Franchise Stars Roster

Exploring doing this and what it would take to make it work. The lack of the ability to import from a database hurts, and the inability to even export a player from one league and import into another makes it even harder.

Doing this is really a matter of data entry. But I LOVE cross-era, all-time sports universes, so I'm contemplating giving this a shot.

The test run is going to be the 8 franchises with the most Stanley Cups: Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Boston, Chicago, Edmonton, Pittsburgh and the New York Islanders. I'll work them and see what happens. If it works well then I'll proceed.

Choosing Rosters

Using hockey-reference.com's Point Shares system, I'll take the following:

Starting Roster

Top 4 at LW, RW, C
Top 6 at D
Top 2 at G
Next 8 best forwards regardless of position
Next 4 best defenders
Next 2 goalies

This provides a healthy reserve roster, room for trades and also will let users swap out players if they don't like the guys placed as starters in this system.

Ratings
Each player's starting rating will be from their "average" season, which will be based on Point Shares/Yrs with franchise. However, their potential ratings will be based on their best season. This will allow for growth and development in a franchise setting as opposed to just single-season use.

Starting age will be entered as their rookie season age to give players the most potential longevity.

So for example, my alltime favorite player, Mike Bossy. Bossy amassed 110.9 point shares over 10 seasons, an 11.1 average. His most average season based on that was 1985-86. So Bossy at the start in this set will have his ratings from the 1985-86 season and be 21 years old, his age in his real rookie season of 1977-78.

But his offensive and defensive potentials will be based on his best season, his 14.1 in 1978-79.

There's no timeline on this, just an idea and I'll see how fast it progresses.
