Photo Located Mike "Skinner" Hopkins 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates

I've located a photo of Mike Hopkins, who caught 1 game from the 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates. His photo was added to Findagrave.com late last year and I found it via ancestry.com

He was a lifelong friend of Honus Wagner and well-known amateur in Pittsburgh, so his photo is a nice find.

Photo Located George Newell St. Louis Brown Stockings

With Cusick's help, I was able to locate a photo of George W. Newell, a one gamer for the 1877 St. Louis Brown Stockings. He was pictured in the January 21, 1954 El Paso Times. He moved to El Paso after his playing career and was a high ranking Free Mason.

Woodcut Located Stephen Henry "Hank" Morrison 1887 Indianapolis Hoosiers

I located a nice woodcut of Hank Morrison, who played for Indianapolis in 1887. He was pictured in the May 6, 1888 Wheeling Sunday Register with a nice bio.

Ed Forsyth?

Since I am not one for photo ID's, perhaps soneone here would like to take a crack at locating Forsythe in this photo which was provided by a family member and is in his Hall of Fame Player File.

I'm going to label this a near-impossible task, but here goes my attempt:

Based on the ear and cheekbone that we can see from the confirmed image of Forsyth, I'm thinking it looks an awful lot like the guy sitting on the fence 2nd from the left. Am I confident in this ID? Absolutely not.

Bernie Carbo Pittsburgh Pirates 1980

Bernie Carbo is a familiar figure to baseball fans over a certain age, and especially to fans of the Reds and the Red Sox. He was a very good player with a lifetime OPS of I think .819. He had an outstanding rookie year in 1970 as an early member of the Cincinnati's Big Red Machine. Carbo was of course most famous for his great performance for the Sox in the 1975 World Series against the Reds, his old team. Good though he was, Bernie was often traded because he was a) a flake, and b) an alcoholic. The Sox dumped him finally because they were fed up both with his drinking and with his participation in the Buffalo Heads cabal against manager Don Zimmer. Bernie continued to play well for a couple of seasons after leaving Boston but he hit the wall with the Cardinals early in 1980, earning his release in May after a miserable 2-for-14 to start the year. After several months out of baseball Carbo got his final shot with the Pirates, joining the Stargell-Tanner Family on September 1st. Bernie made his brief and final comeback a happy memory by going 2 for 6 (.333). Carbo struggled with addiction for years after hanging up his spikes but he finally got sober and converted to Christianity. Now he is an evangelist with a special mission to his fellow addicts, and his story has become a happy one again. The only image of Bernie with Pittsburgh I've ever seen was a small and pretty poor newspaper shot which was posted here many moons ago. It turns out this photo was taken to accompany an AP story about Carbo which appeared in the papers on Sept 11th and 12th 1980. I have found some better versions thereof, and here they are.

Oh, yes, one more note. My favorite comic strip, Jaime Hernandez' "Locas" series in Love and Rockets, has a character named Bernie Carbo in it-- an international adventurer who is the former lover of wrestling queen Rena Titanon. I hope the real Bernie would approve.

Bill Fulton 1987

The same ebay seller fritschcardsauctions posted a pic of 1987 Yankee Bill Fulton who pitched in 3 games out of the pen. He did get 1 big league win in the 3rd and final game of his big league career on 9/28 at home vs the Red Sox. Fulton would pitch 2 more seasons as a pro finishing his 7 season career (all with the Yankees organization) with a 44-45 record and a 3.80 E.R.A

Freddie Velazquez 1969

Very grateful to Home Free for correcting the image wrongly attributed to Velazquez who is actually Charlie Vaughan. Here is his correct image for Velazquez in a Braves uniform.

Frank Schneiberg 1910
On June 8, 1910, Schneiberg made his sole appearance in a major league game, pitching in relief of Nap Rucker for the home team in Brooklyn in what became a 13-2 loss to Cincinnati. Schneiberg allowed five hits and walked four in just one inning, and was charged with eight runs (seven earned) to give him a career ERA of 63.00.

I had previously posted (#27988 on 5/28/16) an image of him in a Brooklyn sweater. Here he is, full length, in a Brooklyn uniform, in a photo taken during spring training in Hot Springs, Arkansas:

Mike Caldwell 1971

This is a picture that I could not find in my 1977 replay (I am about to start 1980)

Mike Caldwell of the 1977 Reds. Mike had been traded from the Giants to the Cardinals after the 1976 season but he was traded again to the Reds at the end of 1977 ST. He pitched in 14 games for the Reds out of their bullpen before being traded again in the middle of June to the Brewers

This is from ebay seller fritschcardsauctions
