Well my original Fictional Story got corrupted so this is Take II. I will quickly, (based on my standard of quick) will try to get 5 seasons in before we get really immersed in the Dynasty. At this point I will just give updates throughout the season's until we get some history in the league.

Montreal is solid defensively as we hold the opposition to limited shots and the goalies make the saves when needed. We are in the middle of the pack for goals scored, primarily due to success on the PP. We certainly could improve at shot blocking.

Nestor, Wilf 26 11 7 0 1 2.14 0.918
Janku, Marcel 30 1 0 1 0 2.33 0.911

Goaltending has been strong, Nestor is young and will be a solid goalie for us for many years. Nestor is signed for the remainder of the season and will likely be a priority for us to resign. Janku is a capable back-up.

Harper is our top defenseman and wears an "A", he is signed for 3 more seasons after this year. Young Lambright is a free agent at the end of this season. Engstrom is signed for 3 more seasons as well. Montreal will demote RD Kevin Steinberg to the AHL. Montreal will promote RD Harry Magnusson. The 32 year old had 4 goals and 13 points in 14 AHL games.

36 year old Kaminsky is wearing the "C" and is signed for 2 more seasons after this year. Another signing priority this year will be Callander. Herkel will be a free agent at the end of this season. Berry wears an "A" and is signed for 2 more seasons after this year. Both Blaney and Trump are free agents at the end of this season. Montreal will send down Randall Schmidt and Juan Soto to the AHL and will promote RW Andrey Kozlov, the 30 year old has 6 goals and 12 points in 12 AHL games. Montreal will also promote C Brian Alexander, the 25 year old has 6 goals and 11 points in 16 AHL games.

Overall I am pleased with the start for this team. It appears we should compete for a playoff spot throughout this season so we should be active at the trade deadline on February 15th.

Goaltending has been very good with Wilf Nestor amoungst the leaders in many categories. Hopefully we can resign him and keep him a Canadien for a long time. Marcel Janku is a capable back up and has certainly done the job in back to back situations.

Both Anton Herkel and Riley Callander have expiring contracts, although Callander is a RFA at the end of the season. Both are key resignings if we can manage the CAP. Quincy Kaminsky missed a few games with some minor ailments, but at age 36 how much more can we expect. Montreal will demote RW Elias Gustavsson and C Brian Alexander to the AHL. Montreal will promote C Dylan MacDougall, he has 12 goals and 39 points in 30 AHL games. Montreal will also promote C Josh Tomlinson, he has 13 goals and 32 points with a +17 rating in 35 AHL games.

Montreal certainly has slipped a little in the past 20 games. The were 1st in the Atlantic on December 20th, and now are in 3rd. An area I would like us to improve for the final 22 games is our shot blocking. We will be looking for a shot blocker at the deadline.

The Canadiens made some progress in the final 22 games with goals against, shot blocking, hits and PK%. Despite the improvements, they were unable to gain home ice in the 1st round of the playoffs. As well, we could not complete a trade for a shot blocker at the deadline, the prices were too steep.

Wilf Nestor played a lot of hockey this season, he most likely would be considered the team MVP this year. Marcel Janku played the 2nd game of back to backs and had pretty good numbers.

The Canadiens have dropped off offensively. In fact if not from the outstanding goaltending of Wilf Nestor we would be in worse shape then we are. During the free agency season, we signed a few undrafted young free agents to bolster our depth, time to see what they can do.

Janku, Marcel 31 0 5 0 0 4.93 0.865

Wilf Nestor has been our MVP once again. Our back up had definitely struggled. So we are going to send him to the AHL and promote G Stefan Mertel. Mertel is 28 years old and has 2 wins with a 2.72 GAA and .895 save % in 4 AHL games.

Not a alot of offense from this group, but that is spread right across the team. We knew we were going to have some big changes at the forward positions, but defense was pretty stable from last season. Time to install some young. RD Harry Magnusson gets demoted to the AHL. RD Tomas Badura gets promoted to Montreal. The 19 year old has 3 goals and 10 points in 17 AHL games.

There has been alot of changes to the forwards, already due to minor injuries we have promoted Robert Hendriksson and Cory Brueggeman. Hendriksson had 7 goals and 17 points in 12 AHL games before coming up. Brueggeman had 8 goals and 20 points in 16 AHL games. Montreal is going to demote RW Aleksi Hynynen and Juan Soto to the AHL. We will promote 19 year old Ben Archer, he has 9 goals and 17 points in 14 AHL games. We will also promote 19 year old Jakob Axelsson, he has 3 goals and 9 points in 17 AHL games.

The Canadiens played 3 games above .500 the last 20 games, so in a nut shell they were better. But with 42 games left that equates to about 49 more points and 88 points at the end of the season will not secure a playoff spot. The next 20 games leading us up to the deadline will determine if we are buyers, stand-patters or sellers.

Wilf Nestor has seen his share of rubber this season. His GAA and save % took a hit, but he still is winning games. Our back-ups have yet to win a game.

Going to send down Tomas Badura to the AHL. Lets see what LD Tyler Duclos can do. Our 2nd round, 54th overall pick last year just signed with Montreal and played 6 games in the AHL, the 20 year old had 1 goal and 4 points with 25 PIMs.

Montreal has already used 20 forwards this season. Much was to give some of the youth a chance to show their stuff. The growing pains are the lackluster special teams and defensive play. But the might as well find out what we got. Who knows, maybe they can heat up in the next 20 games. Montreal has LW Ralph Blaney out for 1-2 months with a fractured cheekbone. Montreal also has C Ben Archer out for 1-2 weeks with a tender elbow.

Montreal did not have a good last 20 games, They got only 11 out of a possible 40 points. To make the playoffs I am not sure even 22-0 for 94 points would get them into the playoffs, so we could consider our selves sellers at the deadline.

The remainder of this season is survival for these goalies as we are giving up a ton of shots. Wilf Nestor is hanging in there despite the terrible amount of shots on goal.

Montreal brought Oscar Breuer back up from the AHL and sent down Kevin Steinberg. Breuer despite his low ice time was much more effective.

We have gone from a very veteran forward core to a very young forward group. Montreal has 5 players at 20 years of age or younger up front. All 5 look like they could be effective players in the near future with Kramar, Archer and Hendriksson already showing signs of being regulars.
