All Timers League Playoffs

I've simulated the regular season of this version of CW's All Timers League, and the league is now headed to the postseason (but not before two tie-breakers). I did three wildcards, and an NFL-esque playoff format: The wild card series is best-of-five (2a, 3h), and the rest of the series are best-of-seven (2h, 3a, 2h)

Here's the final standings, before the tiebreakers (playoff/tiebreaker teams in bold):

Pale Hose 96-66
Highlanders 94-68
Wolverines 91-71

Browns 72-90

AL West
White Sox 81-81
Royals 78-84
Twins 75-87
Oak A's 74-88
Rangers 73-89

Blue Jays 88-74
Indians 83-79
Orioles 83-79
Red Sox 82-80
Tigers 71-91
Grays 64-98

NL Classic
Alleghenys 94-68
Quakers 87-75
Gothams 87-75
Perfectos 85-77

Tiebreakers

AL Classic Tiebreaker (Philadelphia Athletics @ Chicago Pale Hose)

The A's just destroyed the Pale Hose in the 7th inning, earning the division title, as well as the bye and the #1 seed in the AL playoffs.
NL Wild Card Tiebreaker (New York Gothams @ Philadelphia Quakers)

For most of the game, Christy Mathewson looked like the hands-down favorite to be the player of the game. Through 7 innings, Mathewson had held the Quakers to just 1 hit, and looked prime to have a complete-game shutout. But then in the eighth inning, Matthewson got into some trouble:

The eighth inning was a sign of what was to come. The Giants scored an insurance run in the ninth inning, and then the Quakers came to bat in the ninth inning. The Quakers scored three runs that inning, sending themselves to the playoffs and sending the Gothams home wondering what the heck just happened:

So here's the seeding for the playoffs (byes in bold):

AL
1. Philadelphia Athletics: 97-66, 1st place in the AL Classic
2. New York Yankees: 93-69, 1st place in the AL East
3. Chicago White Sox, 81-81, 1st place in the AL West
4. Chicago Pale Hose, 96-67, 2nd place in the AL Classic
5. New York Highlanders, 94-68, 3rd place in the AL Classic
6. Birmingham Black Barons, 92-70, 2nd place in the AL East

NL
1. San Francisco Giants, 97-65, 1st place in the NL West
2. Pittsburgh Alleghenys, 94-68, 1st place in the NL Classic
3. Cincinnati Reds, 91-71, 1st place in the NL East
4. Atlanta Braves, 89-73, 2nd place in the NL East
5. Kansas City Monarchs, 89-73, 2nd place in the NL West
6. Philadelphia Quakers, 88-75, 2nd place in the NL Classic

I think the next post will be previews of the Wild Card Series (I haven't played through them yet.)

AL Wild Card Preview #1

So here we have it, our previews for the Wild Card series. Under "top batters" and "top pitchers", I list every player on that team who is in the top 7 in a stat in the leaderboards of the game in their league (for pitchers, starters and relievers are seperate, and for batters, fielding positions don't matter). Bolded stats are stats where he leads his league in that category.

New York Highlanders @ Chicago Pale Hose

New York Highlanders

Team Stats w/AL Rank (24 teams):
Runs Scored: 924, 1st
Batting AVG: .291, 1st
OBP: .362, 2nd
Home Runs: 135, 9th
Stolen Bases: 161, t-4th
Runs Against: 726, 6th
Starter ERA: 4.11, 6th
Bullpen ERA: 3.39, 4th
Defensive Eff. .707, 7th

Top Batters:
Babe Ruth (.344 BA, .455 OBP, .604 SLG, 1.059 OPS, .442 wOBA, 7.6 WAR, 30 HR, 99 RBI, 106 Runs Scored, 97 BB, .260 ISO)
Lou Gehrig (.337 BA, .405 OBP, .549 SLG, .954 OPS, .405 wOBA, 7.8 WAR, 209 Hits, 28 HR, 131 RBI, 127 Runs Scored, 70 XBH, 341 TB)
Charlie Keller (97 BB)

Top Pitchers:
Al Orth (38 Saves)
Jack Chesbro (31 Starts)
Lefty Gomez (243 IP)

Chicago Pale Hose:

Team Stats w/AL Rank (24 teams):
Runs Scored: 735, 15th
Batting AVG: .278, 6th
OBP: .339, 10th
Home Runs: 56, 22nd
Stolen Bases: 167, 3rd
Runs Against: 695, 4th
Starters ERA: 3.82, 2nd
Bullpen ERA: 4.48, 21st
Defensive Eff: .699, 14th

Top Batters:
Eddie Collins (47 SB)

Top Pitchers:
Ed Walsh (20 Wins, 0.19 HR/9, 3.69 FIP, 5.4 WAR)
Reb Russell (44 Saves)
Eddie Cicotte (5 Shutouts)
Red Faber (0.17 HR/9)
Doc White (0.21 HR/9, 3.73 FIP)

Series Preview from the Game:

The Highlanders had a pythagorean W-L of 99-63, second in the majors only to the Giants, who had a 100-62 expectancy. And as you can see, it wasn't by accident. The Highlanders have quite the big boppers in their lineup, namely Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. While their offense is their strength, it's not like the Highlanders can't pitch either. They have a good-enough rotation, and a closer in Al Orth who has blown 4 saves all year. Meanwhile, the pale Hose's main strength is their pitching, but as you could see in the division tiebreaker, it can meltdown when met with a good offense like the Philadelphia Athletics. In the end, I don't think the Pale Hose will be able to hold up against the Highlanders.
Prediction: Highlanders in 4

Starters ERA: 4.29, 15th
Bullpen ERA: 4.06, 11th
Defensive Eff: .704, 9th

Top Hitters:
Frank Thomas (.416 OBP, .386 wOBA, 5.9 WAR, 197 Hits, 296 TB)

Top Pitchers:
Tommy John (3.11 ERA, 246 IP)

Series Preview from the game:

The White Sox are a mediocre team which is only in the playoffs because they play in a truly terrible division. Although they historically did go 3-3 against the Black Barons, and Frank Thomas is ridiculous against them, I just don't see them getting it done against the Black Barons.

Prediction: Black Barons in 3

NL Wild Card Preview #1

I'll just post the team pages/previews in the game.
Prediction: Monarchs in 5
I think Satchel will win both of his starts, and the Monarchs will find a way to win another.

looking good. You enjoying this file? how do the different logos look? i want to do my own version using CW's tean names but with players coming in either as rookies or at the age they playeed their 1st year with teh club that they had the most impact on. Harold Baines would be 20 or so as a rookie in 1980 Shoeless Joe (who in this file is on Philly) would be 27 in 1915 with the Pale Hose vs all players being 26.

Give Captain Walrus the credit it is his file I just converted it and gave teams uniforms and real parks. Are you having any issues with the parks. The way CW had it setup he only had 1 park for all teams. I had to a add new park per team and i had issues getting the park to stay in place for the White Sox and the Cubs etc. it kept reverting to default.

Have to insert some parks manually but this is easy & quick(i have checked only one or two parks so no sufficient data).Logos & uniforms looking great!

To have the players coming in as rookies or at the age they played 1st time would be very interesting.

Looking forward to see how the playoffs will end.(Predicting Barons to win it).

Nice thread, thanks to BoSoxFan..
