I think there are a couple of 8's, I'll have to check when I get home.

Grover Hayes is an 8
Percy Jones is a 9

Zulu Kid starting next year as an 8

1919 - 1921 4 guys rated 10 or higher .. Wilde may be up at BW by then

Main Event

WW - Ted Lewis (14/10) (17-2-1) (CBU) scored a KO10 over Terry Martin (6/8) (21-5-1) (EBU) to win the IBO WW title.

Martin was controlling and winning the fight before light hitting Lewis KO'd him in the 10th. Martin was cut over the left eye in the 5th.

I had Martin ahead 87-85 at the time of the KO.

Regional Title

HW - Tom Heenan (4/3) (29-8-1) scored a SD12 over Frank Moran (10/15) (18-1-1) to retain the USBA HW title. Heenan has two more defenses before he has to vacate the title.

The fight was even through 6 when Heenan's experience took over. I had him winning 5 of the last 6 rounds to win 116-112. Two of the judges agreed, however one of them saw it 115-113 for Moran.

Other fights

HW - Jess Willard (UR) (7-0) (pre) beat the tar out of Ed Burke (UR) (3-2-1) in route to a TKO7. Willard put Burke down in the 2nd, 5th and 7th. I had it 59-53 at the stoppage.

WW - George Lavigne (8/6) (31-15-2) TKO10 Unk Russell (36/41) (14-5-1) (russell at pre)

WW - Matty Balwin (26/19) (16-5-1) UD10 Mike Sullivan (38/45) (21-20-4) (baldwin at pre, sullivan at post)

LW - Tim Collins (67/65) (14-2-2) DRAW10 Jacob Hyams (47/47) (13-4-2) (both at pre)

Ah, thanks so yeah it looks like Wilde doesn't have much to worry about during his stay at FLY. So it'll be nine years before guys near his level debut yeah I'm willing to bet that he'll be gone by then.

Chambers retains title

December 15, 1911

Main Event

LW - Arthur Chambers (CH) (23-3-1) had his hands full but scored a UD15 over Jack Keenan (13/15) (18-3-1) for his 6th defense of his WBA title.

Keenan controlled the early portion of the fight and it looked like he might cruise to an easy win. Chambers came on strong in rounds 6 through 10 and seemingly tied things up after 10. Chambers dominated round 11, I had it a 10-8 round as did all three judges. Keenan came back to take the 12th and 13th, but then was dropped in the 14th.

I had it 143-142, the official judges saw it 144-142/144-141/144-141.

Title Eliminator

LHW - Fred Russell (3/1) (20-8) didn't show up until the 6th round but when he did he stopped George Byers (4/5) (18-10-1). Russell will advance to the IBF title fight with the TKO6, he will face the winner of the McCoy-Butler fight in the championship.

Byers won the first 5 rounds easily but was dropped twice in the 6th and the ref stopped it with 10 seconds to go. I had it 50-45 at the stoppage.

Other Fights

HW - Martin Neary (club/60) (18-18-2) (post) scored a KO1 over Charles Horn (UR) (9-1-1) (pre) less than a minute into the fight. Neary moves back up to main with the win.

WW - Jack O'Keefe (65/40) (12-6-2) TKO9 Tom McAlpine (20/41) (17-5) (mcalpine at pre)

WW - Tommy West (14/13) (19-8-2) UD10 Jimmy Clabby (76/76) (8-11-8)

FW - Tommy White (49/35) (15-9-3) UD10 Kid Broad (45/60) (18-10-2)

December 16, 1911

Main Event

FW - Will Curley (10/CH) (22-9-3) scored an easy UD15 over Billy Whistler (CH/6) (16-16-7) to win the IBF FW title. Whistler has won a title twice in his career and lost it in his first defense both times.

Curley cut Whistler over the right eye in the 4th and it pretty much took all the fight out of the champ. Curley cruised from there on out, losing only the 14th round.

I had it 147-138, the official judges saw it 147-138/147-139/146-139.

Regional Title Fight

LH - Mike Boden (15/15) (15-2-5) (USBA) fought to a DRAW12 against Billy McColl (24/24) (16-13-1) (CBU) in the IBO title fight. Due to the draw the title will remain vacant until next December.

