Storylines...off or on?
I know in OOTP13 I always kept the storylines option off because they seemed overpowered and in general didn't work well.
How are the storylines in 14? I really like the idea of storylines and want to use them but of course I do not want them messing up my league like they did in 13. Any opinions? |

Well, in general, the results were toned down quite a bit. The frequency of events occurring is higher but that is because a lot more storylines are running. When it comes to to fan interest and market size stories, those are more rare and have been reduced greatly in effect. Hope that helps.

It's really a matter of opinion, so you're probably best to turn them on and see if you like what's happening.
Personally, I have them off because I think a few of them are silly. That's not a knock on the folks who worked hard to create them. Just simply my opinion. I hadn't seen any that severely affected market size or fan interest (and subsequently team budgets) like we were seeing in OOTP13, though. |

I like them, definitely seeing more in v14, which is good.
Well, except for my starting 2B who went down 3 months due to some accident he had. |

In 13 I would have rated them 5 or 6 on a 10 scale.
In 14 they get an 8. Huge improvement imo. I didn't use them in 13, always have them on now. I think there is still room for them to grow, but like all major features in the game, they started crawling first. I have no doubt they'll be even better in 15. |

My major concern was how they were impacting market size, fan interest, etc as they did in v13. Sounds like things have been fixed for the better and the option is heading in the right direction!

I have them off by choice. Probably says more about me than the storylines.

I think as RchW & Big17 said, it really is a person to person choice. My hope with this release was to tone down the results but have the storylines be more prevalent. In fact, they may be too frequent and that is something that can always be adjusted as well. That choice was made due to the idea that many people play out just a season or two during an entire version of OOTP. Meanwhile other people sim out a season a day or so so the balance between crazy number of storylines and none at all is tenuous.
Obviously there are some stories in there that are pretty kooky but as people that write those stories usually bring up, some pretty crazy stuff happens in real life as well. My goal is to continue adding stories of all types and eventually lobby Andreas pretty hard to have 2 different storyline files. One would be for the more hardcore group that wants to see win streak, playoff streak, and perhaps other predictable stories and the other file would include those along with more unpredictable storylines. Now, that separation can already be done manually (just by editing the xml file) but ideally I would like it to be automated upon storyline.xml creation.

I just went through an entire season in 13 without seeing any, and, yes, it was turned on. When do they show up?

So glad these work better now. Was upset I had to keep them off the entire year I spent with 13. Glad to see all of the additions as well. This is a feature that can get better and more diverse each version.

Josh Hamilton leaving his team for an unknown amount of time happened in mine. I think it is the only one I have seen.

If I set storylines to be on when I made the league, is there a way to turn them off after the league has already started?
Can't seem to find a spot to do that |

Yeah, it's still in league setup, to the best of my knowledge. I'll run across the screen in a bit and post it up for you. Also, I've elected to use them this season, if just to pay homage to cody who's done such an incredible job of fine-tuning them best he's been able. Figure I can always delete a news article if I need to, or modify its wording and create my own version if it doesn't suit me or the league.

I would like to see a historical-friendly file.....I usually have them off, because I am playing historical fictional leagues most of the time and a lot of the storylines just don't fit in with the times.....

I have them on. But I don't mind either way.
I did have this one about 20 minutes ago; Nick Hundley out for 3 months after he injured his arm, arm wrestling in a local bar. |

I just had a weird pair of storylines.
First, Orioles CF Kyle Hudson was hit in the head by a ball from a pitching machine, and was taken to a hospital for an expected concussion. Couple days later, come to find out he has a.....calf injury? Huh? |

I had Kyuji Fujikawa have to retire because he went to jail for 5 years due to defrauding investors in some sort of Ponzi scheme. This was 4 games or so into his MLB career.
I thought it was hilarious. Well done. |
