I guess you'd have to disable minor league free agency you can do that for majors can you do it for minors?

If you disable minor league free agency, then they'd stay their forever....

Actually that's what I want because then they'd play out their careers there. The only problem is the wouldn't be subject to being "bought out" like in Indy leagues according to the other guy, but the idea is to keep them within the league and managing their contracts so that it reflects that situation.

Their options for leaving would therefore be:
Retirement
"Trade"- since you can't buy out unless someone knows a way of doing that
CEI

I may try this. I assume the teams will still cut players that are not worthy anyways while the others will develop.

The fringe minor league guys (early to mid 20's) who would come over from affiliated teams would already have met years needed for minor league FA so they would become FA's after every year.

Hypothetically a problem but it can be resolved or it could be fine.

For instance if I want my affiliates to hold players and make sure they have enough then Im unconcerned with the reserve roster.

If I want the bad players weeded out then I could just have a league with no reserve rosters which I believe is possible.

I don't get this. You can set the number of players on the reserve roster with a minimum of 15 right?

I don't know the exact number, but even if its somewhere around there that'd be fine. The rosters have to have people there anyways and it's not a perfect system. Plus substitutions and what not I'm not concerned with the leagues overcrowding...the point is in fact to keep them there.

If your main league has no reserve rosters (which it won't, in this situation), there is nowhere to set a reserve roster limit. Therefore, the limit will be unlimited for the unaffiliated teams.......

In the first season, their reserve rosters will be reasonable. After that, they will stuff 'em in there like sardines.....

The problem is simply the excess of players brought on by the need to feed new players in. Essentially even if I trap in players with the methods I've explained we're just pilling on and only few end up leaving.

The way around this, which may or may not be effective. Well actually there are a couple possible options.

1) limit roster size/reserve roster size to small number...but I've heard that they'll sign "invisible" players that fill up the roster that we can't necessarily see?

2) essentially delete the rosters in the league every 5 years or so creating new rosters and deleting excessive players

3) allowing all leagues (foreign and domestic) to "buy out" players. Obviously, as previously discussed "buy outs" aren't really buy outs but trades could replace that. After all it's not EXACTLY an independent league but a mimic of it.

4) have a feeder league which feeds in limited amounts of players...say 1 round per year. Effectively continuing the small rosters and potentially removing the issue of too many players/overcrowding
