendez 2(3)
All-Stars: Cortez 1 (4)
WP: J.Cottrell 1-0 (0.00)
LP: A.Riley 0-1 (2.25)
SV: S.McLeish (2) (3.60)
POTG: V.Mendez (Suns)

April 11th, Houston All-Stars (7-4) @ Phoenix Suns (5-4) Attendance: 29,468

Line-ups;
Suns: J.Moore SS, Bowman CF, Mendez 1B, Hansen 3B, McClary LF, Schirm RF, J.Gonzalez C, Center 2B, Doull P.

Another close game between the two sides but once again the All-Stars come out on top. Abernethy got the ball rolling with a 2 run shot in the 2nd, it remained that way until J.Moore plated Center to make it 2-1. After that it was a pitching duel between the 2 starters, in the bottom of the 6th Hansen tied it up at 2, with his first home run of the year. Sadly for the Suns we coughed up the lead in the top of the 7th as Quezada hit a solo shot to give Houston the lead, this time there was no comeback for the Suns. A positive from this game is that Velthouse put yesterday's wildness behind him.

Houston All-Stars 3 - 2 Phoenix Suns
Home Runs:
Suns: Hansen
All-Stars: Abernethy, Quezada
WP: J.Paige 1-0 (1.64)
LP: M.Doull 1-1 (3.46)

Another close game, this time we managed to take the win. The All-Stars took the lead in the 4th when Abernethy plated Warner with a single down the left field line. In the 6th Mendez once again pulled a rabbit out of the hat with his 4th of the year. It was then a tense bullpen battle, ours held it's nerve and in the bottom of the 10th, Craigo knocked in the game winning run.

Houston All-Star 1-2 Phoenix Suns
Home Runs:
Suns: Mendez (4)
All-Stars: -
WP: A.Riley 1-1 (1.50)
LP: T.Merriam 0-1 (3.38)

This game was a tight one until the 8th inning and then it was blown open by some timely hitting from the middle order of the Suns line-up. Craigo got the scoring going with his first home run of the year, it stayed 1-0 until the 3rd when the All-Stars put a string of hits together to plate 2 runs and take the lead. In the 4th inning the Suns took the lead, when Gonzalez sliced the ball down the left field line and it just had enough juice to creep over the wall. It then remained 3-2 until the bottom of the 8th, then the Suns strung some hits together and added 4 more runs to the total.

Houston Astros 2-7 Phoenix Suns

Home Runs:
Suns: Craigo, Gonzalez (2)
All-Stars: -
WP: J.Thomas 3-0 (1.80)
LP: T.Heacock 1-1 (1.64)

Next up for the Suns, is a quick 2 game set in Los Angeles against the Blue Sox. The Blue Sox currently sit 4th in the West with a 6-8 record.

Projected Starters:

LHP J.Flores 1-1 (12.38) vs RHP A.Jaquez 1-1 (6.75)
