STANDINGS AS OF 2023-24 DEADLINE:

I love seeing Indianapolis' bad drafting backfire right in their faces. Remember guys, be smart when drafting.

FINAL 2023-24 SEASON STANDINGS:

WHA to expand to Charlotte, Salt Lake City for 2024-25

The WHA has confirmed the 2 expansion teams will be in Charlotte, and Salt Lake City. The teams have also released their identities as well.

After the Carolina Hurricanes went back to Hartford, they decided for logistical purposes, to move their AHL team to the Mohegan Sun Arena. After that happened, Michael Khan, owner of the AHL Charlotte Checkers, placed a bid for a WHA franchise. He got his wish, and he got to bring the Checkers name over to the WHA. The new Charlotte Checkers will remain in the Spectrum Center in downtown Charlotte.

After seeing the potential the WHA had, Greg Miller, owner of the NBA's Utah Jazz, decided he wanted to see if hockey would work in Salt Lake City. The Utah Vipers will play in the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.

THE WORCESTER BOBCATS ARE CHAMPIONS AGAIN!

This is their third cup in five years. I think we are witnessing a dynasty.

AWARDS:

I was surprised to not see Howard Rivett be nominated for the Gerry Cheevers Award. It turns out he only played 26 games, because Worcester made a trade in the offseason with Indianapolis to get Emil Sjoblom. Sjoblom ended up becoming the starting goaltender for the Bobcats, and he definitely delivered.

CHANGES FOR 2026-27 SEASON:

Very unexpected, but after the announcement of the relocation of the AHL's San Antonio Rampage to the recently renovated JQH Arena in Springfield, MO for the 2027-28 season, Spurs Sports & Entertainment wanted to keep hockey in San Antonio. After negotiating with the AHL and WHA, they were allowed to move the Rampage to the WHA, which will technically make the Springfield franchise an expansion team. They will remain in the 16,000 seat AT&T Center in downtown San Antonio.

Reflecting on the career of Howard Rivett

9/28/26

After a devastating car crash left him hospitalized for 2 months with a fractured skull, among other injuries, Bobcats goalie Howard Rivett has decided to cut his career short to prevent further damage to his body.

"It sucks that my career ended like this, but I felt that it was the right thing to do." said Rivett in an interview with 22 News. "Plus, I'm getting old, I was going to have to retire at some point withing the next couple years." he added.

When asked about how he thinks his retirement will affect the Bobcats, he said; "I don't think me retiring with affect the team at all. Emil (Sjoblom) is in his prime, and he has done well as the starting goalie the past couple years."

Here are his career stats:

At the time if his retirement, he led the league in wins (228, just 6 ahead of 2nd place Gary Lewicki. This record is guaranteed to be broken this upcoming season), and he was third in career shutouts (22).

STANDINGS AS OF 2026-27 TRADE DEADLINE:

Surprising to see San Antonio doing well in year one.

Norfolk to join WHA 2 years early?

Hopping from a different league to the WHA seems to be a trend lately.

The Norfolk Admirals are rumored to join the WHA 2 years earlier than expected. They recently renovated and expanded the Norfolk Scope from 8,000 seats to 16,000 seats to prepare for the merger between the WHA and ECHL in 2029-30, but apparently they are not able to wait, as the owners, the city of Norfolk themselves, continue to lose money in the dying ECHL.

FINAL 2026-27 STANDINGS:

As expected San Antonio goes mediocre and lands the first overall pick. Good job.

Norfolk to join WHA for 2027-28 season

The rumors are true. The Norfolk Admirals will be joining the WHA 2 years early. They will also be changing their logo and changing a few colors. They will remain in the recently expanded Norfolk Scope in downtown Norfolk.
