apparently Stuff is very important (quisenberry)
(sorry i posted this in wrong thread previously)
I have been playing dan quisenberry 1982 all star card. Amazed that his overall rating is only a 64 Ratings are: 64 overall 34 stuff 78 movement 97 control (highest i have seen) groundball submarine 86-88 mph Would you have guessed his overall rating is 64? Anyone else play him? Cheap pick up to try him out. I guess I still don't grasp how STUFF, MOV Control work together. in limited bronze league action 50.1 IP 2.9 BB/9 (huh?) 3.9 K/9 12.2 H/9 .4 HR/9 I'll keep playing for the next couple weeks. |

A bronze card is doing well in a bronze league.

Can you post a quick image of your card.
My 1982 card looks a bit different. Essentially, he can hold his own in the early leagues. We still have the 66 card on a Silver team and he is doing fine. I have seen one of his cards all the way to Diamond/Perfect but that is way past where he can hold his own. He is like a bronze Greg Maddux. The same low stuff/high movement/high control applies to a few more pitchers that you can find all the way to Diamond/Perfect on many teams: Steve Howe, Brett Anderson, Pedro Borbon, Gene Garber, … They will do the job as long as you support them with great defense.

You are correct. I just checked and the card he is referring to is from PT19 not PT20.

I’m not surprised.

I have the 1982 all-Star card as well. I thought he would be good with good Movement and great control as well as being a Groundball Pitcher. He was pretty good for me in Bronze, but once I got to Silver he was terrible. he did not walk many, but he started giving up a bunch of hits in Silver. After 2 seasons in Silver and 1 in Gold I finally placed him on my reserve roster, and have not used him since.
I have had a couple other pitchers that have good Movement and good or great Control, but low Stuff, and they also seem to struggle as you move up levels. They can be very good at lower levels, but once you get to Gold they start having issues, and they are terrible above Gold. |

You can get away with less stuff, the better your defense is, and also by lowering your ballpark factors for AVG. That approach is actually fairly solid up through diamond in my experience
