Wow, hard to believe it's even possible, but Bobby Scales on the Tigers radio broadcasts may be as bad if not worse than Craig Monroe is on television. Just hire someone that went to broadcasting school and let the ex athletes play golf.

I know a lot of money is involved but do the Tigers really think Baez will A.) turn it around or B.) their best option??

Neither is the realistic response. We have a sucking black hole for several years to come.

This too shall pass. We are the proof.
(As I mentioned in the Mets thread, Gary Cohen spent that series trying to claim that Javy's 2021 infestation of Shea was "the best two months of his career". I think that is the very definition of "damning with faint praise", .899 salary-drive OPS or not.) Last edited by Amazin69; 04-09-2024 at 03:03 PM. |

Javey has pulled off that rare feat of having BA (.167) that exceeds his OBP (.161).
It was nice and all to see the Tigers pull out a win but doesn't overshadow the disappointment in seeing that the potential injury he had was nothing serious.

That stat also heavily implies that Javy has registered exactly 0 walks. True. (11 Ks to go with that 0.) However, David Bednar screwed everything up by hitting Javy with a pitch on Tuesday, so now he's hitting a sterling .152/.171/.152. Best .323 OPS in the League! |

Javy Baez just drew a walk.
That's the free big order of curly fries at Arby's right?

It took him two extra pitches to get that walk because he swung at two pitches in the opposite batter's box dirt. You have to work hard to walk this guy.

Todd Jones and Maury Povich in a golf cart at Talladega Superspeedway was the best half-inning of waffle story I've heard in a long time

Surprised that MLB actually refunded me the cost of the MLBat package($29.99). Really thought I would enjoy listening to the games on the radio while playing OOTP, but that was before I learned that they repeat the same commercials over and over and over each half inning. I started keeping a sheet of paper in front of me so I could keep track. One day I had heard the same Graybar Tools ad 15 times by the start of the 5th inning. I was emailing MLB after each half inning to give them updates. I heard an xfinity ad over 20 times during a 9 inning game.
Oh and I think the final straw was the Tigers having Craig Monroe on the radio this past weekend. Funny thing is, the Bobby Scales guy he was filling in for, may be even worse than Monroe. Scales has trouble finishing his thoughts. He gets started and then about a sentence in, it's like he hits a wall and has to think about what he was even talking about. Sometimes he does, but other times it's just a unmade point. He also is one of those tools that thinks being an analyst is simply describing the same play the play by play guy just described in a less coherent way. So a guy hits a single. Dickerson describes it. Scales then describes it again as he saw it. How these tools get hired is beyond me. I really think the best announcing takes place in the minor league. Reason being, they don't hire ex athletes as much. More often than not it's just 2 guys that went to broadcasting school. |

Cheer up, Tigers fans! When Oneil Cruz watched a 3rd strike go by in his first AB against the Mets last night, that gave him 30 whiffs in only 70 plate appearances. Even Javy has never K'd in 42.857142% of his PAs.
Cruz struck out again, later on. As this was Pittsburgh's 18th game of the season, this puts him on pace for 279 K's, all told! Sheesh. (He does have a sparkling .616 OPS and 71 OPS+, though. So Javy doesn't have all the bragging rights, as yet.) |

I pointed hit his minus dWAR, his career .710 OPS, and strikeout rate of 37%. Still got no traction that MAYBE Mr. De La Cruz MIGHT not be the next ARod/Ozzie combo. |

As much as I'd like to see him DFA'd, Javy just tied it up in the 8th.
