Pitching VORP Leaders through 2086

I have been updating the RL HOFer, 3 time HOFer, and first Ballot lists on page 6. The players who have been added since the "halfway point" are in separate lists below the originals.

Pitching VORP is the first category where all of the top 10 players have been inducted into the HOF. I have included the top 20 singe season VORP totals, also.

Pitching WAR Leaders through 2086

Lots of duplication, of course, but some differences between this and the VORP chart.

Class of 2088: Rixey, Cabrera

Eppa Rixey was the 15th player chosen in the 2061 draft. He went to the Mets.

Rixey is the 8th straight player to be inducted in his first year of HOF eligibility.

Rixey had a Charlie Ferguson type start to his career. In March of 2062, he underwent radial nerve decompression surgery and missed 5 months.

In April of 2063, he underwent the same procedure and missed 9 months.

He spent more time on the DL for elbow and shoulder issues. After the 2068 season, the Mets let him go to Free Agency.

The Tigers were not dissuaded by Rixey's injurious history, and signed him to 4 year deal at $11M per season. This would be a pivotal move for the Tiger franchise. They became a dynasty and signed Rixey to two more four year deals.

While with the Tigers, Rixey anchored a rotation that pitched the Tigers to nine straight divisional titles (remember, no WC here). Rixey pitched the Tigers into 4 WS in that run, and pitched them to victory, twice.

Rixey won 166 games for the Tigers. He pitched 43 CGs and 18 shutouts for them, also. All of these are franchise records.

In 2072 he had, perhaps, his best season, as he won his first WS with the Tigers. He was 22-7 with an OOTP ERA of 2.29 (npa ERA+ 190). He struck out 191 men in 259 IP and walked 59. Rixey's strength was keeping the ball in the park. He gave up only 15 HR in those 259 IP.

In 2074 he went 18-5, OOTP ERA 3.21 (npa ERA+ 134), fanning 201 batters in 238 2/3 IP. He gave up 10 HRs.

Rixey is the first player from either of these teams to reach the HOF. He will not be the last, as dynasties are not built by just one player.

8 times in his career Rixey won 17, or more, games. Only 4 times in his career did he lose 10, or more.

For his career, Rixey won 215 games (t-33rd, John H Murphy) while dropping 114. His win% of .6535 places him one spot ahead of Sandy Koufax for 12th All-time.

He struck out 2396 men in 3113 2/3 IP (52nd) while walking 702. He surrendered 230 homers for a rate of 1 HR for each 13.5 IP.

Rixey threw 56 CGs (t-20th, Britt Burns), 21 of which were shutouts (4th, one more than Charlie J Ferguson and Rube Waddell).

Rixey won a GG and appeared on 4 All-Star teams. He enters the HOF at the age of 45.

Gorilla Composite: 3.1 (2.2)

---------------------------------------

Though he was a software induction, Miguel Cabrera breaks the string of First Ballot inductees.

Cabrera was the top pick of the 2060 draft and went to the Blue Jays.

A 42 HR, 112 RBI rookie season whilst batting .307 is a dran fine start, but it wasn't good enough for ROY honors.

Miggy's finest season came in 2068 as a member of the White Sox organization. He led the league with a career high 157 RBI while also posting career highs in hits (218), doubles (33), HR (53, batting average (.351), and OBP (.411). His slg% of .655 gave him a npa OPS+ of 171.

Cabrera is yet another player to be entered as a third baseman, a position much more highly represented here than IRL.

Cabrera gets in with a solid career that is boosted by the fact that he did play the bulk of his games at 3B. He gets in for his career totals, yet none of his totals put him on a leader board.

Cabrera had 2234 hits, 363 doubles, 430 HR, 1302 RBI and 1162 euns. He slashed 301/370/528.

He does show up in the 100th position on the games played list for having appeared in 2096.

Cabrera appeared in 3 post seasons, 1 WS, but did not win a title. He retired in 2077.

A 5 time All Star, Cabrera enters the HOF at the age of 45.

Black Ink: 4
Gray Ink: 85

Miguel Cabrerra enters his second HOF.
Eppa Rixey enters his first HOF.

Eppa Rixey is the 45th RL HOF here, of 149 entrants.

Notable players joining the league in 2088 include: Cap Anson, Frank Thomas, Nomar Garciaparra, Vada Pinson, Kelly Gruber, Torii Humter, Heorge Cutshaw and Bruce Bochy.

