"Base Fielding Rating on"

In the game setup, what does this really mean?

What are the ramifications of choosing one option over another?

Which do you use and why?

The quick answer is that if it's based on career, than a player would, as a rookie, have a rating for a position that he may have played at the end of his career IRL. In other words, he will have ratings for every position he ever played, and those ratings will be based on how well he played in each position over the course of his career.

There were also changes made in OOTP10 that take effect only when you choose the "career" option. These changes were intended to improve how field ratings were calculated, but I don't remember the details. Someone else may come along with more knowledge of that.

As far as what is the best choice, I don't have a strong opinion to offer. My preference as been against the "career" choice, but it's just a soft preference.
