Question for logo designers?
Does/would it bother you if your logos are used in fictional leagues in quickstarts?
I ask because I find quite alot of your logos perfect for fictional leagues and actually already released a quickstart with some in them. Now I'm wondering if I stepped on any toes. I did give credit when I knew who designed it, but often I don't know who it was. |

I can only speak for myself, but generally ask before you use and give credit when you use them. However, most of the work I've done is really not work, not original, or otherwise so I personally have no problem with people using them without asking or giving credit. I'd rather have them used than have them collect dust and never see the light of day.

I agree with no pepper. I have no problem having people use the ones I create, as most of my logos are not original. Besides, that's why I put them on my site in my sig, for everyone to enjoy!

Don't know that I've got any of yours, but I'd like to give credit if due. |

I echo the sentiments made previously. I consider myself a hacker more than a designer of logos. I've started a collection of them that's noted in my sig. Feel free to use any of them.

I've spent most of today going thru the logos forums and designer sites trying to figure out who made what from my large collection and I've come to the conclusion YOU ALL HACK EACH OTHER!!! |

The logos I design -- whether they may be original works and/or inspiration drawn from the work of others -- are intended for the benefit of the community as a whole. While several of my designs have come from direct requests of members, I've never considered those logos to be for the privileged use of those individuals and nor have those members asked for such exclusive use. So, 'what the h*** are you actually saying, StorminZ?' I am saying that my logo designs are open for use by whoever needs a logo. Oh, but there is the fine print.
My only caveat ... speaking for myself ... while it's not necessary that 'I' have to be identified as the creator on any logo, if credit is to be given at all, then it should be properly given. The key point here is that you don't have to mention my name at all if it's one of my designs ... that's not important ... but if a name is to be mentioned, give credit where credit is due. That aside, I also anticipate that bits or pieces of my logos will show up in other logo modifications and I am quite ok with that. As I have been inspired by others, I think it a nice compliment for one designer to draw upon -- even borrow pieces from -- the work of another. But I harken back to my caveat above. Again, I do what I do out of enjoyment in serving the many members of this community. The biggest payback is not in money, but in the appreciation shown by the members themselves. Your question is respectful and I thank you for taking the initiative to ask it. So, use away, I say!!!! Last edited by StorminZ; 06-13-2006 at 04:12 PM. |

Another thanks StorminZ!!
I do have at least one of yours in mind as well!! You guys are making this easy! Just a note to all you talented artists, if I use some of your logos in a quickstart, I will of course include a readme with credits given and perhaps links to your pages if you have one. |

"My" logos are nothing that couldn't be done by anyone else, and I don't mind if anyone uses them. I don't need any credit for them as most of them are just stuff I put together from various other places.

The point of making hacklogos here, is for people to use freely. I suppose if someone has a problem with people using their logos, or changing their logos, they need to go to the sportslogos forum and start charging. I've only seen it once, so far, that someone had changed the names on my MLB logo pack, early on, and then called it their logo pack. They gave me credit in their post, so I didn't bother with it. It just reminded me of the facepack fiasco....I kinda understand what the facepack developers were griping about now. Don't collect a bunch of peoples' hackwork and then call it "My logo pack" or whatever. If someone is going to put together something like that....cross your T's and dot your I's. Be a little respectful. Last edited by truthserum; 06-15-2006 at 06:58 PM. |