Class of 2089: Fielder

The 149th player in this HOF was Miguel Cabrera. The 150th is Miggy's RL teamie, Prince Fielder. That's pretty freakin cool.

Fielder was selected by the Angels with the 10th pick in the 2062 draft.

Fielder was a horse, throughout his career. He played in 20 season and played at least 100 games in each. He played at least 150 games 11 times. THAT is the kind of guy you can build your team around. Several did.

For his career, Fielder posted top tier HOF totals by slugging 753 HR (10th, between Joe Adcock and Frank Robinson) on 2722 hits (t-30th, Tony Perez). He ripped 423 doubles and drew 1240 walks (18th). He also reached base 237 times via the HBP.

Fielder posted a career slash line of 301/397/602 (*/53rd/39th, between Jose Canseco and Willie Stargell).

He collected 2008 career RBI (8th, between Mike Schmidt and Orlando Cepeda) and scored 1766 runs (13th, between Ron Santo and Harmon Killebrew).

In 2070, Fielder hit .322, 39 HR, 104 RBI as he and Harmon Killebrew led the Washington Nationals to the WS crown. There will be more than couple more players from this team in the HOF.

In 2077 he spent a year as a Marlin, and won a WS with them. He is the first player from this team to enter the HOF. There may be others, be Fielder will be the only hitter.

In 2081 he spent 1 year as a Rockie, and got his third WS title. Fielder is the only player from this team in the HOF, and it may remain that way until the end of time (which is in something like 20 years).

In the 5 year stretch between 2065 and 2069, Fielder hit 50 HR each season. He would top the 50 mark, again, in 2074 with a career high 64 HR and a career high 164 RBI.

An 8 time All Star, Fielder won 3 HR titles. He enters the HOF at the age of 45 in his first year of eligibility.

Black Ink: 20
Gray Ink: 213
HOFm: 277.5
HOFs: 67

Gorilla Composite: 5.4

----------------------------------------------

Prince Fielder enters his first OOTP HOF.

These players of note have joined the player pool in 2089: Carney Lansford, Stan Lopata, Maury Wills, Ray Durham, Carl Crawford, Steve O'Neill, Dmitri Young, Mark McLemore, Frank Delahanty and Joe Girardi.

Chart @ 150

With Fielder becoming the 150th entrant, I thought posting the chart of GC would be interesting.

What we see here, different from previous leagues, is a lack of scalloping downward. The plots are pretty consistent in their scatter pattern across time. There may be a few influences that result in this happening, but I think the biggest one is that we are about 15-20 entrants behind history. With fewer entrants that means fewer low scores. Without those lower scores creating distance in the chart, and establishing new floors, we have seen a consistent floor since the start of the HOF. We even see a narrowing of the numbers as we approach the 150th plot, however this may simply be randomness. We saw the same thing approaching plot 100, and then things scattered out back to a more usual distribution.

Our ratio of pitches to hitters in the HOF is right on target. There are 45 pitchers inducted. With 150 entrants we would have expected 46.

ADD: At 150 entrants, we would expect to have 10 active RL players in the HOF. With Prince Fielder's induction, there are 12.

Class of 2090 Veterans Committee Selection: Blyleven

Bert "Be Home" Blyleven was selected by the Yankees with the 4th pick in the 2039 draft.

He enters the HOF at the age of 67, 26 years after his retirement.

No eligible player not already in the HOF has more wins(234, t-15th wth CC Sabathia) or strikeouts (4233, 14th, between Bob Feller and Britt Burns). No player not already entered has more IP (4104 1/3, 10th, one spot behind Sandy Koufax).

He also has more losses (228, 3rd, between Britt Burns and Early Wynn) and HRA (561, 3rd, between Charlie Ferguson and Steve Carlton) than any player not already in the HOF.

In the 2040's, the Yankees were a bad team most of the time with only 3 season of winning ball between 2040 through 2050, and only one season with more than 87 wins. From 2040 through 2049 Blyleven made at least 29 starts each season and at least 33 starts 9 times.

In 2050, his walking season he was traded to Seattle, a powerhouse. Blyleven wasted no time signing a 3 year extension with the M's.

In 2052, Blyleven supported ace Francisco Liriano and All Time Great Shoeless Joe Jackson in bringing a championship to the great NW.

Blyleven had a career OOTP ERA of 4.14. Not spectacular, but solidly below the league average for this environment. He threw 8 shutouts. His 54 CG rank him 25th, tied with Randy Johnson and Sandy Koufax.

