Should I be concerned?

I just renewed this guy's contract. He's 33, and age is certainly catching up with him, but he had a decent comeback season last year. The day after extending him for 2 more years, he announces he's flying to India to seek guidance from some guru, and something about his name isn't sitting right with me.

Oh dear lord! He's come back, and is apparently 'confused', saying things, like "baseball just doesn't seem that important anymore."

He's going to get lit up, like the fourth of July, I just know it. What's worse, is that he is a fan favorite, and a favorite (season goal) of my owner. I'm on the bubble with this team; if I have to cut him, I may get fired.

I love this kind of stuff. I had a first-round draft pick retire after his first pro season to play on the golf tour. OOTP is the only game I've ever played that has rare events that happen once and are not seen again, like, you know, rare events.

typographical error? hitemhard?

yeah, you should be worried a reasonable amount. if velo is any way a major part of his success, he's likely to drop like a rock the moment it recedes... plus any other potential dip like control or movement. they don't fare well often at that age. even if it's 60/40 or 70/30 good result, is that reasonable risk? depends on the alternatives too.

i rarely sign such a contract at that type of age, but 2 years isn't a major investment, and if the whole picture says it's the best option, then it's smart to go with it.

1b at 33? not so big of a deal and easy to replace at least in some larger portion, if not fully when compared to replacing a frontline SP.
