Eastern Conference Semifinal Game Three

vs

The Hitmen scored first and, after Charlotte evened the score, drove home five unanswered goals against Martin Brodeur en route to taking a 2-1 series lead with a 6-3 win. Michel Goulet, Tony Tanti, Al McInnis, Busher Jackson, Pierre Larouche and Bobby Orr all tallied for the Hitmen, who got 26 saves from Bill Ranford. Bobby Hull and Radek Dvorek scored twice 14 seconds apart late in the third for Charlotte but it was well too little, too late.

Chicago 6, Charlotte 3 (Chicago leads series 2-1)

Western Conference Semifinal Game 3

vs

Owen Nolan scored his third goal of the series, Jari Kurri tallied as well and Sean Burke faced all 16 shots he faced as Calgary locked up Portland for 60 minutes in the first defensive battle of the AHA's first postseason. Perhaps most important for Calgary was Wayne Gretzky looking much more comfortable in his second game back from injury. Gretzky logged more than 20 minutes of ice time and was involved all night, taking seven shots. If Calgary has any chance to win the next two games and come back to take the series, Gretzky will need to be a factor.

Calgary 2, Portland 0 (Portland leads series 2-1)

Eastern Conference Semifinal Game Four

vs

The Pilots poured it on in a must-win Game Four, unleashing 46 shots. But in the end, their championship itinerary was changed, their journey ending with a 3-1 defeat to the Hitmen. Chicago advanced to the Eastern Conference Final thanks to an early goal from Alexei Yashin and the eventual game-winner early in the third from Jyrki Lumme. Tony Tanti added an insurance goal in the final minute. But the story was Bill Ranford's 45 saves, several of them stellar, in lifting the Hitmen to victory. Drew Doughty tallied the lone goal for Charlotte.

Chicago 3, Charlotte 1 (Chicago wins series 3-1)

Western Conference Semifinal Game 4

vs

Calgary continued to try and lock down Portland as they did to stave off elimination in Game 3. But at 13:20 of the first, Portland's Steve Larmer scored his first goal of the series to give the Pioneers the lead. But less than three minutes into the second, in a grinding matchup, Calle Johansson nailed a slapshot through traffic to knot the score. Tiny Thompson and Sean Burke were both terrific in between the pipes all game long. In the third, the sides had back-to-back power plays on uncharacteristic penalties from Portland's Pierre Turgeon and Calgary's Wayne Gretzky. But neither resulted in a goal and, when the third period ended we found ourselves headed to overtime. There, at the 6:33 mark, Calgary's Owen Nolan took a beautiful feed from Johansson after a seam-splitting pass from Gretzky to hit the back of the net for his fourth goal of the series and send the Calgary crowd into a frenzy as the Stampede had forced a Game 5!

Calgary 2, Portland 1 (overtime) (Series tied 2-2)

Western Conference Semifinal Game 5

vs

Portland came into Game Five determined not to let their 2-0 series lead slip away. They knew that had to be disciplined and they had to reclaim the offensive zone, applying more consistent pressure. And they did both of those things, taking no penalties and outshooting Calgary, 41-26, in the pivotal Game 5. But they didn't have a plan - not one that worked anyway - to contend with Owen Nolan, who scored the game's first and last goals to lift Calgary to a 3-2 win and a trip to the Western Conference Finals.Nolan scored six goals in the series, none better than the game-winning finale here, a shorthanded tally that decided the series. Portland had taken a 2-1 lead with a pair of goals in the second period from Dion Phaneuf on the power play and then from Pierre Turgeon to give them the lead. But Calgary's Anze Kopitar tied the game at 2:54 of the third, setting the stage for Nolan's winner. Calgary wins the series without a goal from almost assured MVP Wayne Gretzky, which no one would have banked on before the series began.

