Eastern block players were always able to be drafted. It was just really hard to sign them. that's why in the early 90's you saw a lot of really good Russian players get drafted in rounds 9, 10, 11... because there was no gaurentee they'd actually be able to play for your team.

The way it works now, the AI cheats a little bit by selecting those players if there's no other draftable alternative available. It'd be a little messy to fix (and, to an extent, replicates the way teams in that era would use late draft picks on those guys), so I've been working around it by padding the drafts out in the affected years so it doesn't happen as much. Which years were you seeing it in?

Is there no way to let everyone draft them but just not allow to sign them until iron curtain is lifted?

It's me dredging up old issues again.
This happens to me in the 1983 draft. I like the solution of being able to draft iron curtain players but not sign them until the curtain is lifted. |