Blyleven won a GG and appeared in 2 All Star Games.

Class of 2090 Writers Selections: Mayberry Sr, Gehrig

John Mayberry Sr was selected by the Reds with the 9th pick in the 2061 draft. The following April he was named the #1 prospect in baseball. He lived up to his billing.

He debuted as a 18 year-old in 2062 and wound up with 2062 career hits. That's pretty darn cool.

He clubbed 602 HR (also a cool total which is one more than Al Rosen and ranks him 36th) in his career and collected 1529 RBI (65th, one spot behind Pablo Sandoval) while scoring 1364 times (77th, between Steve Evans and Jose Canseco).

Mayberry drew 1194 walks (25th) which led to a Jamesian pleasing 296/407/600 career slash line (*/28th, one spot behind Gavvy Cravath/43rd, between Willie Stargell and Don Mincher). He ranks 31st on the career OPS list, one spot behind Frank Howard.

In 2066 he hit a career high and league leading 77 HR and 170 RBI while slashing 338/426/781 (npa OPS+ 215) to take MVP honors. His slg% would also stand as a career high, as would his 125 runs scored.

In his free agent season of 2071 he slashed 325/433/692 (npa OPS+ 199) with 59 HR, 131 RBI and 122 runs scored. He, along with HOFer Home Run Baker, led the Reds to a WS win.

The Reds did not come to terms with Mayberry. He didn't come to terms with anyone else, and sat for the 2072 season. During this era teams were very tight fisted. This has changed since the latest expansion.

a 7 time All Star, Mayberry enters the HOF in his first year of eligibility at the age of 45.

Black Ink: 20 (5)
Gray Ink: 125 (71)
HOFm: 175 (20)
HOFs: 53 (16)

Gorilla Composite: 3.8 (1.1)

----------------------------------

Lou Gehrig also, appropriately, enters on the First Ballot.

Gehrig was selected by the Diamondbacks with the 11th pick in the 2064 draft. Like Mayberry, he was named the number one prospect the following April. He, too, lived up to that billing.

Gehrig played with Arizona through the 2078 season, and was the centerpiece of what would by The Dynasty in the Desert.

During his tenure, the D-Backs won the division 5 times and took home 3 WS trophies.

In 2069, Gehrig posted career highs in hits (218), HR (64), RBI (163), R (157), and BB (117). His slash line of 361/466/769 and npa OPS+ of 226 were also all career highs. Gehrig won his his first of two MVPs this season. He also won his first WS with this squad which included HOFer Albert Belle.

This was the second straight season in which Gehrig collected 200 hits, 60 HRs, and a npa OPS+ over 200.

In 2073 he hit 45 HR and won his second WS. He is the only player from this team to be entered in the HOF. This season he scored 100 runs for the 8th consecutive year, and 40+ HR for the 7th consecutive year.

In 2075 he slashed 323/415/617 (npa OPS+ 180) with 45 HR and 135 RBI, to win his second MVP.

He followed up with a 29 HR 166 RBI 2076 season in which he won his 3rd WS. HOF Home Run Baker was also on this team.

Gehrig hit 20+ HR in 15 straight seasons. He had 100+ RBI in 11 straight seasons.

He left baseball in 2078, but came back with the 2081 Tigers and a respectable .281 with 24 HR at age 35.

He did not play again until 2084 when the Tigers gave him another crack. A .209 BA in 95 games showed that Father Time had won out, yet again, and Gehrig retired 2 HR short of 600.

589 HR (38th, between Al Rosen and Nate Colbert), 470 doubles (t-81st, Roberto Alomar) and 80 triples (17th) on 2598 hits (41st, one more than Sam Crawford, one slot behind Frank Howard) are the totals he compiled. He drove in 1714 (35th, two fewer than Bill Skowron, one spot ahead of Duke Snider) and scored 1672 times (18th, between George Brett and Willie Stargell). He slashed 309/403/598 for his career (*/39th/47th, one spot behind Hack Miller). He drew 1270 walks (17th, one spot behind Ron Santo).

A 9 time All Star, Gehrig won 5 Gold Gloves ( 4 at 1B, one in RF). He enters the HOF at the age of 45.

Black Ink: 30 (75)
Gray Ink: 235 (315)
HOFm: 237 (352)
HOFs: 64 (72)

Gorilla Composite: 5.8 (8.7)

--------------------------------

Bert Blyleven enters his first OOTP HOF.
Lou Gehrig and John Mayberry Sr enter their second OOTP HOF.