Calgary 3, Portland 2 (Calgary wins series 3-2)

Eastern Conference Final Review

vs

Game 1
The Hitmen didn't know what hit them here as the Engines put on an absolute clinic, embarrassing Chicago before a boisterous home crowd in Indianapolis, earning a 7-0 victory. Reggie Leach scored twice in 24 seconds in the second period in between first period goals from Wendel Clark and Brian Bellows and third-period tallies from Dan Boyle, Martin St. Louis and Bryan Trottier. Olaf Kolzig saved all 22 shots he faced. Chicago's Bill Ranford was far less effective.
Indianapolis 7, Chicago 0 (Indianapolis leads series 1-0)

Game 2
Twenty minutes from going down 2-0 in the series, the Hitmen got goals from captain Bobby Orr to tie the game at 2-2 and at 14:46 of the period got what proved to be the game-winner from Pierre Larouche as Chicago earned the split on the road and Indianapolis to return to Chicago knotted at a game apiece. Bill Ranford made 34 saves in the win. Olaf Kolzig saved 33 in the loss. Dan Boyle and Brent Sutter scored for the Engines. Robert Reichel tallied first for Indianapolis.
Chicago 3, Indianapolis 2 (Series tied 1-1)

Game 3
Indianapolis regretted letting Game 2 get away from them at home, and they came out in Chicago determined to take the series back. They were aggressive, locking up the Hitmen and holding them to only 16 shots. But James van Riemsdyk's went in at 14:26 of the third to break a 1-1 tie and give Chicago a tight victory and a series lead. Bill Ranford was terrific, stopping 29 of 30 shots in the win.
Chicago 2, Indianapolis 1 (Chicago leads series 2-1)

Game 4
Thirty shots in Game 3 weren't enough to get it done for Indianapolis. So they tried 50 - 53 to be exact - and that worked better, as Brian Bellows netted a pair en route to a series tying 4-1 win for the Engines. David Legwand tallied in the second and Geoff Sanderson added an empty netter for Indianapolis. Tony Tanti scored the lone goal for Chicago. Olaf Kolzig saved 27 for Indianapolis.
Chicago 4, Indianapolis 1 (Series tied 2-2)

Game 5
Brian Bellows finished the AHA's inaugural season second in goals and seventh in points. Yet somehow it always seemed he was left out of conversations about the top players. But Bellows took over Game 5, scoring two goals 13 seconds apart in the first three minutes of the second period to send what was a scoreless tie on to a 5-0 Indianapolis route that put them in the driver's seat for the series. David Legwand also scored in the second and Wendel Clark - with an assist from Bellows - and Igor Larionov tallied in the third. Olaf Kolzig stopped all 23 shots he faced.
Indianapolis 5, Chicago 0 (Indianapolis leads series 3-2)

Game 6
In the big moments, you need your big stars. And Alexei Yashin is that for Chicago. With his team down 3-1 in the second period of a do-or-die game, Yashin scored, following that goal with two in the third period to kick off a spectacular comeback by Chicago on home ice to force a deciding Game 7. Yashin, third in the league with 38 goals during the regular season, had been kept off the board in the series to this point after having scored 5 goals in the Eastern Conference Semifinal against Charlotte. Michel Goulet, Tony Tanti and Jyrki Lumme also scored for Chicago. Wendel Clark, Bryan Trottier, Martin St. Louis and Denis Potvin scored for Indianapolis in the loss.
Chicago 6, Indianapolis 4 (Series tied 3-3)

Game 7
At home in front of a rabid fan base, the Engines roared. Firing off 48 shots and getting fantastic work in net, Indianapolis advanced to the first AHA Cup Final with a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Hitmen, who two nights after a magical comeback couldn't repeat the feat. Brian Rolston scored the lone first period goal and Martin St. Louis and Peter Forsberg hit the net in the second before the Engines packed it in tight and locked it down. Olaf Kolzig stopped all 25 shots he faced for his third shutout of the series - and they'll need him to be on if they are to win the AHA Cup! Bill Ranford made 45 saves in the loss.
Indianapolis 3, Chicago 0 (Indianapolis wins series 4-3)

Western Conference Final Review

vs

Game 1
It looked as though Calgary was going to win the Western Conference's top seed until Wayne Gretzky got hurt. But now that he's back, albeit perhaps not 100 percent after an eye injury shelved him for two months, there's heightened anticipation as to whether San Diego can hold off the Stampede. In Game One, that answer was an emphatic NO! Gretzky scored and had an assist, but the star was Joe Watson, who scored one of the most unexpected hat-tricks you'll see, in a 5-0 Calgary shutout. Watson, a defenseman who scored 1 goal in 26 regular season games, scored late in the second and then twice within 40 seconds in the third period. Pit Martin scored the opening goal and Sean Burke stopped all 26 shots he faced as Calgary surged to the series lead.
Calgary 5, San Diego 0 (Calgary leads 1-0)

