I also begin my post with a question: wherefore art thou oldtimer?

Frogs are in P468 this week. Early analysis sez this will be a bit tougher sledding than last week. The Frogs share the NC West with 2 other former PL champs. The New Image Blaze have 6 titles at the Perfect level and the Texas Freedom have a pair of their own. The Bronx Bombers are also in this division, but not those Bronx Bombers.

The NC Central is wide open in the sense that there are no former PL champs in here--so I can't be bothered to look at/provide any more details about them.

The NC East has the Goon Island Hamburgers (2 PL titles) and some other teams. You know Goon Island--the creepy waving hamburger man that everyone loves. I actually expect one of those "other teams" to win the NC East (will all due deference to Goon Island). Jetsam City Flotsam is one of those hard luck also-rans and have been winning around 100 games for many weeks, so it's only a matter of time for them before breaking on thru to the other side.

The Frogs should still be the odds-on favorite to represent the NC in the PL Series, but the margin is close enough that a little RNG here and a down year there could make it rain tadpoles.

The AC, summarized a bit more briefly here than the NC was, contains 4 teams that own PL titles. The Blue Farm Bombers (2 titles), Gashouse Gorillas (6 titles), and Towers of the Dub AA $0 (1 title) all share the AC Central. Gashouse and Blue Farm are both off to fast starts and both have formidable rosters. Either could represent the AC with pride in the PL Series and give the Frogs all they could handle, and then some. The Towers of the Dub AA $0 clearly think it's important to proclaim to the PT'verse that no money was spent. Dub doesn't have the firepower that Gashouse or Blue Farm has, but Dub will be trying to max-defense themselves into a Wild Card spot (I mean, Garry Maddox is playing in LF, so clearly prioritizing defense here).

The other PL title winner is the New York Highlanders (one-time winner) and they will roam freely in the AC West. Looking at their team history, they've had some nice tanking back down to diamond in their past, but appear to have decided they want to be up in Perfect now (or are being held there by the devs under the penalty of death for tanking anymore).

P430: New League, Who Dis?

The Huntley Red Raiders--who, inspired by the Gonzaga Bulldogs, now feature Clayton Kershaw in the starting rotation, bumping Rube Marquard to the bullpen and Vida Blue to the reserve roster--are in P430 this week.

In a change from the previous few seasons, Huntley is not in a division with another traditional powerhouse; instead, in the P430 AC, each division is home to one multi-Perfect League championship-winning squad: the NYC Isotopes (4-time PL champs, most recently back-to-back in 2061 and 2062) in the AC East; your Red Raiders in the AC Central; and fellow 8-time PL champion Spokane RipTide (most recently, like Huntley, in 2064) in the AC West.

At least judging by PL championships, the P430 NC has a clear favorite: the NC West 6-time PL champion Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Actually, looking at the team history, these Roaches just might be the overall P430 favorites, having won all 6 PL championships within the previous 9 seasons--2057, 2058, 2060, 2061, 2063, and 2065. They boast one of the more unique rotations I've seen in a Perfect League powerhouse: Lefty Grove, Rube Marquard, Vida Blue, Bob Feller, and Mike Soroka. The bullpen features a mere 5 pitchers, with Christy Mathewson and Cy Blanton doing the heavy lifting in this young season, Dennis Eckersley and Kirby Yates not far behind, and Dutch H Leonard potentially being a lefty specialist, based on his scant 2.1 IP in the first month of this season.

For a team with only 10 pitchers, the Cockroaches lineup doesn't feature as much platooning as I would have suspected; C Josh Gibson, SS/2B Phil Rizzuto, 3B Luke Appling, LF Mickey Mantle, and RF Hugh Duffy all play every day. The platoons are Bill Terry/Dick Allen (1B), John Henry Lloyd/Cal Ripken Jr (2B/SS), Prince Fielder/Nelson Cruz (DH), and Lenny Dykstra/Rickey Henderson (CF).

I focus this much on one NC team because only one other even has a single Perfect League championship, the NC Central Seattle Pilots (2064).

Good luck to everyone in 2066!

got a super tough draw with division, stuck with the Bellevue Black Knights running my division. On top of that, the diamonds I need to the David Cone mission are AWOL from the AH and I'm currently starting a 99 Walter johnson in his place, which is not ideal. If you or a loved one owns 95 David Cone i'd appreciate it if you'd sell me it. Otherwise, Ted Williams putting up a stellar year and everyone else is doing their part. I wish Greg Maddux would get his stuff together before his struggles avalanche into real problems. Good luck to everyone this week

My Chiles have been pretty irrelevant; 14 years in PL, 1 year in the playoffs. 11 years under .500, but not bad enough to relegate.

