Assuming you're in the NHL... there are 3 different types of rosters:
Your 23 man roster is the active players in the NHL (can also include people on the IR, and is subject to the NHL Salary Cap) Your 50 man roster is anyone who is under contract to your team. Players in the AHL or ECHL only count against your NHL cap if they have contracts over $925,000 (Google the Wade Redden Rule for a full explanation). It includes everyone on your 23 man roster. Your 90 man roster is also called the 'protected list' in the game. This includes everyone on your 50 man roster, plus any unsigned prospects whose rights you hold. The length of time you hold those rights varies based on where that person is playing and their age. This will mainly be draft picks who haven't signed, and any RFAs to whom you made a qualifying offer, but they chose instead to play in Europe. You can trade players rights, as well as trade for them. |
