My biggest random debut wish
The ability to pick a range of years to use as modifiers.
I think it would be great if when setting up a league we could select a range of years(example 1975-1984) in which OOTP would randomly select from for the upcoming season modifiers. I could start a league in 1978, select 1975-1984 as my range of years and then each new season OOTP would use a year in my selected range for the modifiers. Of course, we can do this now manually, but having OOTP do it would be a plus. |

Very interesting suggestion. I probably wouldn't use it as I'm very happy with 1984, but having different seasons for stats output every year would be kinda funky.

The supposed addition this year that we could select one frozen year, in my case 1976, really didn't work out, or I am I missing something again???

I don't touch it because it only seems to affect Hits, Doubles, Triples, Home Runs, Bases on Balls, Hit by Pitches, and Strikeouts. This is not good if you're playing in 1901 with it locked to 1984 stats output because the fielders will suck at catching the ball. 1901 FPct: .943, 1984 FPct: .978. Plus base stealers will get thrown out at a much higher rate than you want them to. A nice idea in theory, but in practice...it leaves a lot to be desired. However, we have the actionjackson method which works a treat for all stats, so there's really no need for it.

Your method is my method for the foreseeable future; most of my methods are either outright stolen or a variations of other people's good ideas. Someday I may come up with my own revelation but don't hold your breath!

Loved Gordie. I was in hospital having a double hernia when he died. I had the first one on the Monday and the second one on the Wednesday, so I was quite out of it on the Tuesday when he died. I didn't find out that he was dead until the Thursday of that week. Even though I knew it was coming, I was absolutely crushed. Saw the Hip six times in all, including one of the last shows in Toronto, and a show in 1988 (the night I turned 19 at midnight no less ) before they hit it big with "Up to Here". I believe three weeks to the day later, Halladay's plane went down. Both of them brought a lot of joy to my life, and I had been honouring Doc since then with my avatar, but I felt that I wasn't doing the same for Gord, so this will be my humble offering. I figure I'll rotate lyrics through once a week or so. I'll probably never run out because there are so many of them. The dude, and the band was/were prolific as hell, so it'll be easy and fun to do.

Great idea on the lyrics.
Know what you are talking about with hernias. Have had five different hernia surgeries, doubles twice... If and when I get my revelation it will be like Newton saying “I have seen further because I stood on the shoulders of giants.” Or something like that... |

Random Debuts I have run in the past I have "Locked" league settings to a year (the last one in OOTP17 being 1973).
Basically from what I've seen posted etc. my method is pretty much in the ActionJackson boat. But..I'm curious to one thing. What if we set the Totals to a certain year 1973 or 1984 or whatever and run the Auto-Calc in the integral season (or maybe even first few seasons) then nevermore. One thing I did with Auto-Calc was run it over n over right before opening day until it only fluctuated mildly then boom that was that for the season repeat next year and so it goes. But...back to my point RD do tend to disperses the talent pretty evenly but at one point in history the way the cards fells there were a above average amount of stellar power hitters in the league at one time. (I prefer smaller 16 team leagues which can obviously skew things a bit more than a league twice that size etc. ) As result I felt those guys were getting squeezed a bit in the numbers game of the engine. The same can be held true for say a power shortage so to speak where again to "get the numbers right" guys may get a bit of a boost. I felt a similar kinna thing when a 5 year period or so had an above average amount of dominate pitchers at their peak. Again the results were (IMO) none were as "outstanding" as they should have been because the engine made up for it. If the league batting average is gonna be .260 then the league is gotta hit around .260 no matter who is pitching etc. Which of course is why having an even dispersal of talent is essential none of which is new information to any of us But...my thought was "what if we set it" and yes it may take a few years to "level it out n solidify it" but from that ;point on "Leave It" What would happen? Would it drift too far and eventually create something far removed from your intended goal (if the talent disperses relatively equally which it seems to do quite well it shouldn't drift too far one way or the other). or Would it simply allow mild fluctuation and create those peaks n curves of having the oddity of a Ruth, Mantle. Mays, Aaron, Kingman, Foxx, Stargell etc. etc. etc. all present in the same 16 team league at the same time. That's something I've considered trying in the future but don't really want to get something setup and going then decide it was a Really Bad Idea |

Random year. If you want to use a random year between 2 years (like 1930-1980) why not just use a free random number generator on the web putting 1930 as the minimum number and 1980 as the maximum number? It is almost instantaneous and simple.