Blyleven and Gehrig are the 46th and 47th RL HOFers, here, of 153 inductions.

Notable players joining the league in 2090 include: Wes Parker, Chase Utley, Frank Tanana, Rafael Furcal and Darryl Kile.

Class of 2091: Hebner

Ahhhh...so good to see Mssr Hebner in a return to the HOF.

Richie Hebner was chosen by the Tigers with the 9th pick of the 2065 draft.

He broke in with a .303 BA, 12 HR, 62 RBI and 90 R in 2066.

In his sophomore season he won his first of two batting crowns with a .359 average and 40 HR.

In 2069 he had a career high 46 HR, a career high 142 RBI and a career high 131 runs scored, and took his first of two MVP awards.

In 2071 he batted .367 while again hitting 40 HR, 133 RBI and scoring 111 times. He hit a career high 45 doubles and posted a career high 1.128 OPS (npa OPS+ 204) to win his second MVP awards.

In 2072, Hebner played in his Free Agent season and again put to gether a solid season with 34 HR, 177 RBI and 104 R. With Eppa Rixey as the ace of the rotation, Hebner provided punch to the Tigers WS Championship team.

He left for KC and won a pennant with them, but came up short in the WS.

Imitating life, he signed as a Free Agent with the Cubs. He signed a seven year pact and finished his career in Wrigley. Of course, there were no more post seasons for Richie.

For his career he collected 2464 hits (68th, one less than Vin Campbell and four more than Fred McGriff), 447 HR and 1479 RBI (73rd, between Albert Belle and Home Run Baker).

He had 452 doubles (98th, 3 ahead of Benny Kauff), scored 1454 runs (57th, three behind Harry Lumley) and walked 913 times.

Black Ink: 25
Gray Ink: 97
HOFm: 176.5
HOFs: 66

Gorilla Composite: 4.1

--------------------------------

Hebner enters his second OOTP HOF.

Notable players joining the league in 2091 include: Keith Hernandez, Hack Wilson, Corey Hart, Kevin Maas, Wally Pipp, Damaso Garcia and Clete Boyer.

306/386/542 was his career slash line.

A 7 time All Star, Hebner enters the HOF on the First Ballot at the age of 44.

Class of 2092: Ryan, Collins

2 more First Ballot entries. I am getting A LOT of First Ballot entrants. Part of running these leagues out is to find improvements. I didn't put anything into the design to replicate First Ballot entries at a rate similar to RL. I have tossed about the idea of changing things to accommodate this outcome, but all ideas messed up something else. I like how the the entrants have achieved entry. I don't want to alter that. I came up with a way of working the system and maintaining the current process, but making a First Ballot Entry more special. I will not change anything for this run, but the next one will be different.

--------------------------------------------

Nolan Ryan was selected with the 14th pick of the 2061 draft by the Angels...that's pretty cool.

In this environment, Ryan only had 10 complete games. He only had one shut out. That shutout, however, was a no-hitter. That is very cool.

Ryan pitched for bad teams for the vast majority of his career. Pitching through the year of 2086, Ryan appeared in only one post season.

In spite of this poor support, he compiled a record of 246-192 (11th on the win list, two more than Percy Coleman). His career OOTP ERA was a better than average 4.01.

Ryan is known for strikeouts. He struck them out just fine, here. He led the league in Ks 5 times, fanning 300 7 times en route to 5614 in his career (3rd, between Walter and Randy Johnson).

He also walked a lot of hitters. He led the league in walks 7 times. His 2105 free passes are the most in league history.

Ryan never won more than 16 games in a season. He had a LOT of NDs. He made 652 career starts (3rd, one fewer than Walter Johnson, 2 more than Jim St Vrain) and threw 3981 innings (11th, one spot behind Bert Blyleven).

He won double digits 14 times. He lost double digits only 9 times.

A 3 time All Star, Ryan enters the HOF at the age of 44 on his first ballot.

Black Ink: 37 (84)
Gray Ink: 136 (254)
HOFm: 144 (256)
HOFs: 42 (55)

Gorilla Composite: 3.3 (6.0)

------------------------------------------------

Eddie Collins Sr was the top pick of the 2057 draft. he went to the Cubs (no shock they had a top pick...shocking that they used it well).

