McAuliffe would score from first on a throwing error by Wynn as he was fielding a single by Northrup. Northrup went on to score on a Freehan groundout to third. Ron Perranoski took the mound for the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh. In the top of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out. Northrup lined to third for the second out. Gates Brown flew out to center to retire the side. In the bottom of the eighth, Chuck Seelbach took the mound for the Tigers. Nelson hit a solo home run. The two teams combined for 22 hits in the game. The Rangers won despite committing three errors.
