I plan on manually moving players age down to 22 if fully developed, 20 is half, 18 if non-developed for players that enter at an age over 23 (ichiro, jose contreras..etc)

Have my random debut league all set, with four major leagues that will begin play in 1900, that will be associated and involve all four league champions. Four independant class B minor leagues, each with an affiliation to one of the majors, no minor league playoffs.

League associations and the random debut feature are going to breath new life into historical replays for me. Can't wait for Friday!!

So, I am sitting with the #4 overall pick...

I watch the Baltimore Canaries take 23 year LF Ted Williams at #1. Ross Barnes at #2. SS Cecil Travis at #3...

And who is there, at the top of the pitching pool?

A 24 year lefty from Brooklyn.

I made Sandy Koufax my first pick.

30 starts. 26 complete games. 3 shutouts. 373 strikeouts. He clinches Game 4 of the World Series with a 11 k shutout of the St. Louis Stockings.

This is neat.
As i told before, this feature made me get this version....have not been so excited for a game to come out for years!!!
And Raidergoo, thanks a lot for your stories....you're helping me in arriving to friday.....

Quick question to those in the know: do the draft pools scale up or down in number of players available depending on the number of teams in the league, or in the association? And additionally, how are the ratios among positions/pitchers handled? For instance, in 1900 the draft class is miniscule by comparison with 1901, and that class is dwarfed by 1914-1915. If doing something like Lee is proposing, how do the draft classes allow for the different league terrains?

I'm sure you can do this at the database level, but when you create a new league with this feature in-game, it would be cool to be able to set an import age range so you can only import players who were no older than 25 into the inaugural draft. Or for that matter, just change every player's age to 23.

Also, if you start a league and delete older players before the inaugural draft, they will not show up in later seasons, right? So if you've got Andre Dawson at 35, you'll never see him at 24?

Koufax should've went second even if Ross and Cecil were great players there's no way Koufax should've been passed over (for tomorrow) like that.

It's a double-edged sword. My team dominated when Sandy was healthy. When he wasn't...well, it was not pretty. Sadly, missed a bunch of starts.

The first three picks in this test league went to the HoF (I do mine manually, it's a judgment call).

I do think if you start in 1871 that it is a good idea to take a SP with your first pick.

Yeah, that pretty well matched real life in the early sixties. I remember it along with the heartbreak in 1962.

So what happens with Ruth in the random db, does he stay a SP his whole career?

I had Ruth come into the league in 1991, as a SP. In 1994, he moved to the outfield. He was a two-time 20-game winner, and pitched very well. But Ruth, in the outfield, in the 90s? Holy crap.

I wish I had his stats still. Alas, I do not.

I've always thought if Ruth had started his career in the outfield as a 20 year old in 1920 he would have hit 1000 home runs without steroids. Nobody would ever break his record. He was the greatest player of all time.

Just keep in mind that, since this is a new addition to the game, it may still take some time to perfect it. This feature has been tested with keen interest by the beta team, and I think many people will be thrilled with the random debuts as they're already handled. But there's nothing like a full release to truly uncover all of the strengths and weaknesses.

I think we're all going to find some fun and interesting things as the feature gets used on a mass scale. I think there will be variation in what people want in their results, so it could take some further tweaking and improvements to make sure that most people are happy.

But it should be fun to see how it unfolds.

I'm not sure how to make this work. I have Use Random rookies from all eras checked, and automatically import historical rookies unchecked. When it came time to fill up my draft pool this time I got fictional players. Do both of those options have to be checked in order to get random rookies from all eras? I'm sort've confused.

Yes, you need to check the "automatically import historical rookies" or the game will create fictional players.

I ran a sim overnight, and Ruth showed up in 1986. It should be known that players, when in different eras, may put up stats that appear wacky (try Deion Sanders in the dead ball era, for instance). But I believe this is entirely appropriate for Ruth in the steroid era.
