What does everyone do before starting their MLB quickstarts?
Now that the first patch and roster update is out, I'm counting down the hours till I get back from work and fire up my Jays game.
Thinking of what I do every year before my quickstart and would like others' opinion 1) Input Salary cap and revenue sharing 2) Adjust market sizes per PSU's Colonel post 3) Update contracts and other small tweaks to players (bring Kyler Murray out of retirement 4) Adjust Minor League size limits and max service years 5) Adjust trade and talent frequencies (I will try with the default though this year) 6) Adjust player pool %'s, I like to have US players capped at 60%, with an increase of Cuban players to reflect future trends. 7) Add DH to NL 8) Add an additional roster slot, bringing it to 26 9) Get rid of Super 2 (call up Vlad Jr. without worrying about service time And just for me, when all of this is said and done, I like to erase all previous history. What else does everybody do? Last edited by jaguar8311; 03-27-2019 at 10:23 AM. |

I'm still on the fence on importing my current v19 league.
If I do start clean with v20, I would.. Make July 31st a hard trade deadline 26 man rosters with 8 relievers 28 player cap in Sept. DH added to NL 10 day DL changed to 15 day DL Trading set to hard Disable league evolution and openers/followers Keep the history this time (I deleted it my last MLB QS) Add custom award for most stolen bases (called the Lou Brock award) Last edited by MizzouRah; 03-27-2019 at 09:32 AM. |

The only things I do are change award names, and turn off foreign free agents.

-Contract teams
-Remove most minor league teams so there are only 3 levels and 1 team on each level. |

NL DH is a good idea. It took until 2040 for the computer Commish to install that rule change in my most recent league. I make trades more frequent and level at hard. I really like the evolution and in commish mode you can change rules back if you think they change something unneeded or you don't like one of the locations of an expansion team. Making one in Mexico City to start. |

Rather than delete all of the history, I delete all of the retired players. I then export the stats, clear history and then import the stats back. This way all of the leaderboards are just occupied by current players. Doing it this way does delete history (for instance all of the current players have no past awards and every team's past will show 0 championships). I like it so all of the records are attainable. It does suck having 0 hall of famers to start, but oh well.

I’ve thought about going through and deleting players who have been confirmed as using steroids/PEDs.

Interested to know how you do some of the things on your list:
1) Input Salary cap and revenue sharing 4) Adjust Minor League size limits and max service years |

Salary Cap, and for the revenue sharing, I increase ticket revenue splits to 50%, then instead of luxury tax I do 50% of income for revenue sharing. 4) You have to manually edit them for each league |

I strictly do challenge mode. So most settings are locked in and I don't need to think about it.
But I use real Milb roster size and limits https://www.milb.com/about/faqs-business#19 Technically A and A+ are 25 active and 10 reserve but we can't do that. I split difference and go 30 active for both. I only suggest doing this in full universe with international and Indy leagues. All these cut players will need places to play. If your just mlb you will have a billion free agents. Full universe these players might latch on to an I do league at 17/18 after being cut from rookie ball. Play there 2 years get signed to big international league then who knows you might see them ready for MLB at 23-25. It's really interesting. Same thing works in reverse for foreigners drafted in their league and cut. I also change aging to .75 and dev to 1.25. I also like randomness dev between 115-130. That's just for personal flavor. As I like to play a team opening day. Then maybe 5-12 seasons. And restart back to opening day with another team. If you don't change aging/dev/randomness it can get very stale in my play style. |

*wait for opening day roster patch
*turn scouting scale to 1-100, turn off all OVR-type ratings, scouting accuracy to normal *turn injuries up to "high--realistic modern day" *set aging speed modifiers to 0.950 *boost talent change randomness a wee bit (usually 105 or 110) *enable all face gens, then wait a little while to generate them *trade settings to "very hard" and "favor prospects" *lineups to SABR *screw around with the almanac settings so I only keep all records for MLB, ***, KBO, and Cuba...minimal records for MiLB levels *enable trading of drafted players next offseason, enable trading of injured players *boost slot bonus baseline to $2M or $2.5M *set inflation to 0-2% per year *enable all league evolution except for expansion, relocation, name changes, and schedule length changes *input accurate names for yearly awards *turn off international established FAs and FAs from indy leagues *ensure accurate stat modifiers for most recent season *edit all ballpark modifiers and fences/wall heights to be completely accurate *adjust market sizes and contention strategies *expand by 2 teams and realign to two leagues/4 total divisions/8 teams per division (based mostly on 1993 MLB divisional setup) *use the editor to remove all dead money for the expansion teams *outfit expansion teams with logos/uniforms/caps/ballparks/color scheme *use the editor to remove all of my team's automatically filled personnel *play MiLB league Tetris fitting in the expansion teams' affiliates where they should go *input custom schedule that can handle 32 teams, 4 divisions, interleague play *hire scouting director *set scouting and player development budgets *expansion draft *sign free agents, make trades *hire coaches *set lineups/rotations/ticket prices *play the dang game ...give or take Last edited by waittilnextyear; 03-28-2019 at 07:05 PM. |

You're not alone in this...
You are wise indeed!

How does one disable the opener/follower feature. I have not been able to find that yet! Thanks in advance. Elbows and eyebrows.
