Would love to help with Lithuanian names and surnames
Would it be possible to add Lithuanian names and surnames to your next game database? I could help you with the most common ones.
Names and surnames generated by OOTP to Lithuanian players are mostly Russian or Slavic. The rest are not Lithuanian, as well. The possibility of Lithuanian professional sportsman having a Russian name or surname is pretty low. See those lists below. Lithuania is a Baltic country. Not Slavic. Almost 85% of them are Lithuanians. Russians, with all the respect to our neighbour country, make just about 6%. List of names of Lithuanian MLB players Dovydas Neverauskas (Pittsburgh Pirates) List of names of Lithuanian descent MLB players. They have English (American) names and Lithuanian surnames. Eddie Waitkus (Americanized. In Lithuanian it is Vaitkus) Pat Valaika (Colorado Rockies) Chris Valaika Chris Jakubauskas Joe Krakauskas Bill Sudakis List of names of Lithuanian NBA players. Arvydas Sabonis (Hall of Famer) Šarūnas Marčiulionis (Hall of Famer) Žydrūnas Ilgauskas (two time NBA all-star, a sidekick of Lebron James). Jonas Valančiūnas (Toronto Raptors) Donatas Motiejūnas (was a starter at Houston Rockets for two seasons) Linas Kleiza Darius Songaila Šarūnas Jasikevičius Arvydas Macijauskas Martynas Andriuškevičius Frank John Lubin (Pranas Jonas Lubinas in his Lithuanian passport) The captain of the first Olympic USA Basketball National Team that won Gold medal in 1936. In 1939 he joined Lithuanian National Team, reigning European champions, and helped them win another title. List of names of Lithuanian NFL players Arunas Vasys (Americanized spelling, in Lithuanian, Arūnas Vašys) List of names of Lithuanian descent NFL players John Unitas (Hall of Famer, his surname was a result of a phonetic transliteration of a common Lithuanian last name Jonaitis) Dick Butkus (Hall of Famer) Joe Jurevicius (In Lithuanian it would be Jurevičius) James Laurinaitis List of names of Lithuanian NHL players Darius Kasparaitis Dainius Zubrus Mantas Armalis (AHL, under contract to the San Jose Sharks) List of names of Lithuanian MLS players Vytautas Andriuškevičius Edgaras Jankauskas |

This is an annoyance to me as well. There are several different examples of this throughout the game world. I've mentioned the fact that most, if not all, Hungarians in the game have Finnish names in the bug report on a couple of occasions, but never got a response.
Another example of this is that it seems like almost every time I come across a Haitian-born player in the game, they have Hispanic names. Haitians are not Hispanics, and they have French surnames. I've done missionary work to Haiti in the past, and of the hundreds of Haitians I have met in cities throughout Haiti (Jérémie, Port-au-Prince, Jacmel, Cap-Haïtien), I don't remember one having a Hispanic name. I'm not saying they don't exist (I'm sure they do, considering that they share Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic), but they are rare. I'm going to look into this during the weekend, and see if I might be able to make my own modifications to the name database. I might be able to use the input of yourself and others, although it might be as easy as "googling" the most common names for each country. |
