I can only start the game in "SAFE MODE"
Has anyone else had this problem? I have the newest version and when I load the game it tells me "OOTP13 has stopped working". Then it crashes to desktop. The only way I can play the game is if I load it in safe mode. It seems to be working fine, but it's just kind of a nuisance. I didn't know if anyone else has seen this...

What is your firewall and anti-virus software? On other games where I have seen this (not-OOTP) it is related to the software blocking the service which checks the license from running. In safe mode this doesn't happen.
The solution is to grant an exception in the software allowing both the game and service to run. |

I also just noticed FaceGen is disabled and even when I enable it, it doesn't work. Is this because of safe mode? HELP!

I don't think your FaceGen problem is due to safe mode. For a while my computer was screwed up, and I was forced to play in safe mode, and everything worked fine. The only thing I had to do was disable sound, or else it would crash when I tried to manage a game.

It sounds like the same stupid simplistic advice all the time, and it is, but try uninstalling the game, completely deleting all game folders (save your game, obviously), doing some routine maintenance like defrag, and then a fresh reinstall. Sometimes this works wonders. Also, Scott's advice about the anti-virus is sound IMHO; go into that program, find the exceptions feature, and excuse OOTP folders (and the program itself?) from all scrutiny.
Because, no, this does not appear to be a common problem with OOTP 13.5.22 because if it were, you'd be seeing a heck of a lot more complaints here. Good luck. |

Good point on the registry, by the way. Ccleaner is what I use. They can be a pain in the neck with their frequent updates but it's a heck of a program. User beware, though! YMMV, and the registry is like the human brain to operate upon. Always back it up first! |