Game 2
If Calgary thought they were going to walk over San Diego after Game 1, they weren't paying attention all season. The Condors responded to their opening game thrashing with a reciprocal pounding, downing the Stampede 6-0 on the strength of four first-period goals. Sergei Federov, Mark Recchi, Dave Keon and Radim Vrbata each tallied in the first, and Vrbata and Charlie Simmer scored in the second before Sean Burke was pulled after 16 shots in favor of Glen Hanlon. Patrick Roy rebounded to save all 29 shots he faced for the Condors.
San Diego 6, Calgary 0 (Series tied 1-1)

Game 3
Seven minutes into the second period, Calgary led 3-0 on the strength of goals from Wayne Gretzky, Ed Jovanovski and semifinal hero Owen Nolan. But the Condors scored six straight from there, including two apiece from King Clancy and Ron Francis, as San Diego took a 2-1 series lead with a 6-3 victory in Calgary. Clancy was an absolute dynamo, scoring twice, assisting another and adding three hits and SEVEN blocked shots! Patrick Roy made 36 saves for San Diego. Glen Hanlon allowed five goals, saving 19 shots.
San Diego 6, Calgary 3 (San Diego leads 2-1)

Game 4
A series that had been about explosiveness turned into a chess match in Game 4, as Calgary looked for openings and San Diego seemed to be largely focused on not making a mistake. A methodical first period that saw 7 shots apiece was changed with 10 seconds left when Calgary's 8th shot - from Jari Kurri - hit the back of the net to give the Stampede a 1-0 advantage. Owen Nolan continued to build a playoff reputation with another goal, his eighth of the postseason, with 2:01 left in the second. And, after Charlie Simmer tallied with 8:33 left in the game, Calgary locked it down defensively and got a couple of great saves from Glen Hanlon to hold on for a 2-1 victory to even the series. Patrick Roy saved 18 in the loss for San Diego, which won 34 of 47 faceoffs but still managed to lose.
Calgary 2, San Diego 1 (Series tied 2-2)

Game 5
A hot goalie can steal a series, and right now Glen Hanlon is hot. Hanlon made 42 saves to make Calgary's three-goal second period stand up as the Stampede took a 3-2 series lead. Anze Kopitar, Gerard Gallant and Jari Kurri scored in a 2:16 stretch early in the second. The pressure is now all on San Diego, who have been pushed to the brink of elimination.
Calgary 3, San Diego 0 (Calgary leads series 3-2)

Game 6
The last thing Calgary wanted to let happen was to let the series go back to San Diego for a Game 7. And a nip-and-tuck Game 6 left it very much in question whether that would happen. Radim Vrbata scored his third goal of the series at 11:09 of the first to give the Condors a 1-0 lead. But Ed Jovanovski knotted the game at 18:05 and the sides would go to the first intermission tied at 1. Bob Pulford ripped off a slapper at 14:03 of the second to beat Patrick Roy and put Calgary up 2-1. The pace was measured, both sides looking for a crack - San Diego to tie it and stay alive, Calgary to get the insurance goal - and it cracked in favor of San Diego, when King Clancy took a beautiful feed from Charlie Simmer to beat Glen Hanlon and tie the game at 2. A game that had every feel of going to overtime didn't, though, when Valeri Kamensky jammed home a rebound at 16:47 of the third to put Calgary ahead, 3-2. San Diego would pressure but never get the great look they sought, and the Calgary Stampede would close it out, taking the game and the series to advance to the AHA Cup Final!
Calgary 3, San Diego 2 (Calgary wins series 4-2)

Alltime Hockey Association AHA Cup Finals
vs

Game One

The Calgary Stampede unleash 41 shots on Olaf Kolzig to take the series opener in the Best of 7 series. Wayne Gretzky and Valery Kamensky each had a goal and an assist for Calgary, which also got goals from Matt Carle and Sergei Gonchar. Peter Forsberg had the lone tally for Indianapolis.