I won a 4 pack tourney overnight and pulled a Perfect All Star Scherzer. My pitching staff has been ass since I went to Perfect and he will help immensely.

White Tigers started 1-8. Boo!

Since then we've gone 20-8 and just got into the second wild card slot. Yay!

Corsairs made their first PL playoffs last season (was the first time all six of my teams made the playoffs) as a wildcard and got off to an 11-24 start this season in a much tougher division with two multiple PL championship winners.

The good news is the Tigers are likely to win 100+ games. The bad news is four other teams are likely to do better.

Last week we had 12 gold players, this week down to 7.

Gold Sisler replaced by Diamond Sisler then by 96 Cobb. I like a player who can steal 100 bases a week with 85% success rate!

Gold Fingers replaced by Diamond Fingers who brought along Vida Blue 98 as a bonus and moved Diamond Bumgarner to long relief replacing Gold Maddux.

Gold Suzuki replaced by Diamond Suzuki because who wouldn't?

Gold Pedro Borbon replaced by Diamond Chad Green, because why not?

Competitive League

The Guardians are in a very fun league, locked in a neck and neck divsion race with the NY Flyers. Both teams seem assured of a playoff spot, but one will settle for the WC. Across the way in the NL, Waffletown has the wild card lead stuck in a division with a whale, with a couple other whales in the NL.

The team has added not only Yankees legend Joe DIMaggio, but also his friend Snuffy Stirnweiss in a package deal that reportedly saved the team on the transaction. "Our Scouts liked Joe and they liked Snuffy as well. Given their interest in playing together, it was a great fit as they accepted a team friendly deal. It was the right move at the right time." DiMaggio has already paid dividends with a fast start and all-star nod, hitting .314 with 14 HRs for Angel Fire.

I added a special edition Dick Allen and put Hank Greenberg up for auction, at the going rate. Guy can hit.

P430: How's It Playing Out?

So, is P430 living up to preseason expectations? Yes! ...and no!

As you'll recall, each AC division is home to a multi-Perfect League championship-winning squad, so they were the clear favorites. Well, fortunately for my sanity, the AC Central Huntley Red Raiders are leading the division as expected and currently have a solid lock on the #1 playoff seed. Likewise, the AC West is topped by the Spokane RipTide, who are currently slotted into the #2 seed.

But the AC East is a surprise! The 4-time PL champion NYC Isotopes are in third place, 5 games out, trailing both the second-place Portland Trash Pandas--a relatively new PT squad that debuted in 2053 and has been in Perfect since 2059, making the playoffs 4 times, including each of the last 2 seasons--and the first-place Boston Ancients, a team with a lone Bronze medallion that has been in Perfect since 2050 but only made the playoffs 6 times in those 16 seasons, albeit twice in a row. The Ancients feature a 4-man rotation of Blue, Gibson, Plank, and Gomez and an 8-man bullpen in which everyone has gotten about equal work (fewest innings: 32.1; most innings: 43.1). The offense is lead by Live Mike Trout, Lenny Dykstra, TOTY Marcus Semien, and Harry Heilman.

Over in the NC, the clear favorites were the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, and while they lead the NC West and are currently in the #1 NC playoff spot, that lead is a scant 1 game over the surprise NC Central-leading Durham Bulls. The Bulls have 2 Diamond championships to their name and, after "mysteriously" being relegated from Perfect with records of 47-115 in 2040, 43-119 in 2053, 45-117 in 2055, and 43-119 in 2058, are now in their sixth straight Perfect season after their second Diamond championship, making the playoffs in 3 of the previous 5 seasons. The Bulls have a solid Koufax/Seaver/Mungo/Kershaw/Brown rotation and a lineup led by C Adley Rutschman, LF Ty Cobb, and 3B Frank Baker.

In his first season as a Red Raider, Clayton Kershaw has been all right (10-6, 3.55 ERA, 3.41 FIP, 119 ERA+, 2.8 WAR), but that's OK, because Rube Marquard is thriving in the bullpen (31 G, 46.0 IP, 3-0, 4 SV, 1.37 ERA, 1.72 FIP, 309 ERA+, 2.0 WAR). Offensively, TOTY Christian Yelich is tearing it up (.346/.429/.586, 177 OPS+, 4.6 WAR), with Cash, Appling, Bonds, Brett, Griffey Jr, and Boudreau an able supporting cast.

The Frogs have been fighting their own tendency to drop 1-run games this week as enemy #1. The squad is 13-14 in 1-run games and 80-25 overall. So, if the game is a bit cushier than being decided by a single run, then the Frogs are a respectable 67-11 in those games.