Along with HOFers Joe Adcock and Don Mincher, Collins brought a WS title to the North Side. 3 HOFers should be enough to get a title, but not always, for the Cubs. Collins batted .384 and scored 135 runs and had 79 stolen bases as he took first of 2 batting titles, his second of 7 SB titles, and his first of 2 MVPs.

Collins enters the HOF as the league's career hits leader with 3793. He also enters the HOF as the league's career SB leader with 993.

He is also the career leader in games (2998), AB (11195), runs (2223), singles (2919), and CS (286).

Collins hit .300 in each of his first 19 seasons. In his 20th he batted .298.

In 2068, now a Detroit Tiger, Collins had his best season, and one of the best in league history.

He hit a still standing league record .427 with a still standing league record OBP of .514. His 194 singles on 253 hits are also league marks still standing.

He scored a career high 140 runs and walked a career high 100 times. His slugging % of .588 gave him a npa OPS+ of 187 for this MVP season.

Collins hit .400 in three seasons, but his 2068 season is the only one in which he had a qualifying number of PA.

Collins hit an occasional bomb, 171. He hit 625 doubles (7th, 2 fewer than Hal Chase) and 78 triples (t-19th, Dan Brouthers). He drew 1662 walks (3rd, between Mickey Mantle and Eddie Yost) and was plunked 99 times. That contributed to a career slash line of 339/426/454 (6th, between Georfe Sisler and Johnny Mize/6th, one spot ahead of Stan Musial/*).

Collins had 1288 career RBI.

In 2072 he was teamed with Eppa Rixey and Richie Hebner on the Tiger's championship team.

In 2074 he and Rixey stamped the trophy, again. The Tigers won 9 straight divisions with Collins on board.

A 12 time All Star, ROY recipient, and winner of a Gold Glove, Collins enters the HOF at the age of 51 in his first year of eligibility.

Black Ink: 43 (19)
Gray Ink: 177 (271)
HOFm: 390 (250)
HOFs: 76 (72)

Gorilla Composite: 6.9 (5.6)

-------------------------------------------

Eddie Collins has entered all three OOTP HOF.
Nolan Ryan enters his first OOTP HOF.

Ryan and Collins are the 48th and 49th RL HOFers to be inducted here.

Notable players joining the league in 2092 include: Ted Simmons, James Burke, Willie Horton, Mickey Rivers, Hank Thompson and Johnny Hopp.

Class of 2093: None

I was going to post these thoughts when I had a hitter fill out a top 10 list, but with no entries this year, now is a fine time.

The posted completed top 10 lists point to how good the system is working, I believe.

The HOF is represented by players who had longevity and "shooting star" types. The IP list is indicative of longevity, exclusively. Certainly any player that pitches more innings than others in history pitched well enough to keep on pitching that long.

Strikeouts for a career points to both longevity and dominance of a PA. That these leaders have been filled out in the HOF is appropriate.

WAR and VORP is a bit hybridized as dominance and longevity come into play. That these lists are so deeply filled out by HOFers is the best indicator, imo, that the system is working very well.

---------------------------------

Notable players joining the league in 2093 include: Noodles Hahn, Marquis Grissom, Tommy Davis, Kid Nichols, Vinnie Castilla, Greg Vaughn, Omar Moreno, Red Ruffing, and Joe Niekro.

---------------------------------------------------

This particular HOF is underrepresented in comparison to RL. This is simply a function of randomness in the sytem. It does not mean that the players in this league were any worse, or any better, than their RL counterparts. This has resulted in a stronger per player HOF than IRL.

Class of 2094 Veterans Committee Selection: Clark

Duke Snider, Gavvy Cravath, Mickey Mantle, Jim Gentile, Frank Howard, Don Mincher, Ralph Kiner, Frank Robinson, and Fred McGriff. There are the most similar players, in descending order, to newest the newest HOFer, Jack Clark.

It is not surprising that Jack Clark enters this HOF. It is very surprising that it took the Vet Committee to do it.

If this HOF process were an automated feature of OOTP, and all you saw were the results each year, I am sure Clark's wait would have caused a "This needs to be fixed!" pot in the forum.

The fact that Clark did have to wait so long is the result of an incredibly huge long shot on multiple parlays. The stars simply misaligned for him, until now.

It is also notable that Clark is the first player to enter who has all 9 of his most similar players already entered in the HOF.

-----------------------------------------

Jack Clark was the top pick in the 2046 draft. He was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays.