Boden was down in the 5th, but came on strong at the end winning the final 3 rounds to even things up. I had it 114-114 as did two of the judges, the third saw it 115-113.

Other fights

LW - Dave Holly (8/5) (20-8-8) scored an easy UD10 over Jem Carney (66/78) (24-18) (post). Carney has seen better days and he couldn't muster up one last performance in this one. Both eyes were swollen but he wasn't cut or knocked down. I had it 99-91, the official judges saw it 99-91/96-94/98-92.

LH - Irish Gorgas (UR) (12-0) (pre) scored a MD10 over John Miller (51/57) (10-9-2) (pre) to remain undefeated. Gorgas was down in the 4th and had to win the last two rounds to eek out this victory. I had it 96-95, the official judges saw it 96-95/95-95/97-94.

WW - Jimmy Fryer (UR) (14-0) (pre) hammered Billy Nalley (57/63) (9-12-1) (pre) in route to a KO5. Fryer dominated the fight winning every round. I had it 40-36 at the stoppage.

BW - Billy Rotchford (63/50) (15-15-2) UD10 Thomas Palmer (61/62) (21-23-3) (palmer at post)

Main Event

BW - Johnny Murphy (7/5) (20-4-2) (USBA) scored a KO5 over Charles Goldman (9/11) (18-5-1) (EBU) (pre) to win the IBO BW title.

Murphy controlled the fight from the outset. Goldman's right eye started to swell in the 3rd, he started to keep his hands low in the 4th, and was dropped for good in the 5th. I had it 40-36 at the stoppage.

Other Fights

LH - Harry Reeve (UR) (6-0) scored a KO2 over Luis Sotas (UR) (4-6) to remain unbeated. Reeve won the first round then KO'd Sotas in the second. I had it 10-9 at the stoppage.

LW - Knockout Brown (13/13) (16-0) dominated Whitey Lester (112/113) (9-10) in route to a TKO10 win to stay unbeaten. Brown barely lost a round and knocked down Lester in the 6th. Lester was cut and out of it on the ropes when the ref stopped it in the 10th. I had it 88-82 at the stoppage.

LH - Bob Fitzsimmons (27/23) (38-4) TKO4 Thomas Sayers (28/42) (14-4-3)

LW - Battling Nelson (22/14) (27-16-1) UD10 Danny Duane (19/26) (18-13-4)

BW - Harry Dally (35/26) (16-6-1) SD10 Charles Ledoux (19/22) (16-2) (Ledoux at pre, moved to prime)

Fight of the Year Candidate

December 23, 1911

Main Event

HW - Pearce Henry (6/4) (18-0) (CBU) (pre) survived disasterous 4 round stretch to win the IBO HW title by KO7 over Paul Samson-Korner (18/26) (18-3) (EBU) (pre).

Henry won the first round then things took a bad turn for him. Samson-K won the second, swelled up Henry's eye with a big 3rd round, won the 4th and then dropped Henry twice in the 5th scoring 44 points but the ref didn't stop it.

Samson-K was out of endurance after the 5th and Henry dropped him in the 6th then KO'd him in the 7th. I had it 57-54 Samson-K at the stoppage.

Next year I will probably keep track of great fights for a fight of the year award.

Regional Title

MW - Al McCoy (UR/3) (15-0) (USBA) (pre) scored an easy KO5 over George Brown (UR) (9-4) (pre) to win the IBO title. Brown is the only EBU fighter and the commissioner (me) decided to let him fight for the IBO title since the only other regional fighter (Jake Ahearn) was unavailable to fight.

McCoy dominated the first 4 rounds then KO'd Brown in the 5th. Brown was down twice in the 4th also. I had it 40-34 at the stoppage.

Other fights

LH - Eddie Palmer (UR) (7-0) (pre) stepped up to LHW and scored a UD8 over Cat Eye (UR) (4-4-3) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Eye was down in the 5th and 7th. I had it 78-72 as did two judges, the third one had it 77-73.

