Well, I think there can be a middle ground between socialism and this...

Of course, this is just a great opportunity to pull out a Scrooge McDuck reference. I couldn't pass up the opportunity,

How about we steer things back away from class warfare though...it's pretty clear that the sellers and the buyers are naturally going to have a difference of opinion on this.

What missions are people working toward? I'm still looking for Michael Fulmer, Jose Urena, a reasonably-priced Chien-Ming Wang etc. As a bargain shopper, I was heartened to see a 900/1000 Jose Urena go unsold recently.

Personally, I don't really like the collections since many of the players in the AH are now overpriced.

However, bhbomber in my Gold league completed 100 missions and will most likely win the Gold crown.

I am not sure how he did it, but the best way was to buy up as many bronze players and below before it started.

Again, price your cards at whatever you want, as long as people are willing to pee away their PP it's good business, right?

And I was already worried this thread wouldn't turn ugly in the first 25 posts like any other thread around...

hey thats me! thank you. i have been collecting all the cards since the day of launch in that account. didn't have many diamonds at all except some Dodgers and all the LIVE.

so when the missions came out I only needed to pay up for a few cards to complete the Griffey and Appling/Walsh missions. Had what I needed for the other missions. I won't ever complete the remainder--its the 5 World Series and the Combining Ruth that I am missin

I have bought the two SE cards for the WS collections I am missing and am looking for the other 2 SE that i dont have (Leibrandt and Gibson).

With one of the diamond packs I received as a reward i got a 100 Schilling. and a LIVE diamond. so I put schilling on the Special Editions team.

Nice pull!

I thought I had been lucky pulling a couple of LIVE diamonds out of my handful of reward standard packs so far, but most teams could use a 100 Schilling I'd imagine.

"what they have always sold for" is irrelevant when the card changes in value. A card is no longer just a 55 rated iron that no one ever needs, it's now 1/10 of a card worth 20K.

Pretty common in a trading card game. There can be a card that is barely used and sells for $2, then a new card is released that combos well with it making everyone want the first card to play with so the price shoots up to match demand.

I don't know, alot of the SE cards are pretty crappy. The rewards in many cases do not justify the price.

Fortunately, no one is forcing you to pay the price. You can always just walk away.

Playing this game lets you see supply and demand in action. In the first several weeks after launch of this game, the AH was an inefficient market --- there were a lot of good deals to be found because people had not yet discovered the "killer cards" --- cards for each position that dramatically overperformed their overall rating. The other thing is that people spent much of their PP on ripping packs, increasing the supply of cards offered on the AH.

Several weeks into the game, the "killer cards" at each level are pretty much universally known. As everybody wants a "Lou Boudreau" or a "Johnny Pesky" or a "Greg Maddux" on their team (for example), the prices on these cards have gone through the roof. Also, people are upgrading their roster one position at a time --- so they want to find their cards on the AH rather than ripping packs so much.

The introduction of collection missions have thrown another wrench in the works.

Note, however, that there are some good (but not killer) cards on the AH, that are NOT part of collections, that you can get a good price on. It is all based on supply and demand; it's just that now the AH is a significantly more efficient market.

Agreed, I already went that route in most cases. For a really good SE it might be worth the price but it seems every card is priced like it's the only card you need....

I agree and I'm not buying them, but a lot of people play the game for reasons other than trying to get to perfect and make the best possible team they can. Maybe these special cards are their favorite player or fit a theme they want, so there is still a market for those cards, just a different group of buyers.

Well, I understand it - I have about 30 thousand here from 1888 to present.

edit: I guess I don't see it as the same thing. I'd never buy another baseball card again if I knew they disappear into dust in 2-3 years. I kind of view this as a game.

Well, for me it's the collecting part that is fun. I look forward to starting all over again once this season has played out. Maybe I'm nuts, but that's what I enjoy.

Not nuts at all. Collecting just for the sake of collecting can be fun. And no it's not hording.

I'm already planning out in my head the collecting strategy and themes I'll be doing for Perfect Team in OOTP21.

Before Missions started, I collected as many LIVE Rangers, Blue Jays, Padres, and Orioles as I could. Not in a rush to buy Machado, Tatis, Vlad Jr. and Ken Giles to round out the Blue Jays and Padres. But I've completed the Rangers and Orioles.

Kind of disappointed that the Orioles reward is actually better than the Rangers one. Nick Markakis is a useable card in RF, but the Julio Franco and Ken Hill cards for the Rangers are awful. Even in the Gold Pack attached to the Rangers set netted me an 80 OVR LIVE Gold that was only good for quickselling.

So I guess in summary I'm disappointed as a Rangers fan.

One thing I'm not in love with about these missions is how the brand new LIVE cards change the requirements for each team set each week. You can be one card away, then a team adds 3 scrubs to the roster and now people are squatting on those cards. I get it--those guys are on the team now, but I'm not sure the goalposts should be moving for the missions. I'd prefer they lock in place the cards needed at the time a mission is published. I mean if I pony up for a 20K card and he gets traded to a different team that I wasn't working on the collection for, I'd probably be pretty mad about that also.