He broke in with a .303 average, 40 HR, and 108 RBI in his rookie season. This was good enough to get him the ROY nod.

Clark battled through multiple injuries here, as he did IRL, but his rate numbers were consistently excellent. In 9 of his first 11 seasons he had an OPS above 1.000. His lowest OPS+ in his first 11 seasons was a 147. He had a npa OPS+ above 200 three times.

In 2051, injuries limited him to 121 games, but he still captured the MVP with a slash line of 343/425/697 (npa OPS+ 182). He hit 43 HR and collected 116 RBI and scored 111 runs.

He led the Rays, along with HOFers Nate Colbert, Kent Hrbek, John Romano and Joe Rudi, to a WS win.

8 times he hit 40, or more HR (leading the league with 51 in 2055, one of two seasons in which he broke 50). He has 8 seasons with 100+ RBI.

For his career, Clark carried an amazing slash line of 303/407/623 (*/28th, one spot ahead of Benny Kauff/21st, one slot ahead of Albert Belle and Dutch Zwilling).

Clark ranks 19th on the career OPS list.

He had 2262 career hits, of which 659 were HR (22nd, one fewer than Mike Piazza and Jose Canseco and one slot ahead of Gavvy Cravath).

He drove in 1651 runs (47th, one spot behind Ken Griffey Jr) and scored 1543 (33rd, one fewer than Nap Lajoie and one spot ahead of Vic Saier). He drew 1310 walks (16th).

A 7 time All Star, Jack Clark (finally) enters the HOF at the age of 65.

Black Ink: 16 (9)
Gray Ink: 131 (87)
HOFm: 185.5 (28)
HOFs: 67 (35)

Gorilla Composite: 4.1 (1.8)

-----------------------------------------

Jack Clark enters his first OOTP HOF.

Notable players joining the league in 2094 include: Joe DiMaggio, Carl Furillo, Steve Yerkes, John Denny, Andy Benes, UL Washington, and Reggie Cleveland.

Class of 2095 Veterans Committee Selection: Agee

Tommie Agee was the 11th player selected in the 2051 draft. He was chosen by the Astros.

As an 18 year-old he broke in with a .318 average and 23 HR in 99 games.

Agee played through the 2072 season and collected 2339 hits (97th, two fewer than Al Rosen) with 483 HR (t-85th, Jim Ray Hart), for his career. He scored 1412 runs (67th) and drove in 1358 runs while stealing 229 stolen bases. He had a career slash line 289/353/530.

Agee battled injuries throughout his career, playing in 2170 games (86th) over his 21 year big league career.

In 2057 he appeared in 81 games and slashed 360/417/613 (npa OPS+ 173). He was healthy for the post season and knocked 3 HR in 10 games as he, and HOFer Kent Hrbek, led the Astros to WS victory.

Agee was a 6 time All Star who won 4 CF Gold Gloves. He enters the HOF at the age of 61.

Gray Ink: 23

Class of 2095 Writers Selection: Mays

Tommie Agee was a fine CFer. Heck, 4 Gold Gloves is really good. The writera were in no way responding to the Vet Committee inducting a CFer. The writers were going to vote in Willie Mays on his first ballot, no matter what the VC did.

--------------------------------

Willie Mays was selected by the Nationals with the 6th pick of the 2064 draft. 5 teams fired their scouts shortly thereafter.

Willie Mays is in the upper echelon of players to ever play IRL, and to ever play in this league. He is part of any argument for best player ever, in both.

He had a nice rookie season with 20 HR and 103 RBI. A .268 batting average was fine, but not ROY stuff.

Over the next 16 seasons he would bat at least .300, have an OBP of at least .368, and never have a slg% that was not above .600. Coincidentally (?) he would appear in 16 All Star games.

Willie Mays played in 25 big league seasons, retiring after the 2089 campaign.

He posted a career slash line that rivals any other: 325/392/650 (34th, between Al Oliver and Joe Rudi/t-89th, Kevin Mitchell and Reggie Jackson/10th, one spot behind Kevin Mitchell).

Mays ranks 14th on the career OPS list, placing between Kevin Mitchell and Barry Bonds.

