Closers in the 8th...

Has anyone noticed as the season is winding down that the AI starts bringing your closer in the 8th inning. All year my closer was coming in for the 9th, now all of a sudden they are bringing him in the 8th. Is this some kind of prep for the postseason?

Your closer may be set to appear in the 8th or later. Not sure whether time of year affects managerial preferences, but it might be why.

Unless you're GM only, have a manager that won't allow you to set lineups/pitching settings, and don't have the box checked to force that you can set lineups/pitching settings, you can make sure your closer only pitches the 9th, if that's what you want, by setting his usage to 9th inning only.

Personally, I like to have 8th+, so he can come in in a key spot in the 8th. But if you don't want him in before the 9th, it can be done.

He is set to 9th or later. Didn't happen til we officially made the playoffs.