BW - Terry Edwards (UR) (12-0-2) (pre) scored a UD10 over Young Johnson (66/68) (9-13-1) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Edwards suffered a cut over his left eye in the third and his corner did a good job of keeping it under control the rest of the way. I had it 98-91, the judges had it 98-92/98-92/96-94.

LW - Willie Ritchie (20/16) (19-4-3) UD10 Yank Kenny (67/82) (11-8) (kenny at pre)

LW - Charley Neary (UR/43) (11-3-1) TKO6 Harry Pidgeon (85/87) (16-4-2) (both at pre)

Sounded like a great fight to see happen. Props to Henry the man earned that IBO title the hard way.

They keep it .. the IBO title fight will only be fought in December. If the IBO champ loses or vacates his regional title then the IBO title will be vacated also, and left vacant until the following December.

Main Event

MW Dan Creeden (22/CH) (31-15-1) took advantage of an out-of-shape Tommy Ryan (CH/10) (43-4-1) pummeling him in route to a KO12 to win the WBC MW title.

Ryan was never in this fight. His left eye started swelling in the first, he started carrying his hands low in the 4th, he was out of gas after 5, his right eye started swelling in the 6th, he was cut over the right eye in the 7th, and he was knocked down in the 7th, 8th and 12th.

I had it 108-99 after 11 rounds.

Regional title

Fly - Grover Hayes (1/1) (17-0-1) scored a UD12 over Dick Jenkins (UR) (13-1) to win the USBA FLY title.

Hayes broke open a close fight when Jenkins tired down the stretch, winning the final 4 rounds. There were no cuts or knockdowns. I had it 117-113 and the official judges had it 117-112/117-112/115-114.

Other fights

WW - George Cole (2/2) (17-10-4) go a big win with a UD12 over Young Peter Jackson (5/6) (26-8-2). Jackson opened up strong but then Cole took over in the middle rounds. Jackson was down in the 9th and suffered a cut lip in the 10th. I had it 114-113, the official judges had it 115-113/114-113/115-112.

BW - Lee Johnson (UR) (6-0-1) stopped fighting over the last 3 rounds and paid the price with a DRAW8 against Herr Dodge (UR) (4-5-1). Dodge stepped up to BW for this fight. Dodge won the last 3 rounds. I had it 76-76, as did all 3 judges.

BW - George Dixon (3/3) (33-10-1) UD10 Harry Ware (59/club) (12-17-3) (ware drops to club with the loss)

MW - Jimmy Handler (30/23) (14-14-3) UD10 Joe Costa (88/88) (11-10-5)

Main Event

WW - Jack Britton (1/CH) (24-3-6) scored a UD15 over Charley Hitte (4/4) (24-12) to win the new IBF WW title. Britton will vacate his USBA title.

It was a close fight with a lot of close rounds. No cuts but Hitte was down in the 10th. I had it 145-142, the official judges scored it 144-141/145-140/144-141.

Other fights

MW - Jack McCarron (UR) (12-0-1) eeked out a SD10 over Florie Barnet (UR) (10-3) to remain unbeaten. McCarron had to win the final two rounds to get the verdict. There were no cuts or knockdowns, both were in good shape yet a 3 rated fighter almost took out a 9 rated fighter. I had it 96-95 McCarron, official judges had it 95-96/96-94/96-95.

LH - Leo Houck (17/13) (26-12-2) UD10 Jack Welsh (28/42) (14-8-5)

FW - Benny Yanger (14/12) (21-3) UD10 Joe Reilly (55/61) (10-10-4) (Yanger at pre)

MW - Jim Griffin (73/64) (16-8-1) KO4 Jim Hall (67/76) (22-22-2) (Hall at post)

BW - Nunc Wallace (56/56) (15-8-2) DRAW10 John Conners (60/60) (9-8-5) (conners at pre)

Tommy Ryan's career looks pretty over now after this loss. Too bad, he's been my favourite LBA fighter.

Unless he randomly gets turned to post prime prior to 1912, he'll be back .. he was out of shape for this fight. However, he is 9-4 since starting off 34-0-1. He's gotta stick around long enough to step up and face Jack Dillon if Dillon gets to 33 straight wins.
