Baines Rule

Does Munson get into the baseball Hall of Fame?

I think he should.

What does Baines have to do with Munson?

Munson had a short career in which he was fantastic nearly every season (over 3 RWAR every season but his last)

Baines had a long career in which he was almost never fantastic (2 total seasons over 3 RWAR).

Munson deserves a very strong look, and it has nothing to do with Baines.

That is what I mean. If Baines is in, where is Thurman Munson...?

This is his last chance and with Jeter going in, it would be perfect for two Yankee captains to go in.

I don't think we should use Harold Baines as any type of baseline.

Nor should Yankee capitans be.

Munson should be considered on his own merits (and yes, the merits include comparisons to previously inducted players).

Steve Garvey and Albert Belle are both better candidates than Thurman Munson. Better than Harold Baines too when you get right down to it.

i think you guys know where i stand on Baines. i like Munson. i would have no problem with him going in. Garvey i am on the fence on. Would have to research him more. Hard no on Belle.

Ted Simmons just got in on 'The Baines Rule'

The Baines Rule: (1) Play a long time. (2) Be an average hitter and fielder. (3) see 1.

The Baines rule is to get a committee of your buddies that you played with to vote for you if you can only get 6% of the regular ballot

No. No. That's the Haines Rule.
