custom league question

am i able to create a fictional league with teams and a league setup i create, but with real mlb players? when i click on "new custom game" the second option is "create fictional league" and it clearly states in the description "players are real, historical, or entirely fictional...." i go step by step and no option or anything allowing me to use real players comes up and i get stuck with the fictional players. any help on the matter is appreciated.

I don't think there is a way to just create a fictional league and tell the game to populate it with real names but depending on exactly what you want to do it can be accomplished with a little work.

If you want to use current players then you can start a MLB game and the change team cities and names, move divisions around or delete teams/divisions in the edit screen.

If you want to use the random debut function you can select a starting year to get the baseline set-up of teams and divisions then change team cities/names.

One caveat if you start with 30 teams for example and delete 5 or 6 those players are going in the free agent pool and might cause the initial league to be talent heavy

I'd do it this way (assuming your fictional league is 30 teams).

1) Create new MLB game.
2) Add your league to the same universe.
3) Delete all players on the fictional league teams.
4) Release all MLB players.
5) Delete MLB.
6) Hold inaugural draft for your fictional league.

And there you go.

Oliver pretty much has one way of doing it...but I just start a historical with the settings I want and then change the structure. Obviously you can't do that during initial game setup, but you can immediately after before anything happens.
