How many teams do you start your league with?
Curious, I find it difficult to start with 30 teams and get into the fictional players. Too many teams for me.

Tried it all...

Good question...I've tried them all. I had a "one league per state league" to start which was way too big and while I had fun with it, it would have been better to have started with some type of regional league and then expand it over time to what I started with. I think overall it is always best to start very small and grow. |

I prefer 16 teams. Two subleagues with two divisions each. No DH.
With only 16 teams I feel that the league is small and friendly enough for me to get to know the individual teams and not be overwhelmed by billions of players. Also, I want to make keep computer processing times manageable. My computer is only a year and a half old, so I probably could handle lots more leagues, but still, too much of a good thing can be cumbersome. |

When I create leagues I go for twenty (one subleague, four divisions), but I'm also enjoying playing Japanese ball with twelve teams in two subleagues.

16. For me the fun of being in Japan and watching *** is that there are only 12 teams. Easy to get to know the players. Easy to get involved. Same idea if I'm going to play with fictional players.

8 teams and really enjoy this size as I'm getting to discover the players. No hurry to expand.

I like 2 divisions of 6-8 teams to start off with, simple reason two leagues I'm running at the moment are dynastys so it's easier to lay down a base story and history with a few teams to start of with.

I am a historical fictional simmer. I start in 1876 and go through baseball history using fictional players. Start with one league with 8 clubs, which then is contracted to 6 clubs, then expands and then go two major leagues and so on...

I put this poll out because I feel that this game is Great and there is not a right or wrong way to set up a universe. Other games force you to accept their format and schedules (replay type games). OOTP rocks!! I thought I was going to small at 16 teams in my majors until I saw that this seems to be the most common, albeit in a small sampling size.

Here, here!!!
I'm one of the spectator players. The type that likes to watch things unfold, become a fan of a team, a player, a manager, and follow the story that OOTP tells. Reading Dynasties is a lot of fun, especially with some of the talented writers we have around in the community, but when you go slow enough, OOTP does an outstanding job of turning pages of stories that are pure baseball. Gotta love it!!

The Federal Baseball League has been a 36 team, 2x3x6, setup since OOTP3, but in 2006 went to a 2x3x8 setup with one ML team in each of the 48 contiguous states. In 2007, though, the addition of feeders has required I reduce the setup back to the original 2x3x6 in order to keep yearly sim times during the 100-years-to-generate-history under 2.5 hours.
So. Other. 36, with 360 teams total in the Universe. I'd like 48, with 480 teams, but that will have to wait for a better computer.

Start small...Less is more...at least until you finally decide what you want to do.
I totally control all teams in my solo leagues. Lineups, pitching rotations, depth charts, team strategies, etc. This requires a lot of work. I have found 16 teams is much easier to administer and to get to know. My Alltime Allstar Association is my favorite league...only 16 teams...use V6.51...and it is a joy to administer and play...a very simple league and very simple interface. I had a V2006 league with 200 teams. My Ruthlandian-Tycobbian dynasty league. It worked me to death and was no fun because of the workload. I cut it down to 60 teams...still too much. I will probably go with 36 teams in V2007. I want to use V2007 as it is a superior game to V6.51 in many respects. So I am going to have to say goodbye to V6.51. 8 teams, all in one division, no playoffs.
I like to know as many of the players in my leagues as possible.

I start of small and it may sound crazy, but I do this because I want to feel if the player in my fictional league's suddenly came to life I could sit in the locker room with him and strike a conversation up because I know that much about him.
