Tony Taylor - Ortforshort
Ort:
Do you have an early Phillies years (1960-1962) Tony Taylor photo that you could make a customized card of? |

Tony Taylor
Here's one I made a while ago. I don't know where the pic came from, but, from the looks of it, I doubt it was Topps. I also included the actual 1962 Topps card of Taylor.

Living Players: Last ones born in the 1920s and first ones born in the '30s
Wikipedia's Oldest Living MLB Players List now lists 125 players. The youngest of these at #125 is Don Larsen (Yankees, Browns, Orioles) - he of the 1956 World Series Perfect Game Fame). Larsen was born on August 7, 1929.
since Larsen, the last person on the Wikipedia list was born in the third quarter of 1929, I was curious as to who the very last living players born in the '20s and the very first living players born in the '30s would turn out to be. I researched those factors on my own (No Help forthcoming from Wikipedia because at age 87 all of these players were "still too young" to qualify for Wikipedia's list. Here's what I found (although it is possible that I may have left someone out - It's as complete as I could make it, using old baseball encyclopedias and without the use of multiple search engines). Last Living Players born in the 1920s. Teams they are most associated with in parenthesis. Harding Peterson - OF - born: 10/17/1929 (Pirates). Ike Delock - P - born: 11/11/29 (Red Sox). Nino Escalera - OF - 12/1/1929 (Reds) - He and Chuck Harmon were the first black players to integrate the Cincinnati Reds in 1954. Carl Linhart - PH - born 12/14/29 (Tigers) - one of the few major leaguers born in the present-day Czech Republic.. *Ray Herbert - P - Born 12/15/1929 (Tigers, A's,White Sox, Phillies) - lost the 1952 season due to military service during the Korean War (MLB Career: 1950-1966, except 1952). Was 104-107 overall and won 20 games in his only all-star year (1962). Among living players Ray Herbert appears to be the LAST player born in the 1920s. First Living Players born in the 1930s. Joe Margoneri - P - born: 1/13/1930. (New York Giants). The FIRST living player born in the 1930s appears to be New York Giants' Pitcher, Joe Margoneri. He played just two years in the majors - the final two years the Giants were in New York, 1956 & 1957. Others include: Pete Daley - INF/OF born 1/14/30 (Red Sox). Chuck Churn - P - (Pirates, LA Dodgers) - As a Dodger in 1959 Churn would get the win over the Pirates in the only game his former teammate, Elroy (Roy) Face would lose that season when he had his near-perfect 18-1 year. Roger Craig - P - born: 2/17/30 (Brooklyn Dodgers, Mets, Phillies). Later was a successful manager posting a 738-737 record in a 10 year big leagues managerial career Ron Negray - P) - born: 2/26/30 (Brooklyn & LA Dodgers, Phillies). *Del Crandall - C - born: 3/5/30 (Boston & Milwaukee Braves). Tom Acker - P - born; 3/7/30 (Cubs). *Vern Law - P - born: 3/12/30 (Pirates). *Frank Lary - P - born 4/10/30 (Tigers). *Johnny Antonelli - P - ** born: 4/12/1930. (Boston Braves, New York & San Francisco Giants). * Denotes player was selected to play in at least one major leagues all-star game. Photos are requested of these living old-timers. Mark Bradley 1981
There are lots of bad and so-so images of Mark Bradley with the Mets. There was a good one on Baseball Birthdays some time ago. And I think, so far, the Vault has only spit out a few Dodgers images. Here's one of Met Mark currently for sale on eBay from seller sheaball. There are certain limitations to a mediocre scan, but I've done my best to clean it up. (As usual, I'll give you the before and after.)

Unknown Red -- Tom Tischinski
Quote:
In trying to solve this, I had been looking at Johnny Edwards, who also bore a resemblance, but the right ear just didn't seem to match up. The head-on shot of Tischinski in the Twins uniform is fuzzy, but it seems to compare reasonably and the ear in the other Twins shot also seems to be a match. New Interleague Hits King: Ichiro
Ichiro Suzuki got his 365th Interleague play Hit this
week to set a new record for Interleague Hits, surpassing Derek Jeter. This is the 21st season of Regular Season Interleague play (1997-2017). Ichiro's baseball cards are all from Topps Heritage: Above Left: T.H. 2017 (produced in the 1968 Topps style); Above Right: T.H. 2003 (produced in the 1954 Topps style); Below: T.H. 2005 (produced in the 1956 Topps style). Fraud Alert
I don't know how many of you know about this, please forgive me if I'm covering ground that has already been covered. I wanted everyone to be aware of an Ebay seller who is selling custom cards. Not such a crime BUT..he's selling the work of others, including many I've seen here on OOTP boards. His ID is mr.0ddball420 and he's selling cards I KNOW were created by others. I have a special file where I save customs I like because..well, they're cool! Even maybe printing them for your OWN binder is OK. But selling them AND as your creations w/o crediting the creative person? NOT COOL. Thanks....

I've seen that folks are selling pics posted here on eBay It's one thing to try to sell them. The question Is, is anybody buying those things? What are they selling them for? By the time they've printed them on cardboard stock and paid postage, what are they netting from these things? I don't personally see much of a market for these pictures. People usually want to buy a picture of some ballplayer to get an autograph on it. Once the player is dead, and most of these guys are, it's hard to get them to autograph a picture. As far as making cards, I would think that the pro's like Topps would have market researched the efficacy of churning out sets of these old players and I don't see them doing it, so I would doubt that anybody trying to convert these old pics into cards to sell wouldn't be buying property in Malibu anytime soon. What do you guys think? |

>> It's Other People's work
>> He has over 3000 feedback which could mean over 5000 sales. >> it is OTHER people's work, not his. >> He's stealing their work. >> there ought to be a way to shut this guy down. Valid points, though repetitive, save for your conclusion jump (the '5000' figure). Pick your battles. I don't believe this is something you should be so upset over. |
