Is There A Way To Setup non Guaranteed Contracts During Setup?
I created a NFL league and I want to try to mirror non guaranteed contracts. I know there is an option for it under options but dont see anything for it under setup.

There is an option to give guaranteed contracts to (1) None, (2) Only star players and (3) random.
But, that only appears if you have "enable reserve-clause era rules" checked. |

That wouldn't work for an NFL type game would it?

Only if you have the secret setting enabled that awards 6 points for a TD, requires 10 yards for a 1st round and has the concussion setting on "very high", but the league acknowledge concussion setting down to "minimum we can get away with".
But, you do have to contact Roger Godell's office on how to find that setting. |

I mean 1st down. I have 1st round on my mind because I'm busy writing a league Constitution for a new online league.

That would be perfect, reserve roster could equal practice squad.
You could use feeders to simulate college players entering the draft.

You could also play around with PCM's, development speed, aging speed and TCMs to better mirror the boom bust of the NFL.

It can. With reserve era rules you can also set up multi year deals for which players, but you can still cut the guys and throw those contracts out. No hope in trying to mimic an NFL salary cap tho, but you can deal with non-guaranteed contracts, and it is nice to have that. I miss those old days of being able to cut the crap and not worry about paying him.

I've been calling for this feature for awhile. Hopefully it's an option next year...

There's a setting as well which lets you determine how much a released player gets in terms of termination pay. Historically, prior to free agency, released MLB players did get termination pay. It started off at 10 days' pay; shortly after WWII it was raised to 30 days. In the early 1970s it was raised again, but I don't have the exact details in front of me (I can post them later if anyone likes).
In terms of the percentage of a year's salary the termination pay amounted to, 10 days was roughly equal to 6% of the annual salary, and 30 days equal to about 17%. The cost of releasing a player during the reserve clause era was fairly cheap. (Though even during that era a few players did have guaranteed contracts, roughly 5% of all players. About an equal percentage had multiyear contracts.) |
