Okay...I couldn't do it. I couldn't pull the trigger on rebranding. The Salem Witches, despite being 100% pirates now, will remain at Puritan Park.

Bluffton looks for incremental improvements
After spending most of the seasons capitol on pitching, the Boomerangs situation was better overall than last year. Until a disappointing 2 losses to finish the season, the Booms were well ahead of their previous output. The Boomerangs GM has brought in a new statistician to try and find the specific points to make investments, and the team will also look to fine-tune their strategies to better match their players.

Finally! I get my "Our League" debut! Andy Pafko, Gene Garber, Rick Reed, and the rest of the New York Patriots will look to make some noise as a newly-promoted club and take down the "Our League" Bronze 240 title

Looks like Salem is in a division with 3 of 5 teams from Our League. Best of luck to all the fans in Hamilton and Cooper!
This should be a fun year, even though I have benched my best pitcher and am horrified to see what the future looks like. The diamond card I finally saved enough money to replace him with emerged with a "thud" last year...let's hope he does better this season... (update - okay, "diamond" Cooper got the opening day win.)

Yeah, I have face to face gaming tonight and Wednesday night and have to prep for the Wednesday game tomorrow, so the Boomerangs will not get a lot of attention either. Luckily, I suppose, I don't have enough PP to have to make any recruitment decisions!

Need volunteers
With all of my teams in one level, silver, I will need somebody to either send me snips of the team schedules to compile or post them yourself. I will also need snips of the team vs team results for the standings as we go along. For diamond, I will just need the final records at the end of the year, since there are.not four teams. Use kidheckett@gmail .com. Thanks.

Just four "Our League" games this month in B240 against the Asheboro Road Dogs, who may be one of the few teams we will be remotely competitive against this season.

The Green Lake Cowboys capped off their best-ever season by making it to the World Series in Silver .287! Unfortunately we lost, but it was a fair matchup pitting the two top teams in the league during the season against each other. So how did we get there?
Team Stats: The Cowboys were dominant on offense, finishing in 1st place in the NC in Runs and Batting Average (over .300), and in some other categories I'm not remembering. I also bought a bunch of pitchers during the year, and we ended up 1st in Bullpen ERA. The focus on contact offense led to some other areas hurting, like Home Runs, Starter ERA, and Defensive Efficiency/Zone Rating. MVP: Rod Carew ended up being the MVP of the NC, despite being a bronze card. He led the league in AB, Runs, Hits, AVG (.344 I think), and OBP. Other Notables: Kirby Puckett led the NC in All-Star voting, but must have finished the second half of the year more modestly. I moved him to RF which he plays better than his natural CF, and he led the team in HR and was near the top of the league in RBIs. Bill Madlock also had some great hitting stats, but was predictably atrocious in 3B defense, coughing up 20+ errors. Playoffs: The highlight of the playoffs was definitely the divisional matchup against the Bossier Parish Cavaliers, who were our division rival all season. We went down 0-2 in the series at home, then stormed back to win it 3-2 in a reverse sweep. The final game even had us getting a needed 3 or 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth! I think Ichiro got the walk-off single to win it. The downfall of our playoff run was definitely the bullpen, which was a strength during the season. Guys were regularly getting shelled for multiple hits and home runs in the later innings. Steve "Blown Save" Bedrosian was particularly bad. In the end, the Portland Brew Jays were the better team in the season and the final, and fair play to them because they didn't look like they spent much money, and may have been F2P like us. I'm just disappointed because that may have been the Cowboys best shot at a title. On to Gold! Last edited by Argonaut; 04-29-2019 at 03:05 PM. |

I'd like to join the party
I have a team that fits the bill: The Frankenthal Retros, consisting of players up until 1989 and is playing in Iron .248 Another team that plays without buying points is my Frankenthal Brewers team in Iron .245 and is exclusively playing with Milwaukee Brewers players, but since ther isn't much supply of Brewers we have to play with Live Cards as well

Sorry for doublepost, but I can't make this up. Same series with Asheboro, Joaquin Andujar throws a Maddux! I promise I'm not showing this to show the person in charge of Asheboro up, I just genuinely found this interesting.

I like the Salem name and the logo is a dandy. However, the mood in the Keystone State is one of dismay. The Ottsville Melvins front office is crestfallen. It seems they had turned over the deciding town council vote on the proposal for a new stadium, hoping to lure you in. The Virginville Streetwalkers will be pounding the pavement for looking for another suitor. The Orrstown Bobbies are rumored to be turning toward luring an NHL team. The Birdsboro Plovers have flown the coop. The Collegeville Scholars are heading to grad school instead. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. |