He collected 3377 base hits (3rd, between Shoeless Joe Jackson and Hank Aaron), 880 of which were HR (4th, between Hank Greenberg and Harmon Killebrew). He hit a cool looking 555 doubles (26th, one fewer than Bill White and one more than Hamk Aaron) and 97 triples (t-35d, George Brett). He tallied 2297 RBI ( 2nd, trailing leader Hank Aaron and ahead of Hank Greenberg) and crossed the plate, himself, 2139 times (3rd, bewteen Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron). He drew 1121 walks (40th) and swiped 216 bases, to boot.

Speaking of "boot", he did that rarely, as his 5 CF Gold Gloves attest.

11 times he hit 40 HR in a season.
5 times he hit 50 HR in a season.
Twice he hit 60 HR.

10 times he had over 100 RBI in a season. 9 of those times he had at least 125. In each of the 9 seasons in which he had 125 RBI, he scored at least 100 runs.

8 times he had a WAR over 10.0 for a season. He enters the HOF as the career leader in WAR.

Mays won 3 MVP awards. It's hard to pin down his best year, but 67 HR, 158 RBI, and 145 runs scored with a slash of 355/419/792 (npa OPS+ 217) in 2069 is definitely in the top three.

This came on the heels of a 2068 season in which he slashed 353/420/694 with 47 HR and led the Nats to a WS win. He is the first player from this team to enter the HOF.

By 2070 the Nats had added Prince Fielder and a 40 year-old Harmon Killebrew, and won another WS. Mays launched 64 HR in the regular season.

Now a Philadelphia Phillie, in 2083 a 37 year-old mays played in only 80 regular season games, but still hit 31 HR. He had, perhaps, the greates post season ever leading the Phillies to the crown as he smacked 11 HR in 11 games while slashing 438/481/1125....holy moly. He is the first player from this team to enter the HOF.

At the age of 40, Mays won his 4th WS, this time as an Angel. He is the first player from this team to enter the HOF.

Mays enters the HOF as the career leader in total bases with 6766.

This HOF has reached the point of universal harmony as, for the third time, Willie, Mickey, and The Duke are all enshrined.

Black Ink: 65 (57)
Gray Ink: 247 (337)
HOFm: 446.5 (376)
HOFs: 88 (76)

Gorilla Composite: 8.9 (8.4)

------------------------------

Tommie Agee enters his 2nd OOTP HOF.
Willie Mays has entered all three OOTP HOF.

As the 159th entrant, here, Mays is the 50th RL HOFer to be inducted.

Notable players joining the league in 2095 include: Tex Erwin, Mack Jones, Davey Lopes, Cesar Tovar, Alan Benes, Cole Hamels, Billy Wagner, Dennis Martinez, Tim Teufel, and Old Hoss Radbourn.

Class of 2096: Murray, Kaline, Score

This is a very interesting class. It begins with the very interesting induction of Red "No, I'm Not Eddie" Murray.

Can a player get into the HOF based on one year, alone? Using this model, it is possible, as long as the player had 10 years of ML service. Murray did not get in solely on one season, but without one season, he wouldn't be in.

Drafted 12th overall in the 2063 draft, Red appropriately went to, yep, the Reds.

A .307 average with 23 HR and 101 runs scored earned him the the 2064 Rookie of the Year.

He showed superstar potential the following season by batting .458 in 21 games. The question was debated amongst the alternative baseball world as to whether this was a display of talent level, or just a small sample size performance output.

In 2066 he silenced doubters by batting .348 with 36 HR and 101 RBI in 135 games.

In 2067 he played in 150 games for the first time. As can be seen in the single season hit leader chart in the post above, Murray lead the league with a career high 246 hits. 61 of those hits were HR, a career high. He also had a league leading 149 RBI, a career high.

Murray also led the league with a .416 average, which gave him the Triple Crown and one of the greatest seasons in league history. ! .477 OBP and a .796 slg% gave him a npa OPS+ of 224. Yeah, he won the MVP. He also swiped a nice btw total of 58 bases.

Murray would only play in 150 games twice more in his career. 2066 was the only season that he hit above 36 HR.

10 years later he was suffering one injury after another. He tried to continue playing, but a torn ab cost him 4 months in 2078, and he called it quits with a career slash line of 307/363/493.

Murray had 1669 career hits which included 219 HR. Murray had 440 SB which ranks him 24th All-Time.

Twice an All Star, Murray enters the HOF at the age of 52 as a CFer.