Alltime Hockey Association AHA Cup Finals
vs

Game Two

The Calgary Stampede are looking to make short work of the Indianapolis Engines in the first AHA Cup Final, having won Game 1, 4-1, and coming out even more dynamically with a rousing 6-0
blanking of the Engines in Game 2.

In his best game since returning in the middle of the Eastern Conference semifinals after an eye injury cost him the last six weeks of the regular season. Wayne Gretzky picked up a goal and four assists to lead the Stampede. Calle Johansson scored twice and Todd Bertuzzi, Jari Kurri and Mike Krushelynski also tallied.

Engines goalie Olaf Kolzig has had a rough first two games, and it will be interesting to see if coach John Tortorella goes to Tuuka Rask for Game 3. But that won't fix the fact that the league's #2 offense has one goal in two games, though some of that is due to Glen Hanlon, who made 27 saves and has been solid.

Calgary 6, Indianapolis 0 (Calgary leads series 2-0)

Alltime Hockey Association AHA Cup Finals
vs

Game Three
The site of the series changed...the result didn't. The Calgary Stampede returned home up 2-0 in the series and the Indianapolis Engines weren't able to change the tide of the series before the hostile crowd, falling 3-0 for their second straight shutout loss. The Engines haven't scored since Peter Forsberg lit the lamp at 14:12 of the first period in Game One, the Engines' only goal of the series. Bob Pulford netted a pair and Owen Nolan kept up his fantastic postseason performance with his 9th goal of the playoffs. The Stampede are one win away from clinching the inaugural AHA Cup!

Calgary 3, Indianapolis 0 (Calgary leads series 3-0)

Alltime Hockey Association AHA Cup Finals
vs

Game Four
A game away from being swept and trailing 3-0 two minutes into the second period, the Indianapolis Engines came to life in Calgary. Brian Bellows scored to make it 3-1, and after Owen Nolan scored his 10th of the playoffs for Calgary Martin St. Louis scored to keep Indianapolis' hopes alive, the second period ending with them trailing 4-2. But after David Legwand brought Indianapolis within a goal, Bellows tied the score and then assisted Babe Pratt's game-winner to give the Engines a 5-4 victory and stave off elimination at least for a day.

I love this idea! I had a six team league to start with in FHM6, ATHL, and I deleted every single player off the six teams and imported each player manually and assigned them to teams named after their respective eras: 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 10s. If a player qualified for more than one decade I tried to put them in the one that made most sense or allowed for most competition. So Gretzky was on the 80s and Lemieux the 90s, for example. I had run seven seasons and was on season 8 when the file went corrupt and nothing I could do brought it back. I even designed custom home-and-away jerseys, expanded the league to 10 teams, etc. Hope yours continues to go well!

Alltime Hockey Association AHA Cup Finals
vs

Game Five
Indianapolis' late surge to stay alive in Game Four created hopes that perhaps they could prolong the series to an exciting conclusion in the AHA's inaugural season, even if they didn't win it. And they had another late rally in them. But it was too little, too late this time. Calgary scored three times in the first - including goals by Matt Carle and Jari Kurri 10 seconds apart - and tacked on a pair in the second, this time 33 seconds apart, before Indianapolis tried to fight back. The Engines scored twice late in the second to make it 5-2, but after Martin St. Louis made it 5-3 45 seconds into the third, Calgary locked down and secured the victory, giving Indianapolis only 6 shots the rest of the period.

The Calgary Stampede are the first Alltime Hockey Association Champions!

Indianapolis 5, Calgary 3 (Calgary wins series 4-1)

Thanks, sorry, had been away from this for a bit. But hope to pick it up and run with it again now that I have the draft issue sorted.

Well this is pretty absurd...league history shows the wrong champion. It lists the team with the best regular season record, not the team that won the championship. It's basically like declaring the Presidents Trophy winner the champion even if they lose in the playoffs. What a horrible glitch.

I've managed to get the wrong champion thing fixed and had to deal with the fact that players weren't importing right for the first amateur draft. So I'm going to just do a quick synopsis of the AHA's second season, the 2021-22 campaign, and then will pick up with the amateur draft and go from there hopefully without issue.