As it stands, the Frogs have the top record in P468 (finally!) and have been leading in run differential for quite a while now (+396). As predicted, the Blue Farm Bombers (77-26, +257) and the Gashouse Gorillas (77-28, +273) are having a pretty epic battle in the AC Central. Also as predicted, the Jetsam City Flotsam have emerged as one of the more dangerous contenders to the NC throne (74-30, +232) and lead the NC East by a cool 19 games. The New Image Blaze (70-34, +145) has been outperforming their pythag by a handful of games while the two-time PL champ Texas Freedom (56-50, +38) haven't been the factor that I thought they might be at the beginning of the week. Despite the New Image Blaze outdoing their pythag by 3 games and the Frogs playing beneath their pythag by 5 games, these slimy-go-lucky critters still hold a healthy 9.5-game divisional margin in the NC West. One would hope this margin will continue to grow.

Standouts for the Frogs this week?

Cap Anson is having an MVP caliber season (.315/.404/.569) and leads the NC in batting WAR (4.7). Anson was also the top vote-getter in the All-Star Game. Voters must have overlooked the fact that Anson was decrying P468 for allowing black players to participate. Too soon?

Pitching-wise, Record Breaker 100 Pedro Martinez is trying to top a pretty epic 2065 with an epic-er 2066. Recall that Pedro just missed out on winning 30 games last week. Well, right now he's leading the conference in all 3 pitching triple crown categories (18-1, 2.08 ERA, 180 K). He started the ASG for the NC and got rocked for 2 ER in 1 IP, but then rebounded with a 1-hit/13-K performance immediately after the break. My dude thinks he's PEAK Pedro or something, but I'll take it.

P430: That'll Do, Red Raiders...That'll Do

The last time I checked the Huntley Red Raiders (Thursday evening), the team was 82-22. I just logged in for the first time since, and...yeah, OK, good show, fellas. I know when I'm not needed.

Also, I believe all my talk about the Boston Ancients and Portland Trash Pandas inspired the NYC Isotopes, just as my examination of the Durham Bulls motivated the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. So, you're welcome, guys!

This week’s theme for my 3 teams, Easier division -Competitive league!

P444: Last week the Doubledays won their division by one game on the last day of the season. This season we already clinched the NC Central by 45+ games. Being in a weak division has given the Doubledays the current #1 seed at 107-27, leading by 7 games. But top regular season record does not equal championships or even a playoff series win. Here is a list of the Perfect title prior champions by division:
AC East:
Fresno Losers -11
Denver Doggos-9
AC Central:
Wonder Wharf Wonder Dogs-7
AC West:
NONE
NC East:
Aliquippa Quips-6
Cincinnati Reds-2
Mocosloco Green Sox-2
NC Central:
Doubledays -7
NC West:
London Ocelots-2
Redondo beach Rockets-2

Fresno and Denver have the toughest division draw as one will have to be a wildcard. Wonder Wharf should have an easy time getting to the AC Championship series, but the winner of the Fresno - Denver series should represent the AC. Doubledays should be the #1 seed but the Quips and Ocelots poise a challenge for the NC crown.

P426: The Woodpeckers are leading the NC Central by 11 ½ games. Here is a list of the Perfect title prior champions by division:
AC East:
Great Lake Squirrels-5
AC Central:
Seoul Paw Sox-10
Morder Mayhem-3
AC West:
NONE
NC East:
NONE
NC Central:
WoodPeckers-1
NC West:
Missouri Legends-2

There are very few Perfect titles in the 429. Seoul Paw Sox are highly highly highly favored to win their 11th Perfect title.

P488: The Owlz are 24 games up in the NC East. Another division crown and playoff series is expected as the Owlz seek their first Perfect title. Here is a list of the Perfect title prior champions by division:
AC East:
South Side Crimson-2
AC Central:
LA Kings-1
AC West:
Diamond Street Strays-1
NC East:
NONE
NC Central:
Parish Who Dats-9
Toledo Mud Hens-2
NC West:
SDCA Los Padres-1
Chicago White Sox-2

Parish Who Dats are the biggest challenge in the 488 as they seek Perfect title #10.

P430: Thanks for All the "Help," Coach

So, since this morning's post, when I discovered my team had gone 28-1 between my log-ins and yet I decided to tweak things a bit anyway, here's how the Huntley Red Raiders have fared. Jeez, guys, I can take a hint.

The Hamtramck Tigers opened September with a 1-game lead for 2nd wild card over the San Bernardino 66ers. San Bernardino is a new team, just 10 weeks old and has made the playoff every week and won it all 5 times. So, if I told you the Tigers are 8-8 in September you might think they were on their way out. Luckily, though, the lead has increased to 3.5 games and the Oracle says the Tiger odds are 94.2% to make the playoffs. That means we would face either 15-time Perfect League Champion B team (currently 2nd place in its division) OR Portland Piranhas who have never won even 1 Perfect ring, but are 5.5 games ahead of B team in that same division.
