By using my method, as I explained earlier. I edited a guy named Jake Koss to demonstrate - look at the bottom of the article; the name matches my editing including my nickname for him because it's part of the first name field.

Here, I ran the season a bit until Ed had a news article in his own right.

As somebody who is a fan of random nonsense, I approve of absurd nicknames like Ralph "The Murph" Wockenfuss.
I do wish that there could be coding that weights nicknames towards given names, like "Bill" if a name is William, or "The Murph" if a name is Murphy, or "Tiny" if a player is below 5-10 feet or over 6-6, but I'd imagine the work doesn't outweigh the benefit. The random silliness also forces people to imagine what the player did to ever acquire the name in the first place. |

Nah. Nobody under 60 is going to remember Dudley Do-right.
Nah. Too grim and heavy-handed. But on the right track, perhaps. Something more subtle and witty: Genrikh "Star Wars" Dethwright.

Just had a hell of a Game 1 of my United Series. Wanted to show off the walk-off PH HR by my backup rookie catcher and that my ace pitched well but tired early. Two of my favorite nicknames in the league, too.

See how cool it is when 1) nicknames actually mean something to you, and 2) they show up regularly in the news? I should patent my method and charge Markus a royalty. I'd be much cheaper than MLB, for sure.

Deja Bru,
You have now caused me a massive waste of time. The random nicknames were a slight aggravation to me before, but now I can't look at them without thinking about how out of place they are. I am now in the middle of going through my entire minor leagues and erasing dumb nicknames, ie.- ones that have nothing to do with their names and are given to players that stink or will most likely stink. Thanks :P |

The quickest way I've found to edit people is to go to "Find all MLB players", click "show minor league players", and use a custom filter to search for all players who have a nickname beginning with 'a', then look at them one at a time. Then "b", etc.

The problem is, RP, now that you are irked by them, they will keep coming back and irking you all over again. As I have advocated, it's better to just turn off the official nicknames feature altogether and then use the First Name field for your own meaningful nicknames, using single quotes.
