Best Strategy

What, in your opinion, is the best strategy to play PT?
(without buying PP with real money)

Saving all earned PP via

1a) achievements
1b) flipping (reserve/inactive roster) cards in auctions

and then buying

2a) standard packs (1k)
2b) gold packs (5k)
2c) diamond pack (15-20k)
2d) cards from auction house

I assume I reached the point where buying cards will only improve my team, if I buy really expensive ones.
But saving PP until I got e.g. 20k+ is kind of boring.
I now buy 20 regular packs and hope for that one lucky punch.

What is your recommendation?

It is a tough method, but flipping cards has provided me with my major source of income. With 20k, you can typically find some cards where you can bet between 1-2k profit, and as you get more PP, you can move towards flipping higher cards for more profit.

Another method could be investing in historical cards that do not have team missions yet. Once (or if) the mission gets released, odds are you’ll be able to flip the cards for more value than what you purchased them at. OR you can complete the missions and sell of the reward cards for a nice profit!

How do you find those "steals"?
Looking for auction endings when there are no simulations?
Are you looking at the values past 7-days?

Are you buying packs with your profit or cards to improve your actice roster?

If you scour the AH frequently, you begin to get a feel for the average prices of a card. Sometimes I use the differences between historical Sale price and past 7 days, but other times if I see what looks like a good value, I’ll buy it and try to resell it. Unfortunately, you sometimes have to sell a card for a loss (unless you’re super stubborn and continue to list it), but that’s just part of the trade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I don’t buy many packs. I purchased a few diamond packs and got lucky with Kevin Brown in one, but the other two were of negative value. I do try to complete the missions that are perceived to be + value and/or have packs attached as rewards!

yea saving PP and buying on the auction house is the best method. It is, as you say, more boring.

When collections launched, I started searching the AH for non-live silvers under 200PP and snatching them up. I spent up to 300 for Boston, NY, Dodgers. Those can sell for a huge mark up if collections need them later. Otherwise I buy packs and flip what I can't use. Except for some really high value cards, I only sell duplicates so I can keep building my collection for more options if/when tournaments start. Only buy regular packs, the premium packs are a waste of PP.
