Historical Game Questions

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forums. Had a question about historical games. I want my 2001 Historical game to be as real as possible.

Now games that are this far back when I am making the settings do I want to add minor league systems into the game or is it just going to be filled with fictional players and just leave it out and have a reserve roster?

Just want peoples opinions.

Also is there no free agency in historical games when first starting?

So I guess underlying questions over the major question is how do I make a historical game as real as possible starting with a team and taking it the direction I want?

Much depends on the direction you want, of course.

The game will load with everyone who played ball in that year, so anyone who spent the entire 2001 season in the minors will not load.

That said, for as real an experience as possible you probably want minors. Reserve rosters are nice for say...seasonal replays, or if you want to have a nice simple game - I love them - but for realism you need the minors and all the rules that go with it (40 man roster, waiver wire, etc.)

You can set minors with fictional players that can advance, fictional players that can't be promoted to the Majors, or 'ghost' players so that you can only see and work with those who actually made the Majors that year.

An alternative is to find the Spritze/Gambo db. It's a mod. I don't know that much about it, but it does load some minor leaguers for you.

There is free agency in your game from day 1. There are no free agents - everyone's assigned to a team, but as players are released or contracts aren't renewed they will become available.

They way i do my 1999 MLB is I create all the missing ML coaches/GM's and Owners. It's tedious and take time but I want it right for the 1st season. As far as adding minor leagues, add them one year at a time. I have yet to see a 1st season where you will need anything beyond AAA. Ther's just not enough players to do every level in 2001. You can use ghost players but the problem with that is is that the AI controlled teams will release players and have 10 people at the lowest level. I have seen a full roster at AAA 5 players at AA 7 at S A, 25 at A & R.
For my last redo of my 1999 league I added a level every 2 seasons. When my game crashed in 2012 I had every level as accurate as I could make it.