Black Ink: 21 (4)
Gray Ink: 81 (57)
HOFm: 100.5 (7)
HOFs: 43 (11)

Gorilla Composite: 2.9 (0.8)

--------------------------------------

Al Kaline had no season as singularly spectacular as Red Murray's Triple Crown campaign, but he had some really good seasons. He also fought injuries throughout his career. He only played in 150 games twice in his career. However, he was able to be productive into his 43rd year and enters as a first ballot selection based largely on his career output.

He broke into the league in 2067 by batting .314 in 74 games for the Washington Nationals, who had selected him with the 6th overall pick in the 2066 draft.

In 2068 he had a career high 225 hits and 55 HR in 146 games. He won the league batting title with a .386 average and posted a npa OPS+ of 206 with an OBP of .431 and a slg% of .747. He and fellow HOF team mate Willie Mays led the Nats to a WS title. Yeah, not a bad OF with a 23 year-old Kaline and a 22 year-old Mays.

In 2070 Mays and Kaline hoisted the trophy for the Nats, again, joined by Prince Fielder and Harmon Killebrew.

In 2079, now an Angel, Kaline won his 3rd WS.

In 2081, Kaline now played for the Rockies, and reunited with Prince Fielder, he again won a WS.

In 65 ost season games Kaline slashed 329/408/561.

Kaline bounced around and found himself back in Colorado in 2088. He batted .286 with 22 HR in 139 games. He thought he could still play, but others did not. He retired in 2090 having not played since 2088.

Kaline collected 2763 career hits (29th). 499 of those were doubles (58th, three fewer than Ed Konetchy) and 467 were HR (94th). He is credited with 1622 RBI (55th) and 1471 runs scored (53rd, between Sam Crawford and Home Run Baker). He drew 957 walks and posted a career slash line of 318/388/546, placing 59th on the career BA list.

A five time All Star, Kaline won 4 GGs as a corner OFer. He enters the HOF at the age of 51 years and 51 days.

Black Ink: 7 (12)
Gray Ink: 103 (228)
HOFm: 155.5 (160)
HOFs: 65 (58)

Gorilla Composite: 3.3 (4.2)

-------------------------------------------

Herb Score is a cool entry. Things didn't fall in his favor for him being a RL HOFer, though he certainly had the ability. Score was off my radar (as was Murray) for entry, having not been previously screened.

He didn't have just one specatcular season, like Myrray. He had three. And it is largely on those three seasons of dominance that he gains entry.

Herb score was the 6th player chosen in the 2069 draft, going to the Royals. He was named the number 1 propsect going into the 2070 season.

He lived up to that billing by taking ROY honors as he struck out 350 men in 235 1/3 IP while posting a 19-4 record. He had an OOTP ERA of 2.75 for a npa ERA+ of 154.

In 2071 he won the Cy Young Award by winning 18 games bs 6 losses and posting an OOTP ERA of 2.07 (npa ERA+ 203) while striking out 387 men in 225 2/3 IP.

He won his second CYA the following season, which was his best. 18-2, 1.57 (npa ERA+ 278!!) with a career best 389 K in only 218 1/3 IP.

He struck out 368 men in 2073 to top 300 in each of his first 4 seasons.

For his career he won 186 games (69th, 2 fewer than Ben Tincup and Lou Galvin) vs 137 losses and an OOTP ERA of 3.56. He struck out 3494 batters(36th, one slot behind Johnny Vander Meer) in 2888 2/3 IP for a career K/9 rate of 10.886 which also places him 36th on that list (one spot behind Pedro Martinez).

Score last pitched in the ML in 2087. He appeared on 5 All Star teams. He had a 3-0 post season record, but never won a championship.

Black Ink: 35 (13)
Gray Ink: 135.5 (53)
HOFm: 124.4 (25)
HOFs: 35 (16)

Gorilla Composite: 3.0 (1.0)

---------------------------------------

Red Murray enters his 2nd OOTP HOF.
Al Kaline and Herb Score are entering their first OOTP HOF.

Notable players joining the league in 2096 include: Jorge Orta, Barry Larkin, Bake McBride, Robin Ventura, Todd Helton, Lee Smith and Khalil Green.

Al Kaline is the 51st RL HOFer, of 162 inducted, to enter this HOF.

How has Charlie Geggus performed in your replays? This dude, who played only one year in real life has been dominant as a relief pitcher in my league. I mainly play with "use of closers" on rarely, but have played a handful of seasons with that setting on often, Geggus is sitting at 475 career saves. His career ERA is just above 2 and he could very well reach 2000 k's as a relief pitcher. God, I love this game.
