An owner goal I'd like to see

I would love, one of these opening days, to click on the season expectations email from the owner and read, "we need to do a complete rebuild. I want you to tank this season ". Talk about no pressure!

I'm kind of surprised there isn't a "we're rebuilding right now, just do your best" owner goal.

It's always stupid to me when you get an owner who says he expects you to make the playoffs in the up-coming year and the up-coming year is 1950. PLAYOFFS! PLAYOFFS! There was no such thing as playoffs until 1969 unless two teams happened to tie for first. It's stuff like this that has caused me to just disable the owner goal feature.

I think the accompanying owner goal could be something like "Have five prospects ranked among the top 100 prospects" or "Have a minor league system ranking in the top 10 in baseball."

There should be owner goals for the Mets.

"Fake it and get meaningful games in September."
"Trade for an over the hill former All-Star."
"Punt our best prospect for crap."
"Run a con on our fanbase."

The Pirates and Orioles have been doing this for years.

"Ensure one of your draftees decides football is his real love." (CHECK!)

"Have your IRL manager date a supermodel." (CHECK is pending...)

That's already in game, the owner says play as close to .500 as possible

A perfect summary of the Mariners' strategy. I think that they set a record this year for most players used in a season.

Come to think of it, I have seen "don't suck completely" (or very similar wording) as an owner goal, which isn't too far off from this, that he still expects you to win some games, but I'd guess if that goal is given something like a 72-90 season would be seen as satisfactory.

When playing historical games back when there were only eight teams in each league an owner goal I'd like to see is finish in the 1st division instead of make the playoffs (of which there weren't any). In the old days teams that finished second, third, and fourth got a share of the World Series money. Pirates owner Barney Dreyfuss used to tell his team before the season began, "Just get me in the first division, boys. It's more money for all of us."

That would be awesome. Than they could also add on a seperate goal stemming from this to trade some of your older players who could be a star.

That's not like losing on purpose so you get the first overall draft choice, though.

Or... I just want a home attendance to be XYZ, because nothing could be worse than an owner going to see his team play and the stadium is empty.
