This is correct, and OOTP's sequencing is incorrect.
Doesn't matter when the "next" reliever is brought in, the winning pitcher should be the guy who gets the 3rd out of the inning, regardless of when he's replaced. Technically speaking, if Pitcher Adams gets the 3rd out of the 6th inning and is due to bat 1st in the 7th and is pinch hit for, he's out of the game and replaced by who ever pinch hit for him in the lineup and the game. Now say Pinch Hitter Zachary gets on base...and he's slower than molasses going up a hill in January. You pinch run with Pitcher Brown who is the fastest guy on the bench and you don't want to burn through another hitter. Again, technically, a pitcher is now back in the game for the reliever who got the 3rd out to end the 6th inning. No matter how you slice it, Adams is still the pitcher of record, regardless of when the "pitching change" is made. |

Again. You can't change pitchers while you are at bat. Period. The replacement player would be a pinch hitter or pinch runner, NOT a pitcher. You could put another pitcher in his spot, but he'll be a PH or PR. That's that.
This has not been fixed as of the latest patch 20.5.47. Other games I play simply will not let you make this switch. One game has a box pop up to tell you exactly this. Another one just has the circle with a slash through it if you try to drag a new pitcher into the lineup. This should be a very easy fix. I just pulled the trick on Arrieta. While I was batting, I put Neshek in Arrieta's spot to be the next pitcher. Losing 5-3, my team rallied and took the lead 6-5. I held on to win the game 7-5. Neshek got the win when it should have been Arrieta. Neshek does not come into the game pitching the next inning with the lead and get the win. It doesn't work that way. |
